Allan Evans Says Yes To Holte But KEEP Bent!

Allan Evans Says Yes To Holte But KEEP Bent!

Richard Sydenham at repeats the nice easy link to Norwich striker Grant Holt who is looking to leave Norwich City.

Interestingly in this report, former Villa great Allan Evans says Holt would be a good signing BUT NOT at the expense of Darren Bent.

100% agreed! Bent could feed very nicely off Grant Holt in my ever so humble.

The report says that Holt would be available for around £3million but then, haven`t other reports said that Norwich have turned down a £4.5million bid for him from West Ham?

Holt is said to be on around £15k a week at the moment, so obviously could get a nice pay day moving and still if doubled, that would be within a decent wage range for Villa.

The report also says that Lambert has a transfer kitty around £20million plus if he sells players, he can use those funds as well.

Evans says quality is needed and "If he signed Holt that would be a very good acquisition because he scores goals. You need three top strikers to be competitive. We saw Villa struggle to score last season when Bent got injured. Lambert knows Holt and managers like to sign players they know they can trust and that would be the case there."

Adding "Gabby Agbonlahor is a bit too hit and miss in front of goal."

And on Bent, he said if you sold him for £20million, you`d only have to spend the same sort of amount to replace him so why bother!?

Striker Bent cost £24m and Evans is dead against selling him to raise more funds.

He also added "They`re also crying out for a creative midfielder, like Gordon Cowans. I watched them last season on TV and I was bored. It pains me to say that but it`s true."

As we mentioned in the article: Transfer Talk! Grant Holt Linked To Villa!

He has tweeted recently re: transfer request etc. The third makes little sense to be fair!

'Can I just say the rumours about me and the gaffer falling out are very wrong so no more tweets about that please.'

'Just to stop the rumour mill again. I have expressed to the board and the CEO that I want to leave the football club. Due to disagreements'

'I have loved my 3 years at the club and it sadness me to right this but want use to here it from me first. #lovedmytime'

Comments from Vital Villans so far on the link:

Not sure about that one. He's had one good season in the EPL, but that doesn't mean a second is to follow. We need proven quality that does the business time and time again. Defoe for me I think. He's looking bored at Spurs and given what's available at the moment he looks like a great shout. jsmccue

Get Holt in - get rid of 'I'll bet on the keeper every time if its 1 on 1" Agbonlahor and refresh the team please Mat777

No thanks. Lazy journalism. Holt is 31 and not what we should be looking at. I'm sure Lambert (if he comes) will want to play a big fella up top because it's his style of play but I'm equally sure he'll be able to find better than Holt. There's also no way that anyone outside the club knows the transfer budget, I'd be amazed if it wasn't higher than the number quoted as McLeish had that much, but subject to salary cap and some caveats on the type of player (young, resale value etc etc) AVbornandbred

Holt as a direct replacement for Heskey? No problem with that, younger and more importantly scores goals. I'm always concerned about blocking younger players progress but if they're good enough that shouldn't be the case. Stephen Jay Hawkings

Are people really moaning about the possibility of one of the top scorers of the Prem last season joining us? Really? Steff_the_Villan

While i like Defoe iwould prefer we go for a big striker like Kenwyne Jones or Bas Dost or Grant Holt, if we keep Gabby we need a bigger striker to give options to change a game as Weimann Gabby and Bent are not the biggest so for games like Stoke away etc we need the option of a big guy to throw on and win some balls for us IMO

Defoe is prob a bit too much like Bent anyway? I do like him though. Sturridge if he is looking to leave Chelsea would be a treat!

holt? no thanks - probably come to villa on a big wage and not score anything..not convinced by one season in the sightest.. bent will be scoring the goals also... you think your going to get 17 off each? no

I think Holt would be a perfect foil for Bent. Both have an eye for goal and would prove a real handful with the right service....Holman. Forget about Holt being 31, he'd be good for 3 or 4 seasons. He can certainly put himself about too.

Id defo take Holt in fairness for what he would cost he would be well it for 2 or 3 seasons... Why would you not want somebody who can score goals...? If lambert is ambitious I would like Giroud tho... :)

We need a new big man up top. Lambo knows all about him, and knows how to get the best out of him. Feeding, and doing the dirty work for Bent /Gabby is a perfect mix. He could be our new Carew.

Holt had 2 assists all last season, so to suggest Bent will fill his boots playing off him is a bit wide of the mark.

Sturridge would be perfect iw we decided to sell Gabby imo he scores he is fast and can play wide aswell as being younger than Gabby, with all the transfers Abramovich is doing could we put a sneaky bid in or a loan for 12 months i wonder? But would still like a big umper lumper as an option stop changing my mind Fear stop it!

3rd tweet translates into English as 'I love the Norwich fans and it's only fair for you to hear I'm leaving from me and not the papers'.

Sadly Holte doesn't seem to know the difference between 'right' and 'write' or 'use' and 'you's' which in itself isn't brilliant English.

As for the link I wouldn't double his wages, he should be very happy with a slight increase whereby we can address it again come the end of the season IF he performs and works out. As an direct swop for a Heskey, there can't be any arguments for me. A target man who also scores and puts himself about properly. Might be a short term fix, but again I'd still rather see us go the Rhodes route with younger players, but Holt could do an unfashionable job for us and I don't think anybody would get tired of 'and it's Holt at the Holte End....GOAL!!!!!!'
