The www.dailymail.co.uk report says that Roberto Martinez is Liverpool`s favourite still ... ok, not so interesting to us that bit, but they also say he spoke with Villa on Thursday.

If he did speak to us on Thursday, it must of been by phone, surely? Dave Whelan also didn't come out and say he'd given Aston Villa permission to speak to Martinez.....strange.

not like Whelan to be quiet but then, I think last year, it was some time after we asked to speak to him that Whelan started in the press.

Rubbish. If we had spoken to him, Whelan would have cried by now screaming that we're not a big club, not big enough for the Wigan manager and blah blah blah. I don't want him, he rejected us last year. Even if it was out of loyalty (I think it was more about avoiding the wage bill mess) then he shouldn't be offered the job again now that we're in a better financial position. I think most want OGS now, and I think we'll get him. I hope we don't get Martinez anyway, he's massively overrated.

I don't think Whelan likes the mighty Villa that much, maybe over the Nzog drama. + he also said Martinez deserves a bigger club then Villa.. Yep we are only little, tiny, Wigan are huge!

You can be sure the media shy Whelan would be shouting from the roof tops if there was contact. By the way did I not read a quote from Whelan back in Jan when it looked like Wigan were doomed that come the summer it would be time for Martinez to leave Wigan? I think he implied that even if they survived that the time would be right. COTVABU

I would be happy with OGS or Martinez. I think either of them would do a good job at Villa. Don't take out your frustrations at Whelan's seeming lack of respect for us, on Martinez. from what i have seen he has acted with dignity throughout speculation, both this season and last.
