'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Danish Defender To Save Our Bacon?

Only a tiny snippet so far today for transfers.

The Daily Mail say that Villa are interested in 27-year-old AZ Alkmaar`s Denmark defender Simon Poulsen who is also wanted by Ajax.

Wiki says: Simon Busk Poulsen (born 7 October 1984 in Sønderborg) is a Danish professional football player of Nigerian origin, who plays as a left back for AZ in the Dutch Eredivisie championship. He has played nineteen games for the Denmark national football team.

And we also have a few quotes from Villa CEO Paul Faulkner in The Birmingham Mail.

He says they know the squad will need freshening up with comings and goings saying now Lambert is in place, the transfers are the "next order of business."

"You want to get at that sooner rather than later - the earlier we can get things moving the better - but, equally, the transfer window doesn`t shut until the end of August so we will use all the time we need. It`s about being smart in your moves, being able to scout well, having freedom and taking some chances."

He also says that Lambert will shake things up and won`t allow players to just tick over or drift.

"There`s absolutely no doubt there will be ins and there will be outs. We`ve got some good players here at Aston Villa already. Maybe last season, due to injury or just under-performing, it didn`t click."

Interesting times, can`t wait to see who is incoming but must admit, I`m totally intrigued as to who will be pushed out of the club.

I like the Scandinavian players, there attitude is usually bang on.
The Fear
i would say no movement in the transfers until the euros are over....
I have to agree JF - if he's even half as good, reliable and professional as Mellberg or Laursen, he'll do me just fine.
Get Mellberg back. He still has it.
Sounds like the sort of player we need and experienced enough.
holte ender 1969
Yup, we'll take him, does he have a brother? A second cousin who can play holding midfield?
It's just a shame that Carew didn't share that usual Scandinavian attitude, he could have been a true Villa legend.
villan of the north
Mellbergs beard was well in form last night! 34 now though!

Agreed Villan, imagine Carew with the attitude and fight of Laursen or Mellberg? Blimey, he'd have been awesome.
The Fear
He sounds like a tasty prospect!
Agreed Fear. They generally have a good attitude and adapt quickly to the British style of play and lifestyle, whilst usually resisting some of the excesses of our culture.

Regarding your first post Fear, I'm sure Ibrahimovic would beg to differ lol.
I have watched Poulsen a few times in recent years in the dutch league and for Denmark, and i would say YES YES YES to this fella, he is what we need, i am impressed already if this is the type of players we will be looking at from know on, Poulsen is a good defender and bombs forward he is quick and can take players on twisting them inside and out and they struggle to get the ball of him as he is very strong, im luvin it luvin it luvin it,
Ibrahimovic is Serbian though. Did you notice how Shevchenko ran round the outside of him to get in front of him for Ukraine's second goal. Lazy, lazy sod. But daft to have him marking Ukraine's best striker
I agree with Clive.. he's no world beater but be very solid and would offer more than what we currently have at LB... He played very well against Holland the other day and seemed pretty capable during the last world cup... I would take anybody in at LB iv completely lost faith in Warnock since MON left...
Jongekki, Ibrahimovic was born in Sweden, not Serbia. His father was a Bosniak father and Croat mother - both definately not Serbian.
Yeah I just saw that on Wiki too lol. Though it's be unfair in any circumstance to say Ibrahimovic's attitude could be generalised across Scandinavian players. Back on topic though, I'd try any new LB over Warnock.
I tell you what else was a tasty jacket potatoe with beans and guys should have seen the way my fork skipped past my knife before laying off the perfect amount of crispy spud oozing with cheese into the back of my gob. It was pure genius......
Haven't we previously been linked with Poulson, the name seems familiar - can't remember if it was Houllier or Eck though? And yes, it was nice seeing Melly strut his stuff again last night.
I remember us being linked to Christian Poulsen, the former Liverpool man, if that's what you're thinking of?
lol@Hippo... I did say USUALLY bang on! ;o)))
The Fear
Haha I did notice, it was just that the temptation to point out that one of the players with the worst attitude in the world is Scandinavian was too much to resist :D
Hippo, it does matter getting called a Croat or Bosnik if you are Serb ;-) Maybe Zlatan is the exception that proves the rule - hope so if we do go for him.
The ingredients dont have to be in the break the bank category if you get the balance right. Jacket potato, beans, cheese... the sum is greater than the parts. They combine well together, yet individually each one is tasty offering something different.
