Petrov Club Captain - Who'd You Make Team Captain?

Paul Lambert has confirmed on www.avfc.co.uk that Stiliyan Petrov will remain as Club captain.

He says that his health is more important than anything and says it is just unbelievable as Petrov was always the fittest amongst them whilst they were in the same Celtic team.

'He is a huge influence on this football club. I will go down and see him again, I text him and see how he's feeling. This is an illness that affects thousands of people and it's hard because of the relationship I had with him. I played with him when he was only 19 and he first came over to Scotland. I had eight or so years with him. That's a long time to have someone as a team-mate. I just hope and I'm pretty sure he will beat that. At the time I was told, we were on our way to Fulham. I was just devastated. I couldn't believe it."

He has also said he will need to look for a team captain for the next season.

Who would you make our captain out of the current lot? Or would you wait for a new signing maybe?

Our new poll asks who you`d make team captain and I have to admit, I struggled to think who to put in, especially as a few of those I`d not be surprised to be sold this summer!

buy a new captain in, I like strikers like Bent to concentrate on nothing but themselves and I'm not convinced keepers make good captains?
The Fear
We're looking at Clark or Herd, maybe Lichaj for me unless we buy somebody in.

Good that Petrov will still be captain, here's hoping he will play again for us. Don't know who else could be captain to be honest, apart from Given i don't know, Dunne is probably a good choice but his behavior would have wrecked his chances. I'd say bring someone new in and make them captain, definitely not Agbonlahor anyway, how can that man inspire anyone at all? He hardly looks bothered when he plays let alone get everyone else fired up.

Out of the players we have Given's the only option really.

Delay the choice until the new signings are in and pre-season is almost over. Then look for the natural leader. Agree not Gabby, he was woeful in the role last season. If his play was better then Warnock maybe. The captain needs to be able to command respect and Clark is too young at present and Herd blotted his copy book last season and is too inexperienced.

What Mike said.... Given is too injury prone and Bent isn't the sharpest tool in the box. He struggles to do 1 thing all game, doesn't understand anything other than finishing. He can play in only 1 position and is pretty selfish. The 3 mentioned are team players and will lead by example by putting 100% in.

Anyone but Gabby. Out of the current lot I'd say Dunne, but depends on who we bring in.

Apart from Given, i can't really see anyone suitable for captain currently at our club.

Buy one!

Bent being captain could be the spur he needs to add the extra work rate to his game maybe? I'm not sure why I'm writing this, I don't even believe it myself....

After a well considered review of the current squad I would select.......Doris the tea lady or whatever alias she now operates under. Seriously, I would want somebody who is committed, professional, experienced and with a modicum of intelligence. Based on that criteria, it would be Given but I don't like keepers as captains. Therefore, I would wait until we have bought players in. pr whatecve

Not sure how prwhatcve got in the last post. The answer must be to drink more water with it.

id make Simon Kjaer captain if we could sign him!
rotter82
Out of our 11, I'd say Given or Dunne, but I've always been in favour of having a captain in midfield, but we haven't got a midfielder who's name is guaranteed to be on the starting lineup.
VillaHippo
Yep got to agree wouldnt give the job to any of em. We need an inspirational Captain with Stan out and Villahippo has it almost 100% correct we havent got a midfield.
Merlin128777
Lihaj. Then Hutton would be less likely to get picked! I know it's cruel, but ......
