'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Lambert Press Conference Quotes

Here are Paul Lambert's own words from today's press conference.

Quotes from the Official Site.

'I'm very proud and honoured to be here as manager of Aston Villa, a club with a fantastic history and tradition. With the help of the players and the fans, I will do my very best to drive the club on.

'One of my first objectives will be to get the crowd going and to restore the good feeling back to the players so that they, in turn, can excite and ignite the passion and energy of our supporters. For me, it is imperative that the players are able to perform with a freedom and hunger and desire to succeed.

'Villa are one of the big clubs in the history of English football and this is a great challenge, one I am genuinely enthused to embrace. I have my own levels of expectancy which I am determined to try and meet and these will hopefully marry with Aston Villa as a club and especially with the expectations of the fans.'

In quotes carried by other media outlets following the press conference, Lambert also said about our fine club:

'Villa have already wont he European Cup which speaks volumes for itself, it's won titles and it's got everything going for it. My job is to drive it on and that's what I'll do.'

'We have to try and play football the right way for this club, if we can do that, and we can win more games than not, then the crowd will certainly go with us.'

'I'm not going to shy away from the expectancy at Villa, it's something I'll thrive on.'

As for the Martin O'Neill chat - he added when asked if they had spoken:

'I did. He was brilliant about it. He was really complimentary. I know what he did here which was take the club into the top six which was a phenomenal achievement and it's something I've got to live with.'

Live with, equal or better, no doubt with fewer millions - will history give Paul the bragging rights over his close friend??

Even Monny's most ardent fans will want him to beat it.

And fair play Monny, credit where it's due!
