Paul Lambert... The Press Conference

So, news just in really from the Paul Lambert press conference.

I typed it into the forum as it went on... see: Click Here

And also interesting comments about Martin O`Neill: Interesting - Lambert Took O'Neill Advice On Villa

So, he first off thanked the Norwich fans and then said it was all attention to Villa now.

Paraphrased, some direct quotes, I typed as quickly as I could!

Paul Lambert: He wants to make Villa as successful as he can, he needs the massive fan base to drive them on.

Paul Faulkner was asked re: money.

Said "squad got to be made ready for pre-season and certainly start of season.

Money available. Some players he is sure will also leave.

He isn't going to give a number to the press.

Smart moves, freshen squad, help the quys already here, give Paul the tools he needs."

Paul F confirms Lambert was number one target (asked about Ole)

He says wanted to take time, speak to a number of managers, a lot of it remained confidential, some didn't 'unfortunately' but once we met Paul it was totally clear he was the man for Villa.

Lambert he says recognised the potential at Villa.

Paul was absolutely top of the list and we are thrilled he is here

Back to Paul Lambert:

Paul Lambert asked re: backroom staff... says that is for another day. Got to get started himself.

Huge huge club. Excited. Tradition etc

This club has got everything going for it.

Asked about fans...

Got to get fans excited, got to give them something. We need them, the players will need them, I'll certainly need them.

It is up to us to give them something back.

what excites about coming?

Not going to shy away from the expectations, there is pressure to get results and that is what I'm goign to try to do

AND want to play football the right way that is right for this football club and we can win more than not we will get the fans behind us.

SPOKE to MON and MON was complimentary about the club.

Asked about Holt.

Laughed at the tweeting thing by the player.

He hasn't given thought yet re: transfers. Had a chat with CEO and Chairman and now has to start targeting transfers.

Lambert asked about disappointment on having to quit.

Paul said he had his reasons that will remain private.

Just glad to be at Villa now. that chapter is done, 3 incredible years, will never be forgotten (and earlier had thanked their fans for being brilliant)

Wishes Norwich the best of luck and that it is a fabulous club but now he has a duty to drive this club on and together with the fans he will give it a good go.

Cool, respectful to Norwich, excited to be at Villa and 100% banged on about the importance of the fans. That is obviously something he is very aware of and I'm sure he'll find a most excellent fan base here for him.
The Fear
Its just nice to get a guy who fits the club, I wish him all the best for what he about to undertake and hope that everyone gets behind him and the team through what will be a truly 'transitional' year (at last). Welcome Paul and here's to better times ahead. UTV

Did anyone else think he seemed a bit overwhelmed? I've noticed he has a bit of a tell when he feels uncomfortable about something, scratches the left side of his head/ear. Very low-key press conference, but I guess that's just what we need after last season.
Turkish Penguin
Turkish ......... 90% of people scratch their ear when feeling awkward. Probably feeling empathy for Norwich fans at the moment and doesn't want to come across all brash. Its what he does on the pitch that will count.
astonmilan
Good press conference, short and to the point. I like him, he's no media darling 'Arry that's for sure which is what I want. A manager not an entertainer. To be honest he scares me a bit, like Roy Keane, I wouldn't mess with him and i'm sure the players won't either. Now bring on transfer season!
Stephen Jay Hawkings
watched it in the pub - the subtitles were on - not sure if it was freudian but sky sports said " After the break we'll have the entire press conference lies" think they meant live !
Mat777
astonmilan - *scratches ear* What do you mean? Hahaha. I'm sure you're right. Let's get these Euros done and dusted and we can look forward to an interesting summer!

He doesn't pander to the press, hence his low-key approach. In fact, he's normally a man of few words, unless he gets peed off! I kind of prefer it this way. I knew he would have spoken to MON about the club, Lerner and Faulkner, to get the full picture. He's walked in with both eyes open - he even has the experience of playing under McLeish, so has insight there too. Lets not forget this is a great club to manager with potential for silverware, if done properly. That's why Lambert would have taken the job. If he can win something here, his career will be set up.

Let the rumours begin...
CDX_EIRE
He'll know MON and his ways ..... he'll know that he wasted vast amounts of money on average players and wages then didn't want to know about getting rid of players to drum up a balance. They are very different in the transfer market, MON is a great manager, but crap when dealing with transfers. UTV

Full marks hes left Norwich but pays his respect to the fans who backed him as it should be.
Merlin128777
would rather him scratching his head during the press conference than his... I'll stop there.
The Fear
By admitting talking to Martin O'Niel you can see he's already done some homework on what / who he has inherited. I read recently that he had visited Stan Petrov ( they are friends from their Celtic days together) so he probably has got the Captains view of the squad as well. I'm really exited by this appointment. role on the new season! UTV
Nat999
He does look a bit like Mark McGhee though.... ha ha, as long as he manages better than McGhee, we should be ok
JuanPabloAngel
great start to the summer the heartbeat of the club(fans) firmly in the forfront of the managers mind. Does his homework. Ready for the new season now bring it on. Ready to be the 12th man again.
Astonvanilla
Finally, a press conference from a manager who didn't say anything idiotic! lol
mike_field
Said all the right things, lets hope he has his eye on some flair players though. Please no more overpaid aging British long ball merchants.
son_of_cher
He does look a bit like Mark McGhee though.... ha ha, as long as he manages better than McGhee, we should be ok JuanPabloAngel JPA, thats the first mention of Mark McGhee. I was begining to think I was the only one to have noticed that.
TelfordVilla
far better he scratches his head now rather than when the players and fans are looking for leadership and direction (m*****h take note on how to conduct urself in dugout/on touchline)
deaf dean
Play football the 'right' way, bring the confidence back to the players and excitement back to the fans.... LOVE IT!! UTV!!
AdzVilla11
It has begun, and it's going to be goood
antonvilla
It's looking good already isn't it?, and we haven't even kicked a ball yet....Lol Can't wait to see the starting eleven on the opening day of the season....
