Barry Bannan Says Make Or Break Season For Him

Barry Bannan Says Make Or Break Season For Him

Well Barry Bannan sounds like he is focussed at the moment. Hope so. Personally I`m not sure he`ll make it but would be happy to be proved wrong, especially if he can develop off the pitch as well!

He told the Birmingham Mail that he knows this coming season is crucial for his Villa career.

Bannan heading

The 22-year-old midfielder said:

"It`s probably make or break for me this season if I`m being honest. It`s a big, big season. I`m 22 now and I`ve got to be playing so hopefully I can have a strong pre-season and show the gaffer what I`m about. My aim this season is to be one of the main players in this team."

He says there is far more to come from him and adds, "I think I`ve shown it in flashes but not quite enough over a period of time."

Bannan hand up

Difficult to judge any of them on last season isn`t it? But great to see that he is hungry for it. Hopefully this is more than talk. I also hope he realises that not every pass has to be a 'Hollywood pass` ... some can just be simple as long as we keep possession.

He`s also spoken on www.avfc.co.uk saying there is more to come from the team in general.

There has to be. There will be no more hiding places in my opinion, if they don`t perform, Lambert (I hope) just won`t play them.

And on himself, 'I've got two more years left, so I've still got plenty of time. But I want to be one of the main players this season.'

Bannan Running

I think by 24 you will know, 22 he (and the others) are still learning. Not sure fans show much patience with the younger players, one bad game and some write them off.

I'm one of the 'unsures'. But hope he does make it. Who in their right mind wouldn't? He has come through our system and is one of the latest in a long line of potential stars. We needs some of these potentials to make the grade and move forward. Maybe with McDonald gone these former 'kids' will feel more of a need to stand on their own two feet. Height is not a problem - ask Scholes - so its all down to desire, skill and mental approach. Good luck Barry.

Personally I think he is crap and wouldnt be bothered if he never played for us again. Iv seen nothing to say he will step up. Just my opinion, but hes not as good as he thinks he is. Gary Gardener on the other hand does look like he could step up, and with a run of games could have the potential to be our very own Stevie G.

lol Fear one bad game and we write them off. A couple of decent turn outs in the reserves and many hail them as the next Messi. I hope he proves me wrong but I don't rate Bannan at all

I think given a better playing style Bannan looks a good player, we will have a better idea at the end if this year, but personally I rate him.

I quite like him as a player and think he has real potential. question is now whether he can knuckle down and concentrate on his football above all else, otherwise he will be moved out and probably slip down the levels.

Passing yes. Pace, height, strength, guile, tackling, dribbling, attitude, vision No.

You said it all Villan44, passing YES! The trouble has been getting a performance out of those he passed to. It takes 2 to Tango and 11 to play proper football. So give me another 10 that can pass, no matter their height.

I think he can make it too ,good potential along with Gardener ,Weiman & Carruthers . He shouldn't be judged on last season as he probably got a clout around the earhole if he dared to try an attacking pass !! See how he goes this season. I'm very wary of writing youngsters off ie Cahill Whittingham etc

agree AVbornandbred! Too much pressure on some of them, like Gary Gardner, many seemed to think he'd just float over the pitch as the messiah. Not as easy as that is it?! Got to have patience!
