Villa Progress In Soccer Sevens

Villa Progress In Soccer Sevens

With all this manager malarky you could be forgiven for forgetting that their was some football today. The Hong Kong Soccer Sevens returned in style, and so did our youngsters!

Academy and Reserve starlets Siegrist, Nelson-Addy, Caira, Cameron, Johnson, Barton, Taylor, Grealish, Lewis and Webb kicked off their group stage games this afternoon and secured us an expected qualification to the final 8 stage.

Doesn't matter how far you travel, football remains local and we now face Leicester City in the quarter finals of the tournament after finishing in second place in Group D with two wins and a loss from the opening three games.

Daniel Johnson and Connor Taylor take the plaudits for today's action with both of them scoring twice as we beat Hong Kong FC 2-1 and HKFA Dragons 3-1.

Typically Newcastle pipped us 1-0 in the other group game.

The Leicester clash takes place on Sunday and kicks off (British time) at 4.50am.

Stooopid! lol Yeah Jase they are over in Hong Kong mate, hence the non friendly UK times of the games. We normally do reasonably well with quarters and semi's but off the top of my head can't remember when we won it last actually.

Mike, we won it in 2008 and 2010. Barry Bannan was player of the tournament in 2008.
