Laursen Believes Clark Will Be Vital Next Season

Laursen Believes Clark Will Be Vital Next Season

Martin Laursen has spoken of his admiration for Ciaran Clark and he believes that Clarkie will have a vital role to play for Villa next season.

Speaking to the Official Site Laursen said he was impressed with Clark's versatility, as he was often used in midfield as opposed to his natural and best position of centre half, and our former Man Mountain believes that Ciaran has all it takes to cement a regular place in the first team:

'I think next season is very important for Ciaran. Now he has some experience and has shown everyone he has the potential to be a really good player.'

Laursen adds that in his time he didn't train with Clark very often, but he knew how highly rated he was by the youth and reserve coaches.

'He had been captain of the youth team and then the reserves so that shows the high esteem in which he was held. I always heard people around the club talking very highly of him.'

Lot of Laursen about at the moment. Should we read anything into that? :)

Agree to do some comment pieces or a blog for the OS mate. Something like that.

Agree with God 2,next season will be the making of him ,just hope this does not end like Cahil,to lose one quality player in the making was enough.l

I reckon he could become one of our most important players if he sticks around long enough!

Hopefully he'll be played at CB with an incoming AN Other to beef up the backline. Certainly has the talent.

Should definitely be the first centre half name on the team sheet. Unless we sign someone class, I'd quite like to see him and Collins given a run together.

Definately a first team starter, think a manager would have to have some balls and strength to put him ahead of Dunne, maybe not Collins, but I too would like to see him alongside Collins.

I rate Clark very highly in either CB or DM, he should start every game to reach his full potential

high praise indeed from Laursen. I do like Clarke, one of the youth that does look like he will make it.

My favourite player who seems to really appreciate being a Villa player and genuinely cares about our club, along with Stan Petrov who I believe gives nothing but 100% every time he plays. This kid is a talent and needs to given an opportunity to play in his rightful position, who having played midfield all year will have a greater appreciation of the game and will have further developed his distribution. I fully expect him to become a top player for us and would go as far as becoming a future club captain if all goes well and that bit of luck comes his way. Really hope he gets this opportunity under our new gaffer and develops a solid partnership with a more experienced cantre half, whoever that may be...!
