Would You Let Stephen Ireland Leave Villa?

Following todays link in the press saying Stephen Ireland will be sold if a bid of 4million comes in, we have a simple poll question (right hand side bottom of page):

Would you let Stephen Ireland go?

Forum thread: Stephen Ireland thread: Click Here

Ireland action

He's certainly been a mixed bag since joining us from Manchester City. Mercurial character really, but do you not get the feeling with the right manager he could be great for us? In glimpses he's looked very good and did win a lot of the man of the match votes last season?

Or are we best shot as he does seem to blow so hot and cold?

Think I'd rather he stayed and we got the best out of him UNLESS we have a decent playing incoming who would do a better job with less baggage obviously!

To let him leave as soon as good manager comes in that plays good football would be a bit silly. I think next season could really be his season.

4m??? He's worth a lot more than that! Personally think he should stay, as last season he was our best player, and that was with a crap manager. I'd also go along with whatever Lamber decides, as i'm backing the manager =)

Keep him, think Lambert will get the best out of him.Not sure how long he has left on his contract but would sooner see if he can do it with Lamberts attacking football,if not sell in January.

I'd keep him if he took a pay cut, but that wasn't an option.

Are you all saying keep him in the hope he plays better or do you think he is really that good. i like him as a player but feel he doesnt want to be at Villa

All players blow hot and cold. In a season of pure dross last year he was one player that did show some spark. There are many other players that should be shown the front door, other than Mr Ireland. And 4m is an absolute joke. UTV

I would keep him. At times last season he looked something like the player we know he can be. However,he needs to bring consistency into his game He might excel under PL so it would be silly to get rid until we see how he they get on together at Villa Park.

Personally i think we should keep Ireland and see what he can do played in the right role like Lampard or Gerrard allowed to get forward and make runs into the box, he is good at that under Mcleish he was not played and allowed this role, GH just didn't play him, lets give him another season and see if under Lambert in an attacking team he can excell? We need experianced players in midfield not outgoings there IMO

Last season he played quite well under a crap manager. Now we have a good manager, it's being suggested we sell him.... and for a little as 4m??? Honestly, you couldn't make it up!!!

Were you lot watching a different team last year ? How long do you give a guy to turn up ? "played quite well" - on a scale of 1 to Heskey I agree - on a scale of anything resembling a premier league player on 50k plus a week - I dont - How he got player of the season is beyong me - not even in the same class as Given - or Petrov for that matter

I am quite pleased to be able to say I am confident that we have a manager who I am happy to tust his judgement. If Lambert wants to sell. No worries. If Lambert wants to keep. No problem. Personally I think Ireland given direction, support and managed properly is a great player worth far in excess of 4m and would prefer to see what Lambert could do with him.

Depends on what burden his wages are to the club, has shown glimpses but questions remain about his whole attitude. There is definitely a player there but will he just continue to be a waster

I swear some folks who post on here never go to VP and in some cases don't even watch the games on TV. Ireland looked a class above anything else we had on the pitch last season and was the only player who looked in the same league as some of the big boys. Tripe about not working or looking like he wants it, not wanting to be at the Villa can only be posted by those who form their opinion from the Sun. He ran his backside off last season despite constant criticism etc from Mcleish. he won man of the match on numerous occassions by a landslide and was almost always in the running for it. Everyone of course will have different opinions but I wish more people would based theirs on reality and less on what is said in the tabloids or what happened in previous years.

Just remember we are paying Ireland almost 4m a year in wages...that's almost 5% of our ENTIRE annual income, he does not deserve a key player wage

8-10m to strengthen with 2-3 players maybe, but otherwise Ireland is the current scapegoat and was quite good last season, I expect him to do better under Lambert.

Some folks are saying that he was rubbish last year. Based on that assumption we should sell the whole squad. As iv said above, he was one of the players that did show some class on the pitch. Why on earth would you want to sell a potential match winner??? Who could you buy for that amount in todays hyper market??? He hasnt really had the previous managers behind him, so lets wait and see what he can do in an attackin team eh!!! UTV come on England..........

Apparently he's on 65k a week. That may be a reason to get rid, personally I would, hasn't justified the money he earns since coming here. 1 goal is not good enough, and he never closes players down or attempts to tackle.

According to Vital Villa he was Villa's player of the season because he got more MOTM awards than any other player. The problem is that his transfer-fee was inflated to make it look like more money was spent from the Milner transfer-fee, than was actually the case. He's actually rated at 5.7m, which seems more realistic than the sums which were bandied about. Although, if his wages are high, he will be definitely on the cull list no matter how good he is, like the rest.

No doubt about his footballing ability but can't help thinking he will never get over his sulk about being rejected by city. Suspect he has the same amount of interest in Villa as weasel Downing.

Certainly got the ability. Love to see how he turns out with a manager giving him a much needed kick up the arse followed by a cuddle, which is what he needs on a daily basis. (Disclaimer: never met the man, just going on what everybody says about him ... he may be the most hard-working, determined and mentally stable player ever).
