Press Now Looking Towards Martinez For Villa

Press Now Looking Towards Martinez For Villa

Seems to be Roberto Martinez day for links to Villa today!

I`d be happy with that I must admit.

A decent article on www.liverpool.vitalfootball.co.uk with John Barnes discussing what is success and especially the achievement of Martinez keeping Wigan up.

And also remember our interview with a Wigan fan: Interview With A Wigan Fan On Roberto Martinez

Some of the national press are saying that we will talk with him if Liverpool don`t opt for him, personally (and this is just my opinion not ITK) I`d have thought if we were going to talk to him, then we already have. Only the Ole talks have become public, others have taken place. Read some press and you`d never guess that would you?

James Nursey at The Mirror thinks that Paul Lambert could well be the right man. The rest point towards Martinez:

There is the media gossip page on The Official Site

The Sunday Sun (!?!) says Villa are back in for Martinez and a more trusted source, Mat Kendrick of The Birmingham Mail also says Randy will go back in for Martinez despite the Spaniard having turned down the chance to talk to Villa last season.

>>And again on that, he`d already given David Whelan (old blabbermouth who couldn`t keep private conversations private) his word that he would stay at Wigan. Nice to know someone will keep to their word, exactly the sort of character we need at Villa...no? <<

Mat says that Martinez fits the profile of what Villa want.

His report adds Villa are wary of the risk of losing face with another snub and of the competition from Merseyside, but are believed to have received encouragement that Martinez would be willing to at least discuss their vacancy.

He also says that Norwich`s Paul Lambert, Swansea`s Brendan Rodgers and Brighton`s Gus Poyet are also in contention but no face to face talks have taken place with anyone since Randy flew back in on Tuesday.

Given the choice, I must admit, I think Paul Lambert is the man they should be going for but hey, I`d take any of those named at the moment, they all seem decent!

I would not be disapointed if we get Martinez but i do not get all the hype he gets, but if he does come here i will support him and hope he can turn things around here, i would prefer Rijkaard

Some may scoff at the Mail, but Mat Kendrick seems to have good contacts within the club, as do you, Mr Fear, and I think you know more than you can revealat this stage. Liverpoo USUALLY get their managers from within their own system, so it wouldn't surprise me to see the FSW Benitez going back there seeing as he was kicked out before the new owners took over. That leaves us to pick from Lambert, Martinez, Di Matteo or Rodgers. The OGS situation was played out too publicly in Norway, as was the Martinez thing with us last year. Whelan is keeping quiet for a change, Lambert refuses to answer questions, no noises from Swansea, and Di Matteo may be a free agent in the next fortnight. Why is there so much panic because an up and coming young coach has opted to play out our approach in the media, and then look like the good guy when the billionnaire backer of his club threatens to pull the plug and he decides to stay put for family reasons. He has only left an interview process early FFS. Pat Fenlon was a top manager here in Ireland, but is struggling to get a grip on Hibs, more expectation and more pressure. Maybe, just maybe, OGS was not for us after all. It's not as if we are short of contenders for the job. Can't see RL having to go cap in hand for (no offence) Big Mick of Steve Bruce. Last season, we would have been glad to have either Lambert, Martinez, Di Matteo or Rodgers.

By the way, I don't blame Martinez for last year's non "snub", it was more to do with a greedy little chairman talking his manager up. You can't turn down what you weren't offered.

He's not good enough, he has had money to spend at Wigan contrary to popular belief and has sat at the bottom of the Prem for three seasons .....

Martinez ? The hype from villa fans regarding lambert is far worse than Martinez. Lambert is such a dull want its untrue and his boring persona and pr is awful. Martinez is very very good infront o the media and his style of play is far better

So much has happened in the press and online with regard to our next manager, it's easy to forget that McLeish was only given the boot 10 days ago! 10 days, and people act like we've been rejected by Guardiola or Mourinho and will be left with only basement managers as interested in the job. I'm sure whoever gets the job will be because they share the same vision for Villa as the board, a long-term plan with intent to build a team capable of stylish football and success rather than signing players for fun and hoping the fans see it as ambition. "Student of Mourinho/Robson/Ferguson" sounds more exciting than "Norwich/Wigan manager" for me, but I'm sure it'll be a welcome surprise either way.

villa4life87 - You think that Ferguson and Wenger don't come across as dull? It's results that matter, what Lambert's done at Norwich in 3 seasons is nothing short of miraculous. Would be delighted with either him or Martinez.
