Weimann Delighted With Bent Return

Weimann Delighted With Bent Return

Not my proudest headline ever, but it's factual. Andy Weimann has said having Darren Bent back and raring to go this season will be a big boost for the club.

Speaking to the Official Site Weimann said having Bent fit again would be a tremendous boost for the club in pre season and if he can stay fit for the whole season, he says he believes he'll have a huge impact as we look to better the campaign that shall be forgotten.

'Darren is our No1 striker and it's really important that he stays fit all season and gets us loads of goals. Having a fresh Darren Bent will be brilliant going into the season. Whenever he's in the box and he gets a chance he'll finish it really, that's the thing about him and that's what makes him so special, he'll only need one chance and he'll score it.'

Okay so a fair bit of smoke blowing, give him 3/4 chances and odds are he'll bury 1 of them and that's not a problem when we are creating those chances - as we saw last season expecting Darren to win us games when we create only 1 opportunity for him doesn't go well most of the time - but it will be a huge boost having him back as long as we set ourselves up to play to his strengths.

Weimann adds that he thinks it would work with both of them upfront, because whilst he admits Darren's strength is getting on the end of crosses as opposed to being more involved in the game, he thinks they would compliment each other well:

'Maybe he's not always involved in the game but he's always making runs and if there's a cross he'll be there at the end of it. I think you can learn which runs to make, but in the box it's instinctive. I look at the way he finishes and I try to copy that, I think we both like to score goals and I don't see a problem where we couldn't play together.'

I suspect we'll get the chance to see that in pre season depending on both players' overall recovery. Lambert will be looking at options and partnerships, and as Weimann does involve himself more in the game it could work well.
