Solskjaer No Longer In Running

Contrary to what some are reporting, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has not turned AVFC down. He has not at any point been offered the job.

Some are saying this is a Villa media circus.

How is it?

They released a statement saying they will update us when they have chosen the manager full stop.

Ole came for an informal chat and if not for people tracking the jet sent to get him, who'd have known?

Ole explained why the jet, ie so he could show Villa the respect to talk face to face and still get back for his Molde teams weekend game.

Is it any disgrace if he or his family don't want to move back to England?

Is it any disgrace that Villa may have decided there are more experienced options open to us?

The Ole mania has been strange. 39 managerial games and as he said in his documentary, if you cut him in half he bleeds Man Utd and yet some are stomping around like we have just missed out on Mourinho?

Yes, it would have been intriguing but should the board be gambling on someone with little to no top level experience?

If we had lost the first few or been bottom half would people have remained calm?

The media circus has all come from Ole's side if things, not the Villa.

Candidates have been interviewed, it won't be long until we know who is coming.

Where is the panic?

As said, he doesn't want to be in the running now, where is the issue. I guess forever more some will say he turned us down.

You have to have been offered something in order to do that but I guess some won't let facts get in the way of a good rant.

The press, twitter/Facebook and these sites with our 24/7 appetite for information, and especially the itk's I wrote the article about yesterday have blown this up.

Villa have done nothing wrong and yet it is the Club being slated right now.

Our one forum poll ( which manager) had Ole way below other options. Then all of a sudden Ole mania broke out. Maybe things will settle again now and fingers crossed we get the right manager announced shortly.

I'm sorry and believe me...this is not directed at the fans...but ***** this club. They can't seem to do a damn thing right. I can't believe this got so out of hand. Ole gets an 86% approval rating from fans..and now we don't get him. Personally I think Martinez is ***** and why should players respect him? What has he done that's so great? Did ***** all as a player, coached a championship Swansea..and a Championship caliber Wigan. Why on earth do we even care about him? Seems a nice bloke, but if I were a player I could care less about him. What does he know that I don't? That's what I'm thinking if I'm a player. Paul Lambert is still a shout, but I do fear we will get a load of crap players punching above their weight until he leaves and we get stuck with just crap players. Just like MON. Ole was it for me. And I don't care if you say he is experienced. He had the X factor and he was it for me. This club is a ***** up. I'm disappointed, let down, and at the moment have no intention of watching Villa next season.

I'd also like to point out that I am not one of those fans who jumped on this Solskjaer bandwagon. I have been shouting for him since January. I was more surprised that the club had the sense to approach him more than I was that they thought to do so. I think we've really lost a quality manager and human being by letting him go and we should make him an offer he can't refuse.

I've now read about twelve stories on this and I'm still yet to see a single quote. Is this just another media story? Nothing on the official site and no quotes from the man himself..... It appeared originally as an "exclusive" in the ever-so-reliable Birmingham Mail.....

Agree with gmvillan. It all seems like hearsay at the moment. Nothing coming out of the OGS camp confirming he'll be staying in Norway. I don't think this is the end of it.

Sorry LA it's you. You're the one who spunked your pants, not the club. You want to believe twitter and the rags that's your choice. Nobody elses. You're upset because you feel let down because you feel your importance is more important than anyone else, the club however have never once said Ole was first choice.........in fact the club haven't even offered him the job, so grow up. You didn't get what you wanted boo hoo. As for the rest of your post, wait until the summer holidays you'll fit in then eg Wigan are so Championship they finished above us? Did you think when typing that because clearly he knows he's a Premiership manager not in charge of a Championship team for a start.

GM spot on. Loads of stories, no real quotes. However Ole wasn't offered the job, the club have better in mind. Ole has two years to go, we as a club are helping to mend bridges at this moment in time because of the reaction of Molde's sponsors who did react pretty much like people like LA are currently when he spoke to us.

Things may change with our other options but I again repeat...Ole has not been offered the role. He hasn't turned us down, he know's he is not our first choice so can people stop throwing their toys and being ridiculous in saying they won't support the club anymore based on us thinking we have better options than a manager with one good season under his belt....jesus!

It really made me cringe when i read your comments and those like yours LA Villan. There has not been anything wrong with AVFC policy in their search for a new manager, they have never said OGS is a candidate, in fact they have not said that anyone is a candidate as yet. Which is as it should be, we will hear about our new manager when the club release a statement, not when the rags or twitter tell us.

Come on - as if he wasn`t offered the job, Randy and PF went to an awful lot of trouble for just a chat FFS. Please think a bit more than just aimlessly promoting the club for the sake of it - we messed up like we did with Martinez, i dread to think who they`ll get in now as everyone approached will not be their first choice.

