Manager Speculation Round Up

To see out the night cleanly, there are a few more links to Martinez and even a mention of Gareth Southgate in the papers today.

Martinez - Forum Thread

The People suggest that Randy Lerner and Paul Faulkner spoke with the Wigan manager prior to the meeting with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and they have an un-named and unquoted club source saying the job is Roberto's if he wants it. But add that he refused to commit to us until he had heard the plans of the Liverpool owners.

Southgate - Forum Thread

They also state that we have sounded out former centre half Gareth Southgate. Again nothing in terms of substance for this link either.

Lambert - Forum Thread

They also say we have cooled our interest in the Norwich manager.

But back to Martinez -

Click Lancashire suggest that Martinez would actually prefer a job offer from our goodselves, than Liverpool. They say we spoke to him on Thursday - which would tally with meeting him prior to OGS - and that the discussions were positive.

Now it differs slightly from the People report, because it implies Martinez is seriously considering us over the Scousers as opposed to the implication I read into him wanting to here what Liverpool's plans were - but that could just be me seeing too much into things.

ole for me... People go on about Wigan's great run when backs against the wall, but fail to remember that Wigan had a run of 8 loses in a row to get them into that mess in the first place, would the Villa faithful have stayed quiet with that on display? I doubt it. Give Solkjaer the opportunity.

Southgate? Who left because Boro were a 'bigger club'? No chuffin way. And as for Martinez who ***ked us of last year, have we got NO pride?

Southgate?!?! Bring back McLeish - lol. Agree with onlyteaminthemids. Southgate left us to join a "bigger" club in Boro, and he should never have a role within the Villa again. End of.

Must say I like the idea of OGS, was a bit dissapointed when the yellow band appeared on sky news Saturday saying he was not coming. Now who knows? we will see what this week will bring if anything? COTVABU

No chance Southgate. SSN sources understand the job is Mick McCarthy's if he wants it. He has been seen in the vicinity of Villa Park. Reports suggest that a local resident spotted Mick emerging from a nearby establishment with a steak and kidney pie and chips and Karl Henry. The resident first became aware of their presence when Henry took his legs from under him. Mick was heard to mutter as he walked away "Tha' were nowt wrong with that challenge. He took the ball.....well both of them actually"

I keep checking to see if there any updates! Come on Randy, sign up Ole! Haven't felt this excited about the Villa for a long time! Can't wait to return to Villa Park in August despite the 3 and a half hours drive one way from west Wales to watch the Mighty Villa! Happy days! Up the Villa

Either Ole or Lambert for me...75% for Ole..25% for Lambert..but happy with either...more excitement with Ole, but perhaps a little more know how and realism with Lambert...Just get it done one way or the other!

And Lambert has such a great track record ???? OGS is the man. If your going for track record in the PL, then surely it has to be Raneri, Moyes, Dalglish or Benitez and none of those would come with no money to spend. There is no proof that any of the other contenders would make a success, because none of the others mentioned in the "Latest Villa Manager Odds" have managed a team as big as Villa with fans as Fickle as those who support our team.

From the outside it's impossible to tell who the best candidates are. RDM was sacked by West Brom and has just won the CL taking over from AVB who was Europe's hottest property and got sacked in his first season! Guardiola had never managed any team before Barcelona, so how does anyone know how he'd do at another club?

All the people saying Paul 'Mon part 2' Lambert are the same people who probably same people who thought mcleish would change his defensive ways last season before he was appointed. Fact is Lambert would bring nothing knew to the club and will not add anything new after he leaves if he was to get the job. theres no philosophy to be instilled by managers like him on all levels at our club. Unless our club sells most of our short flair youngsters and get in big grafting future grant holts of this world. What lasting legacy did mon leave at Villa after his departure? What lasting philosophy will Lambet leave at norwich after he leaves? nothing thats the answer Martinez left a lasting philosophy at Swansea same as he will at wugan after he keaves. Use your football brains ppl
