Club Statement On Manager Search

Aston Villa have released a brief statement following the speculation and confirmation of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as a person of interest in the press.

The statement on the Official Site reads as follows:

'The Aston Villa board has embarked upon an interview process which will lead to the appointment of a new manager. This process will be focused and consistent with the board's objectives which are to secure a manager who can help to reinvigorate the club and bring some vibrancy back to Villa.

'We are aware that certain individuals have been linked with our managerial vacancy but, out of respect to all potential candidates and any clubs they may currently be employed by, we will not discuss specific individuals by name. We will update supporters when we have more news.'

I think we can all guess at the short list of names they'll be working through.

I think today was a case of dipping toes in the water to guage fans reaction after the last debacle and it seems that majority welcome an innovative move so should be an interesting week or so.

Just to add i think it would be remiss to sound out just one candidate but i think a benchmark has been established today. utv

Still convinced they will appoint Lambert. Especially as Holt looks as though he's on his way
spilltheclaret
name one manger that has had "talks" with owners and clubs and never came? there aint many - he is coming
villa4life87
So it looks to be between Lambert and OGS, my money would be on OGS but i don't win that much on bets personally lol, either one i would be happy with, its just nice to see Randy looking to sort this club out and want to add some excitement back at Villa, last season was a wake up call, and seems to have brought Randy and co and fans closer together on the same side and thinking, UTV!
ClivetheVillan
It was all part of Randy's master plan. Hire McLeish to do the cost cutting and take all the blame then release him for a minimal fee for being so poor, leaving us free to hire a good manager.....sneaky bugger!
son_of_cher
Would be nice to see what potential boss has in mind for us and the direction/players etc. Still, we all look forward to a fresh challenge and a new, much better manager either way.If this is the REAL start to a 5 yr plan then as fans we must do our bit and have faith and nerve to not be fickle and get massively behind the manager. Will we ever lose the fickle tag? Maybe a discuss point if not already done. I'm staying positive anyway. UTV. VTID.

Son of Cher youve got it they have been rumbled I've always thought That must have been the reason for hiring the idiot !
Homeandaway
Randy this is the way to go about your business, 5 billion times better than the last joke of a manager search, keep up the good work and welcome Ole, can't wait for him to sign

Seems like a two horse race at the moment, but perhaps Lerner has another trick up his sleeve. Hopefullythis time next week we'll be wondering what new players the new manager aims to bring in.

Villa4life87 ok: Martinez
daveyboyr
Martinez never spoke with us...he flat out rejected the opportunity too.
los_angeles_villan
You've wetted our appetite Mr Lerner ... now go and get OGS signed up.
Eddy1
Mat kendrick says Villa want OGS and that OGS wants Villa just a case of making it happen, easier said then done!!!!!!!
astonsteve
Wow. Just watched 'Gunning for Glory' documentary on YouTube...what an inspiration he'll be! I've got everything crossed that he'll come.
olofthegreat
Randy is acting very ponsily if he doesn't want OGS. He's put him out big time by dragging him over here when they've got a game tomorrow and I'm sure that they wanted the world to know about this after the last ***** up with Eck. Randy could've popped over there. Can't see them going for anyone else now unless the interview was a disaster. Saying that, are Randy and Faulkner capable of interviewing someone for this position?? HELL NO. Randy just wants someone who will call him "Mr. Lerner SIR," and is more worried about whether they get on as to what they know about football, therefore he must have had some good advice, or infiltrated some supporters sites (there's a few new guys on here very recently, I wonder??) OGS was the first on the list though, Randy is going to look stupid if we don't get him. He clearly isn't capable of employing the right man through interviewing as proven with Eck.
Villan444
I just hope we don't appoint KMac, the club really needs to be reinvigorated with some fresh blood.
SchoolBoyError
He's gone back out in price! please bring him in Randy (OGS) we're all behind this appointment.
eltoro
Well done Randy and Paul - love what you've been doing this week.
ASPINALL
Think most fans would be happy with either Lambert or OGS - i know i would be!
