Villa After Another Ruddy Keeper?!?

Villa After Another Ruddy Keeper?!?

The Daily Mail say that Villa are trying to sign Norwich keeper John Ruddy.

The paper says that 36 year old Given "has suffered with injuries and loss of form in recent seasons." Has he? He did have injuries yes, but his form seemed fine to me!!!??? lol

The Mirror also report this saying that Norwich have approached Blues for Jack Butland leaving the door open for us to go for Ruddy. They also say that we have offered Brad Guzan a new deal. Not according to Villa though, he was one on the release list wasn`t he?!?!

The Birmingham Post also repeat that Jean II Makoun will get a fresh chance at Villa when he returns for pre-season training next month.

Our latest poll asks if you`d replace Shay Given.

I don't remember a drop in form since he's come to us? He's had the injury run and fine, he isn't getting younger, but don't think it is right to talk about a loss of form?

Decent keeper but much too old to be getting in as your 'new keeper'...nooooo !

As we all know he's a great shot stopper but he doesn't have command of high balls into the box, which in turn puts more pressure on his defenders. Our problems last season were not just the fault of our central defenders.

Combined with the link of Shay going to QPR I wonder ?. Only thing Shay lacks in my opinion is command of his area. (wages again>?)

I'd have Shay over Ruddy all day long. No, he's not getting any younger, but a couple of errors in a very poor Irish side does not suddenly make him average. He's still a top top keeper and whilst he may not have the greatest command of his area, I still think he'd save us more points overall than Ruddy, for another season at least. If Ruddy was prepared to sit on the bench for a year, then as injuries and simply age take their toll on Shay we have a settled replacement already waiting. Then maybe young Siegrist will start sniffing around a place on the bench. I wouldn't want us to sign him as this year's number 1 though. Just my 2 cents!

Limited funds..A keeper is NOT a priority IMO..Two quality central midfield players first, then two full backs etc

Agree krfeskvilla, central midfield is the key issue to sort out, then the back 4. I just hope Sid is passing on some useful performance notes.
