Why Panic. Ole Hasn't Been Offered Anything YET

I don`t understand the panic at the moment.
Villa said this week:

'The Aston Villa board has embarked upon an interview process which will lead to the appointment of a new manager.`

It is obvious isn`t it? We lose a manager, we get another, to do that, we talk to several and then decide!?

Anyway, this Ole Gunnar Solskjaer one. Looks like the UK press, being the UK press, are wide of the marks in their interpretation anyway, and Collymore on Twitter didn`t get his facts straight either (and has now apologised)

As I said early, Ole HAS NOT TURNED DOWN ANYTHING because he hasn`t, as yet, been offered anything.

Do we really not want our board to talk to other candidates before deciding who is best?

Our very own Villan Of The North (yup, he lives in Norway) explained the Ole quotes:

The translation gets across much of the meaning but it's incomplete, it misses out Solskjær's own quotes where he says that he's sorry for the way it's all come out, communication could have been better, he wants to focus on his job at Molde, he has not been offered a job and has two years left on his contract at Molde and expects to keep to it.

However, he does also say that should Villa want to talk to him again or offer him a job he would have to address the situation as and when it arises.

I read that as no decisions have been made either way and OGS will only make one once presented with a chance.

Thanks Villan!

Tweet from his Norwegian strike partner....who was interviewed yesterday on SSN about OGS.

Jan Aage Fjortoft ?@JanAageFjortoft

My feeling: If Aston Villa offer Solskjær the job, Solskjær is Villa- manager 1st of June. #avfc #talksport

Are we seriously at the stage where we panic if Ole doesn`t take the manager job?!

And do you seriously not enjoy all this? I love the ducking and diving, the ups and downs of the odds etc, I think it is great fun. More fun quite often than when the actual manager is appointed!

All well and good but who the F**K does Randy think that he is??? No-one wanted to come last year so we got stuck with you know who. We don't just interview 10 people and then choose. We need to make sure that they want to work here and under what budget Randy??? Wonder if we've got any credible applications for it??

stan collymore has proven himself to be a complete idiot once again. if we don't get him in - then it LOOKS like he has turned us down because of our wonderful UK Media. Villa should know this - and if it WAS INFORMAL - don't send a jet and bring his wife and agent with him!!!! my god it reeks of us defo gunning for OGS (no pun intended) already mates are ripping me about him turning us down - thats how the public will see it. its once again bad PR for us - UNLESS we bring him on board. OGS is our FIRST choice candidate clearly by these actions formal or informal!!

It was meant to be kept quiet. If it had of been, then it might have been an option. But all the planespotters and obsessive blogging on the solskjaer informal meeting and it resulting, unquestionably, in his appointment has brought it right into the public domain, *****ing off Molde and their backers. Solskjaer will stick with them now. It won't happen. fingers crossed for Lambert

Maybe that's why Ole has gone cold and ruled us out. Surely, you'd think that you were going to get an offer if your wife and agent got picked up in a shiny fancy private jet to be summoned for a meeting??? All they did was have a chat!!! WTF were they chatting about. It's common knowledge that randy and Faulkner don't know anything about football so maybe it was inside info on the price of fish ???

Having read the BBC interpretation of the what Solskjaer said, I think he would take the job were it offered. But I think interviewing other makes perfect sense, particularly Lambert, and is the right thing to do. Though, a decision needs to be made relatively quickly.

its worth noting that the Molde board went pretty far in blaming OGS for what happened with regards to Røkke, and him pulling the plug on the club. I honestly believe that if OGS is offered the job, he will take it, as that was the signals he gave during the press conference. Regards from a Norwegian speaker

No need for alarm bells yet, keep calm, we could be talking about a proper process this time, which must happen to prove to us that lessons have been learnt. Also, there can't be any accusations that Villa were snubbed by anyone, strengthening the new mans position from day 1. OGS is still in the game, Fjortoft on twitter earlier thinks he is waiting for an offer, SSN have changed their angle on the story completely since lunchtime. We must have a little faith no matter how hard that might be.

I personally think all this is really exciting. Far more excitement than we saw down VP last season where I actually fell asleep during one match (I had een awake for over 24 hours after a marathon shift at work!!). No ones snubbed no one. I would love it if we talk to all the potential candidates (especially Rogers after he turned down a chat with LFC) my favourites are in the following order 1. OGS 2. AVB 3. PL

Its a routine interview process which anyone old enough to have applied for a job would recognise. Candidates put forward their CV, head hunters and recruitment agents cold call people who they think might fit the bill and a short list of who to call for interview is drawn up. You then interview the candidates without discussing salary as you want the right person for the job. Criticising Lerner for following a proper process and making sure he gets the right man rather is laughable

LOL, probably true, Randy has got Faulkner to ring the local jobcentre or recruitment agency. Must be the way that Eck turned up. Couldn't look further than down the road.

How stupid do you have to be to give any credence to what SSN and/or Talksport dish up. The only people making themselves look dumb are the ones reacting to shoddy lazy gutter press journalism. Just refocus on the knockers on page three and give your brains a rest.

telfordvilla, I was making the very point that SSN did a 360 turn with their story to show how wrong they can get it sometimes. The best place for the truth is right here!

You can read or listen to as much media as you like but always remember the truth is barely relevant in their world. They just want something to talk about. They want readers or listeners to react to headlines to make the story grow, doesnt matter if its true or not as long as it grabs attention. The only place for the truth is where its written by people who actually care about the subject and that is a 'fans' website. By the fans for the fans. etc etc. (even then you might want to wait till it's 'official'. ie in the shirt/on the pitch.

444 .. who does randy think he is? I guess he thinks he is the guy who has put £220m into the club? The guy who if he gets it wrong again will be protested against. So... well, I reckon a bit of time and patience and a proper look at our best option is reasonable?!
