PAUL LAMBERT - Approach Expected In Next 24 Hours

Sky Sports have just had an interview with Midlands Sky correspondent Pete Colley.

He said it is his understanding that Paul Lambert is Villa's number one target and they will approach within the next 24 hours to speak with him.

Pete goes on to say 'I fully expect him to be named the next Villa manager in the next 7 days'.

The report also suggests that although Roberto Martinez was interested in the job, it is the Norwich manager they want.

Please forgive me if this is the case what the hell have we been doing then? Why the wait?
Congratulations you are our 4th choice, do you feel special, only kidding I know we don't really know who they have and have not spoken to, and it what order, but damn it is taking a while, seeing as Dalglish was sacked after Mccrap and Liverpool now have a new manager and we might be announcing something in the next 7 days, maybe
Will he bring his Butler with him.......sorry bored :-) Either him or Martinez but why the wait, let's get it done and start chasing any transfer targets please.

What the hell takes us so long? And why 7 days, why not tomorrow? So bored of all this by now, I bet come next week it WON'T be Lambert and they're will be more hulabaloo about who it is or isn't! So bored but excited at the same time I cannae take nae more!

I can see this ending with more public embarassment for the club
I know we don't know whats going on, and who has been approached or not etc etc but it seems like a huge coincidence that we announce we're going to talk to Lambert after Martinez decides to stay Wigan.
Happy if this goes through, Lambert was my orginal 'head' choice, OGS was the 'heart'. Seems like he doesnt take any crap which is EXACTLY what Villa needs at the moment, ive got a funny feeling Dunne and co wont be stepping out of line with this chap as they will be playing for new contracts next season. Carte Blanche if he takes takes the job as the squad is so bare, lets hope he has some interesting transfer targets. My main worry is that he's never had any cash to spend before so we could end up with loads more overpriced U.K players.
Just thought id add, what happens if he turns us down!?
We say to someone, congratulations you are our 5th choice, do you feeel special....
What's the problem? Rodgers said no to meeting Liverpoo and they went for him after talking to Martinez and others. Lambert said he was happy at Norwich and we go for him after talking to others. The order of the meetings with candidates we may never know, but Lambert has always been high on the list according to those itk. Martinez and Whelan deserve each other, we deserve a winner. Go and get your man, Randy, before it's too late, then we can, hopefully, all back Paul Lambert's Claret and Blue Army.
it seems to me that the club are waiting for Lambert to say "come and get me" if he doesn't, then your guess is as good as mine.
PL will not be leaving Norwich. It will take him a lot less than 7 days to say no.
I can't see why Randy or the board would reveal to anyone who the 1st choice was, surely they wouldn't be that stupid (then again last summer comes to mind). I'm sure they have a list and talk to everyone and then make choices, making it obvious who are the 1st, 2nd, 3rd choices etc., wouldn't benefit anyone.

