Aston Villa Manager Links - UPDATE List

The only updates today are about Roberto Martinez. Whelan, loving his time back in the press (!) says that Martinez will make up his mind on Tuesday and there will be a press conference tomorrow to announce if he is staying or going. There seems confusion as to whether Liverpool have made an offer, or indeed whether we have. Frankly, I don`t care, what will be will be!

Whelan also says Martinez is a 12 hour a day, seven day a week manager and will give his all wherever he ends up next season.

Sounds to me that Martinez is staying at Wigan. Wonder who our choices are now: Southgate, Lambert, ? What about Hoddle?

Sensing a tinge of sarcasm in young gordon's comments there! Surely we'll know by the end of this week....surely!

Surely its Martinez that they are after, can be the only reason things have been so quiet.

Please remind me, is there anyone else that has moved to Villa Park from Wigan? Oh yes mes Heskey and N'Zogbia. Great source of talent then!

I have a funny feeling we are getting Martinez

Just bemused that a decision clearly taken before the season ended - namely to remove McLeish, is taking so long to resolve. The delay must be caused elsewhere: Martinez taking time? Di Matteo unsure of Chelsea future? Gone are the days when the Villa job was so good that would be managers were honoured to get it.

I'm slightly surprised that givhe extensive list of names in the betting one David Platt is not featured, given his experience at Citeh and his European playing experience. OK he didn't quite succeed at Forest but does he fit the profile? I'm not advocating him, just musing.

Gordonsleftboot, speak to any Forest fan about Platt and you'll get a load of expletives in return. I don’t know how much of Citeh’s success is down to Platty, but suspect it’s not a lot. Even if he is a good assistant, they don’t always make good managers (Brian Kidd, John Gorman, etc etc). What really worries me here is it looks as if OGS was Plan A, Plan B and Plan C – once he said no, we were left with nothing. Another embarrassing, agonising summer awaits. Added to that, stories today that Sparky is after Shay Given. With nobody here to spell out to the remaining few quality players what their plans are etc for the team, were going to be a ripe target for this sort of speculation. Still Gus Poyet for me, feels less of a gamble than OGS and the way he had Brighton knocking the ball around would be just what we need to get some bums back on seats.
