French Midfielder Linked + Brad Guzan Coming Home?

Sky Sports and The Sun are linking Villa with Rennes midfielder Yacine Brahimi.

The 22-year-old can play as a winger or midfield playmaker.

He is certainly looking to leave Rennes at least! He told RMC, a regular read in the Fear household: 'They do not count on me at Rennes. With the style of play there are times where I don't play - our relationship is broken now and I have reached the point of no return.'

The rumour is he will sign on a year long loan deal with a view to a permanent move next summer.

The Birmingham Mail say that Villa are set to re-sign Brad Guzan. The Independent, amongst others, also cover the story.

Our latest poll asks if you would re-sign Guzan.

Like both of these 'rumours'. Hope both true

With our new manager I wonder if Brad will be get picked over Shay on better form? We don't know what's in Shay's contract a but after spending so much time sitting on his arse at Man City he may have some clause built in? Who knows and time will tell.
Thomas Holte
Here here. But if guzan does come back I hope he gets a shot at starting 11. I like given but guzan was in fine form whilst shay was injured and thought it rude that he lost his spot just because given was well again.
Zarch
Surely players don't have an automatic pick clause... Do they???
Zarch
Guzan I like that rumour. I hear he is a fine keeper with great shot stopping ability? Anyone seen him play... oh yes er...
revdpete
I'd take Guzan back, for sure, but curious why he would want to. He can't have been told he'd be our new number 1 by default, and you'd imagine he'd be our number 2 unless Given is sold/has a mare.

Rate brad as a better keeper than shay,so over the moon! I don't think lambert would drop him the way Mcleish did, when he was playing so well!hope he starts as our number one

Big fan of Shay Given, but I like Guzan too, and it would be great to have him back on board to provide real cover and competition for the No 1 jersey because poor Shay looked to be struggling with injury at the Euros. Brahimi I know nothing about, but he could be worth a go, may be this years Cabaye??

Zarch, no mate, I've been assured by a few in the game, not just Villa, that there aren't clauses in contracts that if fit, you have to play a player, and I've been told it would be unworkable.
vitalfootballadmin
balls, sorry, that was meant to be from my The Fear login not my work one!
The Fear
Madirish, evidently Brahimi has been likened to Ben Arfa. Very slightly built, a lot of similarities to Ashley Young as well. IMO he would be an excellent addition fom my limited knowledge of him Only seen El Ahmadi on Youtube etc but he also looks exactly what is required. Aggressive, quick and uses the ball sensibly.

Anyone know what the deal is with Makoun?
olofthegreat
last I read he was joining team for pre-season and being given the same chance as all olof.
The Fear
Over the moon. Was sad that Brad Guzan was leaving after the commanding presence he had between the posts last year. I still remember him coming to pick the balls of Stoke strikers' heads after their long throws and corners. It was a breath of fresh air. Welcome back Guzan, may number 1 be urs.
Villalfred
Maybe Guzan watch the Euros and thought he had to be 1st choice? Also lets face it, for a keeper Shay is very injury prone which is the opposite to Big Brad who didnt give Little Brad a sniff for 3 seasons!
Chelt Villan
i am only happy with this deal IF he has either stayed on the same wages to be No 1 or took a cut to be No 2, i wouldnt like to think what lucrative contract MON threw his way. where does this leave shay and also interested to see beji seigrist in the olympics to see how far he is from being No 2. shay as good as he is, has his flaws that at this stage of his game you wont get rid of. interesting times ahead in the battle for jersey No 1.
