Villa Squad To Be Shaken Up - Players To Leave

So, along with the talk of arrivals, Lambert Looking For 5 Players With £20m Funds? it looks (obviously) like Villa will shake things up a little bit and get rid of some players.

The good thing about this managerial appointment is he has a full summer to assess and look at what he wants to do. Should help end the tailspin we were put in to following the rush departure of MON.

We`ve been discussing who you`d let go for a while in the forum along with a forum poll (feel free to vote !)

Which of these players would you KEEP?

Charles N'Zogbia 165 Votes - [23.44%]
Barry Bannan 146 Votes - [20.74%]
Fabian Delph 120 Votes - [17.05%]
Richard Dunne 83 Votes - [11.79%]
Nathan Delfouneso 46 Votes - [6.53%]
Stephen Warnock 43 Votes - [6.11%]
James Collins 34 Votes - [4.83%]
Happy to see most go 29 Votes - [4.12%]
None, sell them all 21 Votes - [2.98%]
Alan Hutton 17 Votes - [2.41%]

John Wragg has a report at that says Alan Hutton, Stephen Warnock, James Collins, Fabian Delph and Stephen Ireland could all be players under pressure to exit.

Happy with those? I`d keep Ireland I must admit, the others can go!!

Remember, this is press talk, not names put out there by Paul Lambert.

John Wragg also says others that Lambert will have to assess are Charles N`Zogbia and young players Barry Bannan and Marc Albrighton.

Interestingly, exiled (well, he was loaned anyway) Jean Makoun II could well be given a second chance. He has returned from his loan at Olympiakos where he apparently did well.

Wragg adds Lambert also wants full-backs, central defenders and central midfield players. He will assess the squad when they report back for training on July 5.

Good, just what we need, a proper shake up and bring in players who realise the honour it is to be at a club like Villa.

Lambert said: 'Once I get my feet under the table I can start to look at what's going on and dig a bit deeper. I am really looking forward to it. There is a good feeling around the place and it's up to me to try and keep that. As long as we give it a go that's all we can ask. I will do everything I can to make this club successful.'

Which if any would you KEEP?

If no squad assessment until after July 5th then I'd anticipate a MON-esque deadline window buy-sell scenario. Lamby doesn't have much choice though with a new squad to assess.

I think we all know Ireland won't be going so I think that was written for a bit of banter, if I must say.

Makoun HAS to be given a second chance. His experience would add so much to our midfield while Stan sits out.

There is no doubting how good he can be, when he wants to be, paul.

Hutton for captain? Gets my vote. That is at Falkland Islands F.C., isn't it?

Mutton would be a great captain...for Craggy Island FC, he wouldnt get his place in the Falklands.

I'd love for the club to go for someone like Sami Khedira. That would be a statement of intent. One slight worry I have about Lambert is that he might go down the MON route of signing mainly journeyman British and Irish players. Continental European, African and South American players are generally technically superior to players from the British Isles. Grant Holt is never going to get people exited. I agree that Michael Owen on a pay-as-you-play deal would be interesting.

Michael Owen never plays cus hes always injured. 10 years ago then yes, but come on, behave....I wouldnt even waste the phone bill calling his agent.

Ireland wont leave BUT if he is going expect a good attacking midfielder to replace him...

Owen, Hargreaves would have to be pay as you play and nothing else, and I can't see either agreeing to that. Can't see Ireland going anywhere, on form he's exactly the type of player Lambert should love in midfield.

Michael Owen.... just another bench warmer, when he's not injured.

oh transfer talk is amusing! Can guarantee someone will put forward an obscure name and say how great they are because they're tasty on football manager lol. Love RiseAgain's comment complaining about journeyman Englishmen, pushing instead for European/South American players before suggesting we go for Michael Owen - class!

r@l -- Damning with faint praise, eh? I wasn't 'pushing' for MO. Merely suggesting that he would be 'interesting' on a pay-as-you-play. Citeh took a risk on Hargreaves last season. Owen, admittedly, isn't as relavent as he was a decade ago as someone has already pointed out. However beggars -- Villa -- can't be choosers and he could be 'useful' as a bench warmer. OK, sunshine, who do you think would be a good signing? I don't play Footie Manager (like you?). This is just banter, fella. Go back to World of Warcraft and leave the rest of us to speculate in a lighthearted manner,.

Btw, If you think Khedira is an 'obscure' name then maybe you ought to learn a bit more about footie in 2012.

Banter indeed RiseAgain - no hard feelings, it was a low form form if wit I confess and intended as lighthearted. You recognise the type of post to which I was referring though, even if I was inaccurate here? No I've not heard of Khedira though I'm not up to speed with much outside the premier league or last 4 of champions league (perhaps I am in fact the Villa chief scout!) - hense the assumption it was Footie manager (no, not played for years!) No warcraft thingy either, too busy writing reports for 30 odd ten year olds! Im with Lambert to be honest - Messi all the way :) Id like to raid Spurs for Krankjar and take advantage of the situation with Pienaar. Im hopefull Makoun will come good and also felt Ireland was on the rise and think Herd can do a job. Maybe even Delph will sort his life out. Though I suspect not.
