Roberto Martinez To Stay At Wigan.. Hey Ho!

Wigan chairman Dave Whelan has told Sky Sports that manager Roberto Martinez has re-committed to Wigan and will remain at the DW Stadium next season.

All we know is he met with Liverpool supremos, not whether they offered him the job.

Remember, apart from press talk, we don't know if we even talked to him. I'd guess probably not now to be honest.

So....... NEXT!

No ambition at all...Think he believes the hype Whelan keeps going on about about him, he isn't getting a bigger job than Liverpools at all.

Lambert must be odds on now. I think it's between Lambert, Di Matteo and Poyet....

I was all up for Lambert at the start - I got caught up with the excitement of OGS then had a minor sulk the other day that we maybe hadn't sounded out anyone else but someone on here just posted on another article reports in Norwich say we've permission to talk. Is that backed up anywhere? I think he'd be a great shout. Im annoyed Rodgers will good for Liverpool tho! UTV

Do we just have to have one? Its a long list can't we choose two - and keep one in reserve for the defeatss and negative comments and the other for the victories?

Whelan also told us Martinez had been offered the Liverpool job. Obviously he had not. See no reason to believe him on this either. Not sure we should be chasing after Martinez. He's turned us down once. It needs to be made clear that no-one turns Villa down twice. He had his chance to take over the greatest club in the world and he blew it. ***** him. Move on and look for someone with a little ambition.

Whelan is absolutely loving this, he is a media manipulater to help big up himslef and Wigan for when he sells them, Randy has fallen for the trap if he hoped to get Martinez again this season, I didn't want him anyway as Villa manager as he has not achieved anything of note and less than Steve Bruce and Paul Jewell when they were Wigan managers, lets hope its RDM AVB or Lambert someone like that and i will be very happy UTV!

Lol guys stop crying. He rejected us last year, so well done the board for not approaching him. Why give him the chance of rejecting us again. He wonted the Liverpool job and I actually hope 1 day he gets it. He will fail. Wigan will go down next season also.

I'd have liked Martinez but had a feeling that it wouldn't happen. This season is definitely huge for him now. If Wigan do well he's vindicated, if they struggle again his career will have peaked.

I honestly think Dave Whelan has ballsed up his man's career. Leaving aside my Villa bias then there are basically 10 maybe 11 proper big clubs in this country. 5 of those clubs are never in a million years going to take a manager from Wigan whilst they've got serious cash swilling around. He's just turned down 2 of the remaining 5. I reckon that leaves him with Newcastle United, Everton or Leeds Utd once they come back up? He needs success at one of those clubs to even have a chance of managing the 5 with serious cash. Chances are running out Roberto. You really need to get away from Foghorn Whelan before it's too late.

50 million in debt. Much of any suggested wage bill savings would go on compensation for Lambert. And more still for the back room team he likes to have with him. What transfere kitty will that leave? Probably no more than available at Norwich. They have far less debt and possibly with that more room for manouver. It would be a sidewse step for Paul Lambert.

Liverpool have got them selves a great manager, lucky them. Question - Does Martinez have a mouth?? Because it's seems the silly old wind bag does all his talking for him. Has he really committed to Wigan!?! Wouldn't you want to come out yourself and say that of its the case? Indeer yourself with your fans and all

Financials are basically sorted mate, look back in the archives for Heathfield's analysis on the last accounts. We aren't 50 mil in debt in the way you suggest, we paid down some of our bank debt for operating costs leaving the only real debt owed to Randy. We were in a fair worse position with Houllier who spent effectively 30m, we were in a worse position than we currently are under McLeish and he still spent 20m. Money isn't an issue, it was wage v turnover that was the problem.

Clwyd, how can wage bill savings go on compensation for a manager (whoever it is) and back room staff? One is a revenue budget saving that hits the P&L the other is a capital expense that will hit the balance sheet. As for a sidewards move, well lets look at the trophies that Norwich have won (as an indication even if a poor one of ability to compete), the size of the fanbase, capacity of the ground, training facilities, existing squad, youth and reserve set ups. Or maybe we could compare the profile of the club in the media or the ability to attract players (2nd city versus farm land, number of players called up for england duty, reputation outside UK etc etc).

This apparent news has made me quite happy this morning when I woke up. I'm more than happy he's staying at Wigan. Either that or he can go back to Swansea!

avb&b. We don't have to justify ourselves against little Norwich fella. Don't take the bait. Before the Premier League started we were in the top 3 of most succesful clubs in England. Now we are down to 5th. Lets leave the minnows to worry about themselves. We are the Aston Villa. That explains everything.

Well said voice, let's see if they manage 20 years in the Prem. Wigan's idiot midget chairman now saying Villa "not big enough" for RM - that pair of toe rags deserve each other and I will have a bottle of champers on ice to toast their inevitable relegation together.

Hmm think Martinez may have shot himself in the foot doing this 2 seasons running cant see many Chairmen willing to risk rejection from him (or insinuated rejection) in future. Dont know of course if Liverpool offered him the job at anytime or if its just the press again. Being bigged up by Whelan is fine but cant see a club bigger than us or Liverpool offering him a job.
