Norwich Confirm Lambert Resignation + Reject It

Norwich City FC have put up a statement on:

The Club regrets to confirm that Paul Lambert has offered his resignation from his position as Norwich City Manager.

We have fought hard to keep Paul at Norwich City and have not accepted his resignation whilst discussions with another club are taking place.

However, whatever happens, we want to place on record our sincere gratitude for everything Paul has done for the Club over the last three fantastic seasons.

When Paul joined us in August 2009 we were in 66th position in the English football pyramid and the Club was on the brink of financial meltdown.

Today we are a Barclays Premier League football club, on a financially sound footing and with a stadium full to capacity.

Discussions with Paul throughout the last few days have been professional and amicable. Paul has already earned his place in Norwich City Football Club history and, no matter what happens, will always have a friendly welcome at Carrow Road.

So sounds like he will go, just posturing from the Club in order to get a decent compensation package. Can`t blame them for looking after their side of things really.

What now? Can they legally keep him? Hope so. Ole Solksjaer's Claret & Blue Army!

They cannot keep him. No employer can force an employee to stay against his will. Compensation will be the only issue.

All betting has been suspended on who will be the next Villa manager. Looks like he's on his way.

Martinez was my first choice but im delighted with Lambert, we need somebody to sort the club out much like Taylor did the first time he was here, its time for all Villa supporters to get behind the new manager olof!!!!!

Polite and posturing statement, he's off. Norwich are simply making sure they get the extra pennies on compensation and I can't blame them for that. Welcome Paul I think.

let the barrage of transfer links, rumours and speculation begin... any money within 2 days of him being confirmed as manager there is a flurry of links about grant holt... In the mean time - 'lambert give us a wave, lambert, lambert give us a wave!'

I did my season ticket last night so I'm over the moon. However, I'm hoping nothing goes wrong because this is the Villa! I hope we all get behind the next manager. Last year was a nightmare so bring on the new season.

Norwich doing what any club should do and getting compensation for Manager, as i would expect Villa to do in the same situation (funny though, no one seems to be making a move for our managers???)

Of course I'll get behind him. He's a great manager. I'd have preferred OGS, Martinez or AVB because I think they seem more passionate and could attract bigger name players. Expect Grant Holt and long balls from Collins, but anything is better than last seasons tosh. Roberto M...I mean Pauly Lambert's Claret & Blue Army!

Forgive me fellow Villans, but until i's have been dotted and t's crossed I am taking nothing for granted. I have previously put that he would be very welcome, but there is a nagging doubt that is difficult to put a finger on. But lets put one thing straight. He doesn't play football in the Barcelona/ Arsenal/ Swansea (who have thought you would include them a couple of years ago). He plays his game dare I say it, like a Villa Man. We like wingers, energy, effort, no nonsense defenders and we love a centre forward. That is why Paul McGod, Dublin, Withe, McInally, Lochead, Gray, Carew, Willie Anderson, Morley, Daley and Young were idolised. At Villa we love to see a man beat someone, hit the byeline and then put it on a plate for a centre forward, who kills three defenders to reach the ball and score. That is the Villa way. His way isn't tippy tappy. He doesn't play for draws and we may even concede more than last season aargggh. But we will probably score twice as many and the football will have us on the edge of our seats, sometimes in frustration at the defending and sometimes in pure joy at seeing a Villa centre forward bulging the net in front of the Holte. IF he comes we could be in for some fun and games. Hang onto your hats boys and girls and enjoy the ride . . . . . . . . IF he comes!!!!!

olof, I like you wasn't pushing for Lambo - was hoping for some nice tikka takka stuff from Poyet, Rodgers or Pep G (we can dream); but once I started hearing names in the frame like Bruce, Southgate and McCarthy, all of a sudden Lambo looks like Ron Saunders, Chewalot and Shankly, all rolled into one. Let's ALL get behind him and show the true potential of this club. Assuming it all works out of course - nothing ever goes smoothly in B6.

said from day 1 happy with any of Lambert, martinez, poyet, ogs was left field but also not a bad shout so for me they have gone for a man-manager and a safe pair of hands. To be honest compared to Eck I would have settled for Bruce or McCarthy last season. Hes going to need the fans backing which I am sure he will get because next season is going to be another tough one at least we wont be playing for a draw every game.

He has been the man for me since we knew Eck was on thin ice and although I renewed my season ticket regardless, this will really make it worth it. I honestly believe he wants to come and the above statement pretty much says as much although nothing is a done deal unlesss we see otherwise. Norwich will make sure they are adequately compensated and will thank a man that took them from 66th in the league and on the brink of financial meltdown to mid table in the prem, with a full house and financial security all done within a small budget and various styles of play. I really think this man is a good suit for us and where we currently are at the minute as well as a step up in his good career to date....!

Bangok, Ron Saunders did manage Norwich but he came to us from Man City. That aside though I agree with your sentiment and I would welcome him to Villa. If he achieves anything like what Ron did, who for me was the best Villa manager I have known, I would be happy.

I am hoping he's on his way to us, and it gets sorted sooner rather than later, because as you say VOTH, he 'fits' the villa way, and i reckon it'd be a pretty safe bet that games down at villa park, win lose or draw, will at least be exciting and entertaining once again !! ... and that is what we all really want !!

Delighted with the news. I was really excited with the OGS links but Lambo's the man. Got to say but I've always thought Norwich are a good club and to be fair it looks like they've handled this fairly well so far. Good statement and makes the way Blues and Wigan have handled the approaches for their managers as really low class amateur hour.

He's gonna work our team so hard in pre-season, they will need to be the fittest they've ever been to play Lamberts way. Better not be any dummy spitting this time. Can't see it myself, our 'trouble makers' are in the final year of their contracts (i think) so either need to sort it out or be moved on.

Firstly I have lost loads of respect for Martinez and Whelan throughout this process, they are both full of it and I'm glad we didn't get someone so fickle to lead our rebuild. Secondly Lambert was one my list of five, so if we get him I'd be more than happy. 3 seasons in charge, two promotions and a mid table prem finish with Norwich, I look forward to seeing him take the next step and push us up the upper echos of the league. He's a strong man, a smart and well respected man as well. Don't be fooled, yes he can play the ball wide and knock it in for a big striker but Lambert is not a one trick pony, he plays 3 or 4 different tactics and shapes and can also play nice passing football. He rotates his squad often, keeps everyone interested and on their toes. We can play 442, 433 and many styles under king Lambert, he isn't afraid to chop and change and will always have a go at the other team regardless of who we are playing. I'll be absolutely delighted and back him 100% when I see him standing in the dug out.... Exiting times!! UTV
