'If It's Football, It's Vital'

We'll Hope - We'll Pray - Please Get It Right AVFC

Sir Ian Of Taylor has spoken with calling for a bit of patience.

The Villa legend says:

"I think a lot of fans are getting a bit worried but I know the club are fairly relaxed about the whole thing and not rushing it to make sure they get the best man out there. The last two managers didn`t work out for whatever reason so I think everyone knows how important it is for Randy to get this appointment right."

Adding, "You can understand the frustrations because in this day and age with Twitter and the rest of it there seems to be a constant focus on what is going on and every little thing is scrutinised. Obviously if you can get someone in quickly the sooner they can get to work on everything, but there are a number of factors to consider so a few weeks in the long run is nothing when you think about it."

Related: Do We Need A Manager Quickly Or Just Right One?

Can`t argue with that. Must admit, I think the longer it takes, the better the appointment has to be and logic suggests the better it will be. ie if they were going for a cheap / quick option they could have hired one of several who are out of jobs like Curbishly for example.

The fact the net is being cast wider and hopefully they are just waiting for the right one to be available should give us hope and promise for the new season.

Can`t wait for the man to be revealed though! I must admit, I`m extremely nervous, this appointment really is crucial, it will define where this current owner and board are planning on taking Villa and will decide the era. The last mistake has been corrected but another, from the moods on the message boards and amongst fans, I don`t think would be tolerated.

I`m hoping and praying, like the majority I know, that we get our smiles and swagger back for next season. The doom and gloom of the last two seasons is exhausting.

I guess being the 30`th anniversary of Rotterdam also serves of a reminder of what we once were and sadly what many of us still dream of us being.

So, we`ll wait... we`ll pray... please get it right AVFC!

I think patience is something we're gonna need, as there is no quick fix (except Lerner selling villa and someone invests 200,000,000). To get back to top 6 club its gonna take a few year we may still face a relegation scrap, but if we see positives and improvements we'll be okay...

after the ogs saga in a way I'm glad we are hearing nothing - and they aren't rushing into interviews etc... to me they are definitely looking around the world which is great. the likes of lambert etc is an appointment with no vision for the future so i am happy that board are looking for someone for the long term future of getting into europe... because i still believe we can do it and i believe that is their aim. i am nervous but i like how they arent rushing and it does make me think if ogs was a number one choice - AVB must be a one to talk to though i think..

Lambert has worked wonders at Norwich, the vision he'd have would have us all smiling to be fair Vilal4life87. Just he comes over a bit dour ! lol

oh and they HAVE been interviewing, just they have been able to do it privately unlike the Ole one which obviously blew up because of the jet being spotted. Press haven't been able to find out who else - which is as it should be!

Im not too worried who the manager is... Assuming we are still operating on a reasonable budget Lambert will be the best for the job... if we the new manager was to get a sizeable budget then AVB would be the man... AVB is probably off to Roma and Roberto is off to Liverpool... Im fairly certain we will be gettin Lambert there isnt really anybody else I see coming in... Curbishly, Grayson would send the wrong message... This lambert as a MON2.0 is ridiculous as well... Lamberts style of football is more akin to SAF Lambert got his coaching badges in Germany during the time of the German revival... Lambert plays a 442 diamond and buys players ho can actually control the ball and pass it forward... so in conclusion its going to be Lambert and its a better option than AVB or Martinez...

Mr Glen Hoddle was at the belfry on Thursday having his interview as a friend told me. I rushed out to put a buck on it and the odds had fell from 33-1 to 12-1 in the space of an hour and were down to 8's yesterday !

I honestly cannot understand what Lord Taylor says about the club is relaxed about the whole thing and not rushing it. Paul McGrath, if they relax too much, they'll find "the best man out there" will have gone and we'll be left with the best man left........ But yes, Just relax, we've got two and a half months to get one in, because he hasn't got much to do has he?...... ffs!

Does anyone remember what style of football Hoddle's team play? He seems as good a shout as any for me. I'm surprised he has been out of work for so long. You don't become Manager of England for no reason.

Sir Ian of Taylor, and Sir Fear ;) both spot on, Randy can take all the timein the world just please get it right is all that matters now, instant success wins etc is not what we fans should expect but more of a project a rebuilding of this Villa squad and team to get us challanging at the right end of the league where Villa belongs is what is needed at Villa, i have faith by randy and co just even thinking of someong like OGS impressed me and proves they are looking at the bigger picture from now on which is the only way we can get the old girl back to her fomer glory! UTV!

I still fail to understand how anyone can have confidence, in the same people who decided Mcleish was a good idea, being the ones to get this appointment right

anton m8, fair point i just have faith they will get it right because they have too for one, and just the interest in OGS showed me Randy and co are looking at a broader range of managerial candidates this time and i firmly believe they have learned from there mistakes in Mcleish, like i said i hope and call it blind faith or whatever but thats what i have this time round.

The ' club are relaxed ' part worrys me - RL and PL were sloppy on last 2 appointments, pray they get this right but my guy instinct tells me we just aren't savvy enough at the top. The next Manager has a lot of work to do on assessing players and restructuring the squad.

Well, Taylor's sold out anyway. He was praising Eck last season because he won't say anything against the board. The longer this process goes on just goes to show how inept the board are. They MUST have known that Eck was getting the bullet months ago. No-one would have given a ***** if Randy's plane had been seen anywhere if it was done before the sacking, unless of course, there was a tip off and it was a petty attempt to get some mugs to buy an ST thinking that we may get an exciting young manager in. I'm awaiting an Allardycesque appointment but obviously hope for an hell of a lot better. Randy has done nothing to suggest otherwise OTHER than courting Martinez last season and OGS this one. The fact that neither would come either says that they haven't been offered the job (as those that will hear nothing bad said against Randy will have you believe,) or that there's serious constraints in funding, the current squad isn't up to scratch and has an attitude issue also.

I wonder why Lerner didn't sack Faulkner as well as MCLeish. Faullkner was instrumental in O'Neill going two years ago and then hiring McLeish. How many more blunders will he be allowed to make? I say sack Faulkner now and get someone as CEO who knows something about football! Perhaps first appoint a director of football and give him shares and therefore a financial stake in the club. Alternatively gives representatives of the fans a real voice in making the crucial decisions, like key appointments and being involved in other ways. If we don't look towards making some real fundamental changes, the pattern of events we continue to will repeat and repeat every two or three years.

Do not think anyone other than Randy Lernrer makes the big decisions at Villa Park. Faulkner has done a fine job working on the financial side and Randy Lerner "took advise" before appointing McLeish it is that advise that was badly flawed lets hope he has changed advisors. But do agree with Villan 444 re the current squad difficult to make a fair judgement based on the dire football played last season but attitudes will need to improve next seasson.
