Scouting Overhaul + Culverhouse Incoming?

Mat Kendrick has an article at www.birminghammail.net saying that there is a shake up of the Scouting system in process.

Our head of scouting Paul Montgomery will be leaving along with Glenn Roeder (who I thought was head!) and another scout called Artur Numan.

Mat also says With pre-season training starting next Thursday, he would like to bring in a new scout and recruit Ian Culverhouse and Gary Karsa, who were his assistant and head of football operations respectively at Norwich.

Culverhouse`s contract ends tomorrow, so one would imagine he`ll then be free to join.

Full details of the departing scouts: www.birminghammail.net

Anyone else think that the scouting system we had in the Netherlands might have ended up becoming quite similar to that of Newcastle's?
darrannicholas
No, as Newcastle signed players last season from abroad whilst we signed crap from premiership clubs,I.e Hutton,
mickatkins21
About time the scouting system was sorted. Its been terrible for far too long now

Our scouting system abroad was shocking, Kinda annoyed Houllier didn't get to set up his own scouting team, Even having a position in the club to do so I thought would be really important with the kind of contacts he has and the knowledge he had as one of the top men in french football. Well even though I wouldn't really imagine Norwich's scouts to know anything about places abroad I would expect us to sign more talented players from the lower leagues, that is where they are probably most experienced at, So to say we are going to look abroad now would be the wrong suggestion, Even though I do think we need a world class scout for going just overseas.

Lambert obviously scouted well at Norwich while we often seemed to pay over the odds for average players. Villa need a complete shake up and I look forward to the changes.

This is definitely good news. Our network was very weak considering. Agree with Villa 4 Ever too. We need to add at least one scout with solid international connections, although perhaps Paul has his own little black book from his time in Germany.
Lee282
Agreed our scouting has seemd very poor for years now. Issuing our scouts with passports would be progress.
Rowley Villa
Its significant because like everyone knows, our scouting seems to be non-existant for so long! When did we last unearth a real gem?! Secondly, Culverhouse is seen as the real coach in the Lambert team and his appointment would be a real boost for Paul Lambert.

It's these faceless workers behind the scenes that help build great sides. Lambert is already creating something significant at Villa. Can't wait for next season. Citeh and Manure will probably be title contenders but beneath them everything is up for grabs.

Great news, what did they do everyday because they certainly didn't sign any hiden gems

Mickatkins21 - that's why I said do you think it would have ended up being like Newcastle's? Because it never had time to truly develop. It was begun a year ago, so only had the January transfer window to act in, when we had no money to spend. Now we have money, but a different manager. Not that I'm complaining, mind you, I just wonder if it may have unearthed a few gems eventually, once it was in a position to. The Dutch leagues produce a fair bit of talent, but I agree with Lee282, we should definitely look to use Lambert's contacts in Germany and get some scouts out there too. Traditionally a very under-developed area of our club, I hope Lambert is planning to (and given the resources to) strengthen our scouting system.
