Ken McNaught Says Lambert Needs To Control Ego's

Bit of a quiet news day today, not seen one made up press link or anything!

However we do have Ken McNaught talking about the new boss Paul Lambert.

Ken tells www.dailystar.co.uk that Paul Lambert has a big job on his hands but he can do it.

"It`s important he gets in that dressing room and separates the wheat from the chaff - and quickly - because the fans will demand instant success. I don`t think he`s the type who will look for a settling-in period - he will know it`s him or them. If there are players who don`t buy into his way immediately they need to go and I`m sure that is how he will see it."

And this is just perfect from Ken:

"There are a few big egos in the team and I don`t understand why, because none of them has ever won anything."

He adds that the egos might stem from the O`Neill days, bringing in players on massive contracts and telling them they are good! He mentions the time we got beaten by Man City and they then jetted off to Dubai.

"I asked Ron Saunders if he`d have taken us away after a bad result and he said, 'You know the answer to that`.

He`s basically saying we went soft and I think a lot of us totally agree don`t we? Big ego`s, players who talk off the pitch and don`t perform on it and players who care not one bit about Villa, just their big wages and what other players are getting.

Times are changing though and not before time.

Love that bit about ego's ... so true!
The Fear
Who are these big ego's though? I know Dunne and Collins are known to be two, but who else is there? Is Warnock one? Or is he just someone who doesn't care for the club? Is Hutton one? I'm aware we have some big ego's in the dressing room (who actually haven't achieved much, if anything in their career's to date) but how many are there? And who?
astvil123
Fair few I'd say, some who haven't even made it yet.
The Fear
Hmm, interesting. I've always wondered if Delfouneso is one of them, and Barry Bannan too. It will be interesting to see who Lambert boots out then.

Absolutely Spot On Ken!..... Bravo!

I wouldn't argue with Big Ken mac on anything !

Great player was Ken. He took a little while to settle in at the start of his Villa career but oh boy did he peform after that. Let us hope Nzog does the same with a decent manager in place now. Great words Ken - let us hope the prima donnas get someone to read the article to them and they can then ship out and rip some other poor club off!

Well said Ken. At least you could show them your medals and also show them what is like to keep you're feet on the floor.

Bannan has an ego the size of himself: would you celebrate a new contract by buying a Range Rover if you couldn't drive?? Whoever Ken is talking about, he is right to suggest that there is a lack of fight and belief in the dressing room, and that will change under PL, I have no doubt.

Nowt wrong with an ego if it's channeled correctly, it's what we need to teach the youngsters who are talents. Only bit I disagree with is fans won't demand instant success, Lambert will have time BUT he should demand instant success as Ken says and anybody not up for that can walk.

100% bang on Ken.

Ken sums up a lot of the players perfectly. I don't appreciate egos generally, as quite often, for some reason, it is people who have never achieved a great deal who have them. Mike has a good point in saying there is nothing wrong with an ego as such but when it come with a lack of respect for people and no appreciation of what you have got I have a problem with those concerned.

As an aside I remember Ken and Cyrille Regis having a good tussle at the Albion in one game. Eventually Cyrille snapped and planted a proper punch, not a girly handbags at dawn effort, on Ken. I think Ken just shook his head, wiped his face and carried on. The point was he didn't fall over trying to get a fellow professional sent off. Proper centre half, proper professional and a proper bloke.

That last post has reminded me of watching a game on television when I was a little kid between Derby and Leeds at the Baseball Ground. Franny Lee and Norman Hunter had friendly, philosophical discussion. They were still having a tear up after being sent off. It's not a good example and I don't advocate violence kids but they didn't drop down at the slightest hint of a breeze (Ashley take note). Worth about five sending offs each in today's footballing currency

Yep agree totally with the egos bit. Think hes wrong about us expecting instant success PL should and most probably will be given time, I would imagine most Villa fans have a realistic view of the task facing him,yes there are some dissapoitments ahead but as long as we show signs of improving and play some half decent football I for one will be more than happy in the comming season.