No it hasn't, sorry, no it wouldn't
Makes me wonder why, after having kept things so under wraps and behaved so professionally, we'd suddenly announce that we will approach Norwich to ask for permission to talk to Lambert. I think its tosh and just more scattergun reporting. It might turn out to be true but its a fairly safe given that Rogers is off to merseyside and Martinez is staying at Wigan.
Maybe they are trying to get Mike Bassett after seeing a film of him doing so well as England manager?
We haven't announced anything, we won't until we have something to say. If you believe everything Sky have said the last few weeks we'll be opening the season with 5 different managers. IF we are going for Lambert contact would already have been made, interview possibly had, and we've now just worked through our shortlist for the man we want. It was only yesterday Martinez was still favourite for us with Sky carrying just that from memory, but after today they have to print something else. Agree on the last point, they have no idea and Lambert is the obvious to build up now AV. Look at how people got carried away with OGS, especially the press, and all along even Ole was saying he'd not received an offer lol The only time we and the press will know for sure is when a press conference is announced.
Lads look at it this way, i think Lambert has done a better job at Norwich than Martinez and Rodgers has at their club. Swansea play a more direct attacking way but Lambert has plan A, B, C and probably D...Grant Holt was saying that in once game they used 4 different formations from a 5-3-2, 4-4-2 to a diamond + they finished on the same points and scored more goals. Martinez has been with Wigan for a while now, it's been the same old story every year, just finishing outside the bottom after having a late set of results, how do we no we wont suffer the same? Lambert was pretty consistent with Norwich, finishing mid table and not in a relegation battle unlike martinez.
Very wise choice IMO Lambert is young and hungry and experienced having to rebuild a club from the lower reaches Norwich were at up to the dizzy heights of the premier league and keep them up there with such a low budget thats why i wanted us to go for him, he fits what our club needs a manager to work on a restricted budget yet get the team playing good football and keep the club progressing whilst bagging some bargain buys to help Nice one Randy!!! UTV!!
Not so sure about the kind of football we'd see under Lambert..
When Lambert says no, I vote for Holloway.
we have to be realistic in who we can get, lambert would be a fantastic appointment. my 1st choice since mcleish got sacked. he gets my vote!
Lambert is a brilliant manager but I doubt he will leave Norwich, he has taken them so far and has unfinished business. I agree with above comments if Lambert was our number 1 target what has Randy been doing for over two weeks?? Sitting on his hands?? If that's true it makes me real mad as we should have some passion and hunger about our manager search, stuff being Mr Niceguy, go hard for your target and do what is best for Villa!! I don't believe the media though, they are a bunch of jokers, anyone of us could report such tripe on a daily basis. I want to see a video of Martinez committing to Wigan before I believe it, Whelan is a complete goose and a loud mouth..... If it is true Martinez wants to stay then it's the worse move he could make and I look forward to laughing at him when Wigan get relegated
With his MON connections and being 3rd or 4th choice, don't see this as being a formality. To think we all thought getting rid of Eck was the beginning of a fun summer!
Not sure how much influence MON would have. Remember, MON never said anything bad about Villa, except that he and RL "no longer shared a common view as to how to move forward." He even kept quiet on his return with Sunderland except to say "I apologise maybe for leaving five days before the start of the season. The timing was not great but I think the team I left behind was infinitely better than the team I started with."True. MON won't stop Lambert from taking the job if he wants it. Lambert gambled by going to Borussia Dortmund in 1996 and became the first British player to win the European Cup/Champions league with a non British team. MON was his coach for 5 years at Celtic where they were legends together. They may be pals, but Lambert is his own man, and wont be put off by anyone if he really wants to give Villa a go.
Hope you're right madirish. My choice would be Gus P, but he doesn't seem to be on anybody's radar. If not Gus, would like it to be Lambo - just don't think it will be easy to pry him away from Norwich. Would be terrible if we get rejected a third time this summer.
Read a piece by Neil Moxley for the Mail earlier, seems to think Norwich are waiting for the knock on the door as Villa have used an itermediary to sound them out, and according to the Telegraph, Norwich will accept 1m in compensation. Links:
It's been Lambert all the wayfor me too.... I did err a bit when OGS seemedto be inthe running. Has done a brilliant job at Norwich - 2 successive promotions to get to the PL and continued to play attractive ope, attacking football.
Pride of Lions
I'm not so sure about the kind of football we'd see under Lambert either, but it's going to be better than what we saw this season..
DRAYTON GREEN, you don't know the lottery numbers by any chance?? You mystic Mug.
As long as we don't get Pep and I will be happy. Pep McCarthy that is. How about that Jock Alex McLeeesh or whatever his name is. He lives local and is looking for a job apparently.
Was hugely critical of how Villa carried out the appoitment process last time. This time no complaints they said they had a list of candidates to discuss, dont blame the club for the way the media blasted everything out re-OGS at no time was he offered the job same goes for Martinez even at this stage regardless of Lambert leavimg Norwich nothing has been agreed remember the Mark Hughes saga ? No sorry not willing to take the medias word on anything. Would welcome Lambert with unabaited joy as I am sure many would when and if it happens.
