Given how badly the last two seasons have gone and the O'dreary spell along with GT's second tour its amazing. Shows how well we did in the early years of the prem

Now this was a surprise this morning. I knew our overall record was good but didnt know it was 5th. This shows that selling Aston Villa F.C to a potential Manager should only be as difficult as selling the board's plans for the future.

Seems we're 5th because we are one of only seven to have played in every Premier league season. The fact is we've only won six games more than Newcastle, despite having played two whole seasons extra. We've also scored less than Newcastle. Still, it's nice to see us at the right end of at least one table.

Doubt if we'll be 5th this time next year though...........

As we are the 5th best performing team in the Premier League years, as well as one of the best priced, why is it that of the top 6, based in Englands second biggest City, with a huge catchment area, we are the only one that doesn't regualrly sell out our ground??

Some of the negativity from our own fans is mind blowingly depressing.

yup, shame Voice, but look at our poll at moment, explains a lot. Some apparently support just particular managers, not AVFC

Sign of the times I am afraid Fear. There has even been heated debates on Talksport about Arse fans not renewing until they know if RVP is staying or going?

The stats seem to confirm that the perception that Villa is a rather boring brand, is probably correct. Villa just happen to be one of seven clubs which have managed to stay in the Premiership since its inception. The combination of having got the most draws and having a rather meagre plus-50 goal-difference tells the whole story of how Villa tend to play (this last season notwithstanding). Spurs’ stats show that they score more and concede more than Villa which confirms the prejudice that they are a club with a reputation for playing attacking-football. Newcastle have a fantastic points haul being that they have played 80 Premiership games less than those above them. But the one reality which emerges is the correlation between a club’s financial status and their ability to accrue points. If Villa’s peers are ranked by financial clout, Villa should swap places with Spurs but Randy’s big-spending years almost certainly account for that very slight anomaly. The only conclusion is that now that Villa will be spending less their position in such a table will inevitably fall by one place. Avoiding relegation is the biggest factor.

"Some of the negativity from our own fans is mind blowingly depressing" - Sorry Mr F but I'd put you in the negative camp after reading some of your posts over the last few months.

On a seperate note - I hope Spurs drop like a stone. I really hate them more than any other Prem club. They really truly believe that they are bigger than us. Horrible ground, horrible manager, horrible area. Best players will go this summer thanks God. All together now - "Have you won the European Cup?"

Really impressive points total but pretty poor goal difference. Still, very proud of that :)
