Gabby Agbonlahor Again Linked To Sunderland

A slightly quicker transfer link today. again link Gabby Agbonlahor outwards.

They say that Sunderland are interested in the 25-year-old striker. They call him 'former England ace` ... has he retired from England or is he not bothered or is he just not good enough at the moment to be in the running?

Gabby tackling

They say Martin O`Neill will bid for Gabby at around 6million.

Surely not? 10m maybe?

Gabby went on a 22 game without a goal run last season and his record over the last two seasons, albeit slightly wider than he would have linked in position, has been poor. Forum thread: Click here

Gabby action

As we discussed in Ag-gone-lahor? Would You Let Gabby Go? his record at Villa is:

2005/06 he played 9 times, (6 as a sub) 1 premiership goal.
2006/07 he played 38 games, 9 premiership goals, 2 Cup goals
2007/08 he played 37 games, 11 premiership goals
2008/09 he played 36 games, 12 premiership goals, plus one goal in Europe
2009/10 he played 36 games, 13 premiership goals, 1 FA Cup goal, 2 league cup goals.
2010/11 he played 25 games, 3 premiership goals, 1 league cup, 1 in Europe
2011/12 he played 33 games, 5 premiership goals, 1 FA Cup goal

So... our latest poll asks, would you sell Gabby for the right money?

6Million the cheaky tit, is he having a laff? If there is one manager we MUST not sell on the cheap to anybody its MoN after he spent our money and cocked up our wages by putting players on 50/60k a week and not playing them so we could not sell them on to other clubs as they could not afford there wages thats why Sidwell Beye etc sat on there backsides getting splinters of the bench at Villa until there contracts run out costing us Millions, yueah right would MoN also like Given or maybe Clark for a million?? No to the sulker unless he pays at least 12million then i would think about it otherwise he can pee off! UTV!

6mill? thats expensive.. gabby is utter garbage to be honest. and people think we should keep him because he is loyal? 99% of our fans are loyal.. do i want them playing upfront? no. id take 6mill anyway he can't score for toffee - just runs and runs... just because someone has pace doesn't mean they can play football

Sell, any forward that gets confused about what the outcome should be when presented with a one on one with the keeper, should be sold

I'd sell him and try and bleed the money out of Sunderland after all MON doesn't mind has it's not his money as he displayed with us and spent over the odds on most players.

Agree, 6-8m would be nice. He needs a change and we need another striker.

I think we should keep Gabby. At the start of last season he was playing the best football of his career imo...then injury plus McLeish tactics caused a loss of form/confidence and he was awful the latter part of the season..New manager..attacking football..another chance for Gabby UNLESS silly money offered 12m +

Whoever thinks 6m is not great buisness for Agbonlahor is deluded. I'd snap Sunderlands hands off, don't care who is bidding for him O'Neil, Mcleish, Holloway whoever, i'd take 5m for him...Can't keep a player in a squad just purely because he is a Villa lad, he hasn't been good for a long time, he has speed and that is it, literally nothing else to his game at all so good riddance.

I think lambert will want to assess his ability first... if Gabby doesn do the business this season he will be off...

Well P.Avfc i am deluded then, if Grant Holte is going to cost approx 5million you really think Gabby who is 25 years old compared to Holt who is 31 is worth almost the same? Gabby has played on the wing many times for us he has not always been a striker,

Mon won't bid until August 30th, so it doesn't matter. By then Gabby will be happy again under Lambo. Otherwise, by August 30th Gabby will cost 15m, simply because it's mon and there is no time to sign anyone else.

When we sold Ash and Judas Downing Gabby was deployed on the wing by GH and Mcleish so if Gabby gets compared by some to other strikers goal rates then its only fair to compare ASH's goal rates to Van Persie etc

Gabby had one trick , blistering pace but even that has dwindled to a mere quick but nothing most defenders can't handle . Sell him before he is worthless and goes the same way as The Moores and Vassell .

villan57 his pace has been affected by his injuries to be fair, if he gets himself fully fit and up for it this season coming then he would be a good option to have for us, plus we do not have a great deal of experiance in this squad already i prefer we add then take away look at the injuries and weakness of depth we had last season

Depends if he's interested this season surely? If we get the Gabby we saw to begin with - Blackburn etc - 6m is an insult, we would be looking for 10m minimum surely? If we get the Gabby we saw come the end of the season (again!) and we have better lined up, 6m would be s steal. Down to him, he has the contract to be a legend, got to start performing like it.

Ahhh, the enigmatic Gabriel Agbonlahor. By now, he should be a Villa legend, a regular in the England squad and getting on for 100 Premier League goals. Injuries, form and frequently being shunted around to make way for the likes of Heskey have all conspired to ensure none of these have happened. So far. He is only 25, I would think we need to keep him at least another year and see if Lambert can get him back to his best, which is pretty frightening when he is on song in my view. We are hardly over-run with quality strikers (Bent, Weimann, and, er, that's it) so why would we look to sell anyone? 6m would not bring a decent long-term replacement, spunking that sort of money on someone like Grant Holt would be right out of the Martin O'Neill book of transfers. Why not keep Gabby and offer Wolves, say, 2m for Steven Fletcher?

JuanPabloAngel great name and great post mate, i agree 100% with what you say, but i would still consider Holt to be honest if he was available for say 2.5million just as an option as we are lacking a big man

Holt at 3m and keep Gabby. Holt is on max money @ Norwich, 15k a week, even at 25k he would be value. Gabby still has a role to play, we need 4 strikers and we now have a coach who is not afraid to make tactical changes. Keep Gabby till Jan and see how it goes.

Please someone tell me what else he has in his locker? Speed is his only strength, this man couldn't put 2 + 2 together, has not got a footballing brain and would question whether there is one at all (no offence). He has had the occasional good finish, but very rarely, he relies on pace and i wouldn't really care if an offer comes in and he goes to be honest.

I would keep Gabby for at LEAST another season, yes he's not the most amazing player but he's much much better when he's not left wing which he played all last season (when he played). Let's see what Lambert can do with him first and where he plays him. I think Gabby, Bent and NZogbia could be a devistating front three if setup correctly.

JPA, you echo my sentiments exactly. Give Gabby one more year and see how Lambert might transform him. Gabby always starts a season well and must stay away from injuries to keep his form. Of course if he is played in his prefered position then he might score goals if the service is right.

No! Gabby is a Villa man and should be given the chance under the new gaffer - with better tactics and, hopefully, better support. After all, he is still only 25. I do fear, however, that some part of his slide is due to his effort to build strength, which has sapped his pace.

Surely have to give him a season under Lambert? Yes he's been poor but even Bent wasn't really scoring under McLeish before he was injured because they got no service. And Gabby has spent a fair amount of time stuck on the wing in the last couple of years. I have reservations but he's got time on his side at 25. I'd be loathe to lose him just yet