Why do teh club or even Solskjær need to make an official statement? If no offer is made then there is nothing to answer. When teh club appoint a manager we will get a statement. Now had we offered the job to him and he turned us down then a statement would be nice but even then, this is only due to Twitter/rumour overdrive. For all we know Randy has interviewd Rodgers and we've been turned down but no one expects a statement on that so what is the difference here other than internet rumours and a treacherous board at Molde?

I'm pretty sure that on a shortlist you have more than one person who meets your criteria and while it is initially disappointing to read, it doesn't always mean that it's correct. As the guys have said, if he hasn't been offered the job, he can't say no to it. Just because he's ruled himself out of the running doesn't mean he's not still in it. Drogba wasn't leaving Chelsea a couple of days ago according to his representatives, now it seems he is. It's only a 'media circus' when you jump on and believe every story that's printed. Now I'm hearing fans slating the board and saying we'll end up with someone like Curbishley or McCarthy? Wake up! The fact that we've been speaking to Ole shows the intent the board has for the club's next manager, so show some patience and support for the people who are clearly doing their best to make amends for last season. Time to lose the "fickle" tag now, folks.

Well said Turkish I agree 100% mate. Funny, as when I read the headlines today the first thing I thought was that Ols is definitely coming now. He hasn't said he is out of the running, he actually pretty much said if he gets offered the job then he'd jump at it. He is coping it with the main investor of Molde threatening to pull the pin on his funding so the cards have to be played correctly, Molde have 2 more games over next few days and then there is a break in the league, I expect then Ole will be named and come to us by the end of next week. It isn't as easy as walking out the door and Ole is a decent man and would want to leave on the right terms. Headlines are headlines, take them with a pinch of salt as very often they are a loads of *********. If Ole gets offered the job he will take it.

Never quiet in Villaland is it!! All will unfold in the next few weeks I'm sure. Disappointing that this isn't going to happen as I think alot of fans saw this as a clean slate, someone exciting to get behind, but we've got to believe now they'll get it right and someone more exciting is coming.....lets hope.

I was excited by all the speculation surrounding our new manager, but now I'm just bored of it. The media and whipped up a feeding frenzy and I've decided I'm not hungry. I'll wait and see who is officially announced and then make my mind up what I think about it. The good news is that it really cannot be any worse than the last melon, so the new season holds some excitement and I cannot wait to get down to Villa Park...and I haven't said that for quite some time.

Did the board write this for you to publish gents?? Very one sided. I would be happy with Martinez, lambert, OGS or poyet to name a few but this is an opportunity missed and seems that the board have wasted time if randy only spoke to one person whilst here last time?? Obviously can't believe everything written in the press and I know vital just publishes rumours and makes it clear that's all they are but there's no smoke without fire and after our last 2 appointments, everyone thought that they'd come to their senses at last and were going to get it right. The board isn't fully forgiven yet!!!

Aspinall, what trouble exactly have the club gone to? They brought him over to talk, nothing more. He lives in the arse end of nowhere (no disrespect meant to folks from Norway), a plane is the only way in and out with any expediency and Lerner has one at his disposal. Everyone would have been upset if we hadn't even talked to him so although its disappointing we need to calm down and wait to see what happens

If the board can be criticised for ANYTHING then I think it would have to be that RL, knowing that there would have to be interviews held for a new manager at the end of the season (they surely knew weeks ago Mcleish would have to go?) should have set aside a fortnight to remain in this country and carry out interviews rather than jet in and out for the odd day? just my opinion!

Villa have not said anything to the press, but are being called a press circus. I don't get the hysteria at all. Ole explained WHY he was helped jet wise to come over and talk.

444, it isn't one sided, it is the truth, I know you don't like that to get in the way of a good moan but after the last manager don't you think they had better get this one right? I've done this for over a decade, I don't need the board or anyone else to write stuff for me. You can apologise for that. I just refuse to get hysterical about an inexperienced Man Utd fan who has only managed for 39 games. Yes, I'd have liked him BECAUSE the majority seemed happy for some reason (and I did keep saying in the forum thread that I'm baffled as to why everyone is jumping on this bandwagon, it seemed strange to me. There are far better / more experienced options out there surely and how patient would the likes of you (who largely moan about everythying on here including the writers and the articles!!!!) have been if Ole came in and was making mistakes through inexperience?

For personal reasons (so you can read into that family don't want to re-locate, pretty obvious when you see where they live) he doesn't want to be in the running any more. Maybe he knew he wasn't top of our list, hadn't been called in for formal talks and was getting pressure from Molde.

to be fair griffgriff, he's not been here just for the odd day and I'm sure they schedule the meetings around his and the potential managers availability and also, surely if some of it is informal talks to sound out people, the CEO can do that? Remember he has a private jet and Americans don't mind the odd commute as they have to drive miles to get anywhere in that country! lol

I would be happy with any of Lambert, Rodgers, Martinez or Poyet but I don't think Ole is out of it yet, watch this space..... Oh and Fear keep up the good work!!

