Allan Evans Total Overhaul Needed AND Patience

Villa legend Allan Evans has told www.dailystar.co.uk that Villa fans need to be patient, Paul Lambert has to have time to re-build.

He told the paper:

"Paul Lambert is a fantastic appointment and a young guy who has lots of his own ideas about what needs to be done. But he has a hell of a job on his hands because if you look at Villa`s squad, there`s not enough top quality players there."

He also warns of the expectation levels at Villa and admits that Villa are "crying out for a creative midfielder, like Gordon Cowans. I watched them last season on TV and I was bored. It pains me to say that but it`s true."

"They`re no better than Norwich. But expectancy levels at the club are much higher. It`s not easy for me to say that as I love the club and would walk there tomorrow to help out with the coaching."

He says Villa need to have a total overhaul, 'the whole club` including staff, players, everything`.

Wonder if that means he expects root and branch changes in staff behind the scenes to freshen things up?

Most importantly he adds "Paul will need to be given the time to do that as Villa won`t become top six in one year."

Fair enough, we`ll accept 7th then?!?!?

Evans is the first team coach of Truro College's football academy. He was also involved in the Plymouth Argyle youth set up, but I can`t see any mention of him at the moment on their official website or his wiki page @ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allan_Evans_(footballer)

Our new anthem?!?!?

We have the rudiments of a good team, there are some class players, but they need man managing to get the best out of them, there have been too many drifters and underachievers for too long. But we do need a good turnover over players I think. Think he is hinting there that they need to change the backroom staff as well?

Speaks the truth. It's not just on the pitch that we need fresh blood it's off it as well. I would release KMac and return Cowans to the kids where he is far more comfortable anyway.

Why release KMAC who has created a youth team worthy of future league titles. Thomas Holte you are stupid to think KMAC needs to be released, have you seen our reserves over the last 5 years, idiot!

this emphasis on needing time is an excuse and quite frankly an insult because its insinuating that we didn't give mcliesh time... which is a load of crap. people now are still saying he is a top manager - i swear to god people in football in this country need to really wake up. its full of overpaid idiots in every angle. with massive excuses for everything. he has close to 3 months to get a squad together - we have great key players - in my mind if we sort our back 4 out and attacked we would easily be a force.... add another quality winger and central midfielder in and you are sorted. facing facts that mcliesh has no idea how to manage a premier league side and blaming injures and lack of players is a massive excuse. swansea don't have more quality than us.. they have just been promoted into the prem and had one fcking season.. they played more interesting football because thats how it was MANAGED!!! how many times at the start of season did mcliesh take off nzobgia and put on fcking heskey... just a joke. we need an overhaul in the defence thats about it. if we get another winger and a great central player we will be fine.

Allan Evans is also a part time driving instructor, so he'd be foolish to walk to Villa as he's a top driver!

A major overhaul to say the least... we've a decent squad good enough for top ten but anybody who thinks adding one or two players will turn us into even a top 6 side must be mad... how many of our players would the top 6 have in their starting 11... Given, Bent and Petrov if he was fit... we need a major over haul I hope Makoun is given a fair chance by Lambert he is/was champions league standard...

Solid defensive minded coach, mix that with Lambert's style in attack and we couldn't go far wrong. Unless my memory is playing tricks on me, we didn't fair too badly last time Evans was with us!

Yes, patience is needed, Rome wasn't built in a day. On a slightly difference note, as I posted a week or so ago, I seem to remember Ron Saunders came to us from Norwich. Does lightening strike the same place twice? Sit tight, it could be an exciting ride.......

Realistic target is top ten and hope for a good cup run playing attractive attacking football. No way top 6 yet. We will not finish above Citeh United Chelsea Arsenal Spurs or Liverpool and probably not Everton or Newcastle (although we could). With a few good signings I do not see ANY reason we can't finish above the other clubs in the league. Realistically 9th or 10th...and a CUP RUN (or two)

Agree krfeskivilla, top half this season should be the target and I don't see why we can't get it.

I would think that 12 to 14 and no worrys regard relegation would be a good start to making us great again in his first season! 10 and higher I think is a bit much to expect after the rebuild job he has been left with! Let's not put too much pressure on the man!
