Daily Mail Say Villa Have Spoken To Martinez

Our latest poll (bottom right hand side of the page) asks your opinion on Martinez as manager...

A very brief snippet of this report relates to Aston Villa!

The www.dailymail.co.uk report says that Roberto Martinez is Liverpool`s favourite still ... ok, not so interesting to us that bit, but they also say he spoke with Villa on Thursday.

If he did speak to us on Thursday, it must of been by phone, surely? Dave Whelan also didn't come out and say he'd given Aston Villa permission to speak to Martinez.....strange.

not like Whelan to be quiet but then, I think last year, it was some time after we asked to speak to him that Whelan started in the press.
The Fear
Rubbish. If we had spoken to him, Whelan would have cried by now screaming that we're not a big club, not big enough for the Wigan manager and blah blah blah. I don't want him, he rejected us last year. Even if it was out of loyalty (I think it was more about avoiding the wage bill mess) then he shouldn't be offered the job again now that we're in a better financial position. I think most want OGS now, and I think we'll get him. I hope we don't get Martinez anyway, he's massively overrated.
astvil123
Not convinced by Martinez and his hype.
Stig
I don't think Whelan likes the mighty Villa that much, maybe over the Nzog drama. + he also said Martinez deserves a bigger club then Villa.. Yep we are only little, tiny, Wigan are huge!
Blitz
I find it insulting that whelan thinks martinez is too good for villa - yea... RIGHT. after that i hope liverpool get martinez and you watch as they finish mid-table with their overrated players they have got
villa4life87
You can be sure the media shy Whelan would be shouting from the roof tops if there was contact. By the way did I not read a quote from Whelan back in Jan when it looked like Wigan were doomed that come the summer it would be time for Martinez to leave Wigan? I think he implied that even if they survived that the time would be right. COTVABU

I would be happy with OGS or Martinez. I think either of them would do a good job at Villa. Don't take out your frustrations at Whelan's seeming lack of respect for us, on Martinez. from what i have seen he has acted with dignity throughout speculation, both this season and last.

Let me guess; "They come over here, taking out football management jobs.."

Wigan play football??? Thought it was a rugby town in the middle of nowhere with only 5 fans!!!
Villan444
Yeah we spoke to him - "don't bother applying Roberto, we've diced with relegation once, and didn't like it"
BigFatRon
This undoubtedly sounds arrogant, and please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that maybe my article criticizing Martinez may have had some influence in Villa fan's opinion of him hence the drop in his site poll ratings from last week? Or have the fans opinion of him always been this low? http://www.astonvilla.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=7512191

Bick your article was very biased your personal attack on Martinez character was unfounded. which u entitled to your opinion fair enough still it was on the edge of being disgusting to read. Martinez his not Whelan some of you lost should stop your ridiculous comments just because you want the grafting big target man Grant Holt kick and rush football we got under Mon that Lambert can bring. Quite frankly others like are past it we had enough of it under Mon and we dont want it like so stop your biased personal attacks on Martinez