All i'm saying JF is that IMO setting some time aside for AV at this time would have been a good idea. I'm sure at this very moment the CEO is contacting potentials and arranging interviews for when RL arrives back - if he hasn't already!.................sometimes I miss Deadly! lmao

Yeah, I hear you griff, know what you are saying. But they have interviewed, personally I think they are close to choosing and negotiating contract terms. I think the interviews are probably done and dusted by now.

Cant see what all the fuss is about its poor reporting by the media thats causing most of the problems/ Yes along with others I liked the idea of OGS I also liked the idea of Villa boas. Lambert,Poyet. Villa are doing things right they are interviewing a list of candidates its the press who are suggesting OGS was offered the job err no wrong he wasnt no need for any Villa fan to get upset as far as I am concerned OGS was sounded out as I am sure other candidates will be how else do you find out if people are interested in the position?.

If anything it is the fans that have made it worse. The media seem to know of only one meeting (OGS) for certain and therefore have just centred all stories around him. The majority of fans have fallen for it and taken it as gospel that he is the number 1 target and will be here next week. We shouldnt be jumping on any bandwagon and having polls about OGS (or any other manager) when really we havent got a clue who the board want. I dont see why everyone is so upset that it might not be OGS, hes hardly Pep Guardiola is he? I would have been happy with him but as others have said, I'd be just as happy with Lambert or Poyet. Just relax people I'm sure there wont be a U turn from considering a manager like OGS to one like Bruce/McCarthy. Although I do seem to remember a certain club going from Martinez to Eck .........

Apologies then Fear. No-one is questioning your ability as an editor or writer of articles etc. HOWEVER, you only decided to come out and really have a go at Eck when you knew that he was going. The board have cocked up twice already and now you're sure that they don't want to do it again. What makes you think that they're capable of doing it properly??? The site used to be impartial but you are siding with the board over most things.... I never used to moan under MON. Things are poor under the current regime. True that they got rid of Eck as soon as the season finished but in all seriousness, did they have a choice?? Minimal ST sales, dire performances and increasingly going downhill. They can win me round with Lambert, Martinez or Poyet or similar but wouldn't be suprised if we get stitched up again. Sorry if I don't share your "Villa and their board are the best regardless" attitude but I'm a realist and actions speak louder than words. All they've done so far is run a taxi service via jet for OGS.

No 444, it's called balance and using the marbles God gave you. Do you really think, despite the club saying we are interviewing and despite Ole saying there were other candidates to interview, that we've only spoke to one person (in an informal chat, not even a formal meeting)?

The positive out of all this is while the press were focused on Ole and only Ole, imagine what the club have been able to do privately - which is exactly how they would've liked to do things.

And ps Aspinall as I know you've ignored it on the forum, Randy sent his jet to make life easier for Ole who would've otherwise had to plane hop and do more travelling, especially as he's in the middle of a season. It was a courtesy, so he didn't miss more time at training.

LOL Mike, so you know that they've spoken to others or do you know that they've been turned down by others?? Some on here were absolutely adamant that Eck was never going to come to us in a million years but we all know what happened. I like others am very worried about what may happen next AND with good reason seeing their past record. I also like others was very positive and excited about the prospect of having OGS but it's just very strange that he decided to come out now and say that he's definitely not coming. Tend to think that there's been more dialogue and he doesn't like what he's heard even though (as you keep repeating ) he's not been offered the job yet. This is definitely the best Villa site around and I didn't mean to get your backs up but this article was telling us something which we can't disagree or debate with and it's only an opinion as we DEFINITELY don't know exactly what happened. Remember the "did they offer Wally with the brolly an interview, didn't they." They lied to us and then Wally told us that we'd been fooled. They could easily fool us again and that's what's made me cynical more and more so over the last 2 years.

Well the club have said other candidates, even Ole confirmed other candidates so all things being equal I would to think we have and are speaking to other candidates. Wally was talking himself up. As for Ole he's just basically confirmed he wasn't offered the job and he removed himself from contention for family reasons. As said, I believe (because of the mess in Norway over this) the club told him he wasn't in the running for the job, so Ole is repairing bridges and the press conference that just took place confirmed that with how fluffy it was and the language used.

Or do you think it's more believable that the club would leave Ole out to dry when all they wanted to do was meet him for the first time to see if he would be somebody we would entertain for the job?

And mate there's being cynical and then there's being polemic and picking on every tiniest thing you can to berate the board for. If Ole was our number 1 he'd be here by now, or do you also believe he and his wife really only got round to discussing returning to their Bramall roots on Monday?

I've answered to worse lol Eck made us look silly and so did the appointment, no argument from me there. If Randy doesn't get this right I'm worried, but with the seeming shortlist, Paul's words and 'type' of manager we are looking at if we judge from OGS I'm confident he won't repeat that mistake this time round.
