'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Lambert Pleased With El Ahmadi

Paul Lambert was delighted to see Karim El Ahmadi strut his stuff on our opening day of training, and he believes he'll be a key player for us next season.

Speaking to the Official Site Lambert talked about El Ahmadi's strengths and also said he didn't believe he'd have any trouble settling in given his experiences in Holland:

'I think it's great he's in, he's a really good player. It's new for him, a new culture but I'm sure he will greasp it pretty quickly. I have absolutely no worries about him. The lads need a hand and Karim will give them that.'

Lambert adds that from his time at Feyenoord he'll be more than used to big crowds and the pressures that he'll face in this league.

Be interesting to see how he does adapt, he could well be that defensive midfielder we've been crying out for, and the bonus would be of course it would free up our creative players to strut their stuff and give us some entertainment!

Hope he does settle in quickly, he seems the type of experienced midfielder we've needed.

Lets be honest he's gonna have to as its such a pivotal position in every aspect regardless of what formation and whatever tactics we employ...So, no pressure Karim, crack on...!!!

He looks useful, but for a 27 year old he hasn't really played that many games. He has averaged 20 a season in all competitions over the last 10 years. Lambert seems to have an ability to rotate players sensibly and hopefully this skill will enable him to get the best out of Karim over the course of the season.

hes in the Stan role - simple as that. Its July 6 and hes already covered Stan and the Mutton position (w Lowton). If Guzan really is coming back then the Given position is covered too - for no money! (I did not rate Given from the start and in the Euros the blinkers came off for a lot of people....)... Im impressed.

Malacaxeta, you didnt rate Given from the start? We'd be playing Championship football next season if it wasn't for him!

Who's to say Guzan wouldn't have made those diving saves that given did though ? I think as an all round goalkeeper Guzan will be great given the chance Given is class though but I worry about his fitness, he has seemed to always have an issue with being fit

The problem with Given at the Euros was he wasnt fit but hes the type that wants to play so he said he was... He didn cover himself in glory like he usually does but with Richard Dunne in your backline anything can happen... Anyways Karim will be solid no doubt him and Makoun will probably be doing battle for that position...
