Norwegian Club Confirm Villa's Talks With Ole!

So it does appear that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is flying over to have talks with Randy Lerner and Paul Faulkner.

The official site for his hometown Norwegian club Molde says:

Molde Football Club is aware of interest and contact from Aston Villa, and is aware that Aston Villa and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are talking together.

(Google translation, so bear in mind that is a rough translation)

It does confirm talks are happening, I assume that means they have granted permission.

As everyone knows, Randy sent his plane over to Norway and Ole is flying over for talks.

Our forum thread is surprisingly chipper!

Interesting. A huge gamble, but at least the chairman has now started to take the fans opinion on board.

Pah... who needs options?
DeanoVilla
Great news, and at last a bit of real excitement. At least the negative voices are only a small minority. "Not enough experience, he loves Man U too much, he'll be off in a few years etc." Bah!
Stephen Jay Hawkings
He'll sort our forward line out and nobody will be going 20+ games without scoring ... hope its a done deal today.
Eddy1
Who knows, maybe in a few years' time we'll be in a position where United isn't the greatest option! Again though, he will need time and encouragement from all of us (if we get him). Hope he gets it.
mmlozza
I think he'll do well, nice chap and he'd obviously be a massive step up from you know who. The only reason I'm reluctant is because if he does do well all we'll ever hear about is 'next Man U' manager and they'll probably be right.
SchoolBoyError
Done deal today?..... I'd be happy next Monday or Tuesday. He may need the weekend to think things over with family etc. But it's sounding good.
Pride of Lions
Most excited I've been about a Villa manager since, er...never! You are my Solksjaer! UTV
olofthegreat
id say OGS is about 10 years away from the united job!!! mourinho will be up for man u job and if anyone thinks that he won't go for it you must be having a laugh! OGS will have to wait a long time before coming MAN U manager. Mourinho is first in line for that FOR SURE
villa4life87
Hope people realise this is an interview process, they won't just fly him over and announce him. Next week though maybe!
The Fear
Fear - you watch now as you have just said that, they will account at 5pm haha
villa4life87
Could be insane. Could be inspired. It might be somewhere in-between! It's certainly different and might be exciting. Excuse me while I sit on this here fence.
Cheshire Villan
I hope this is a done deal. Great news.
Blitz
I think this is really exciting if it happens. Let's please get behind him and give him time (again if it happens). I've read and watched quite a few articles and videos since this news broke yesterday (as I'm sure many of us have) and they've all made me even more excited. Yes that "Gunning For Glory" video is a little bit like Man Utd propaganda but everyone has nothing but positive things to say about the guy. I wonder if he'd give his old pal Dwight Yorke a role, giving us that Villa connection that so many want. I know I'm sold on the idea and will probably renew my ST if this happens (much to the annoyance of my girlfriend.) ;)
Adam Deuce
I really cant deci whether this is an inspired appointment (if it happens) or another act of stupidity in not appointing a manager who knows the English game from a managerial perspective. my feeling is a little that he os a huge gamble and that isnt something you should be looking to do at this time
oxfordspur
Great move!!! Our squad is full of young youth players. Imagine what Albrighton, Clark... must be thinking driving at 9AM knowing that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is taking training!!!!!!
VILLA 4 LIFE
Ive been buzzing all week now im buzzing even more, Randy old fella if you get OGS you have proved that you can be creative and brave whilst listening to us fans in what we wanted at Villa a new hope a new style of play and some kind of ambition or building project, something to aim for in the near future, really happy can't wait for the new season and all the new transfer signings etc im buzzzzzzzzzzzzin!!!UTV!!! UTV!UTV
clivethevillan
Will be shot for this, but got to agree with Oxfordspur. That said, my track record of supporting DOL, MON and (grudgingly) AMc as managers hasn't got us anywhere, so let's hope he proves me wrong. Certainly amazed by the rare show of unity on these pages. If he gets it, we've all got to stay behind him, not assassinate him the minute we get a hiding from someone.
onlyteaminthemids
lol@ villa4life87, too right! ;o) But no... seriously!
The Fear
Some of the fans on here do my head in. Why are you all so negative. Surely this shows Randy is listening to the fans. Yes its a gamble cus he has no premier league experience but then neither did Wenger when he arrived at Arsenal. The fact that he is ex Man U should have nothing to do with it, He has a winning mentality, made a huge impact when coming off the subs bench and if he can instill some of that into our Forward line and attacking Midfield players - Albrighton, Nzog, Bannan and Ireland, then maybe we can increase on our goal a game average. I just think its a no brainer and a gamble worth taking. Tell me which experience PL mgr would come to Villa after the season we had and with little to no money to spend. Or would you rather have a has been - Dalgleish, Rafa, Curbishley ? I know which i'd prefer. Give me Solskjaer, Di Canio or Zola any day. Young up and coming managers who know how to put the ball in the net NOT boring ex-defenders like McCleish, O'neal or O'leary. Come on you Villa fans - Get behind this and let worry about what he can do for the Villa in the next 4-5 years NOT about when he will leave us for better things.
tvrwhitey
Exactly onlyteam... He's allowed a few mistakes/learning process games as he's still young, NOT 50 odd like Eck who should've known better and was incapable of changing his prehistoric stubborn backwards ways!!! Please hurry up and sign him so I don't have to keep moaning about Eck, saying that, there's a fair few that still go on about MON all the time.....
Villan444
The more I think about this the more I like it. He could be exactly what we need. Key may be though getting a good assistant in alongside him. Any thoughts on who this might be? Would love to think it could be Laursen but can't see it happening ...
ByEck
As a compromise, perhaps his assistant should be someone old and crusty - I'm getting too old and crusty myself to see everyone on Villa's bench younger than me.
onlyteaminthemids
Although untried in the league, this one could be a great appointment. My only reservation is does he have the 'mettle' to manage our misfits? If he does, then he'll be a perfect fit. As fans, lets ALL agree whoever we get to give them minimum 1 season to show us what they can do.
thorpyuk
im all for this appointment but only problem i have is can he handle the villa ego's collins dunne ireland etc
marshyboy87
collins, dunne, etc are only around for another year. And it'll be get in shape or ship out. Simple as. Baker looks like a good defender in the making (not quite there yet but smalling isn't either!!) plus clarke. OGS I'm all for it.
maigrait
Big step from Norwegian football to the Premier League. Just let's be aware that he was a great player and has got the coaching badges. Remember the Frenchman, forget his illness, he didn't do anything for us really - and he worked with Liverpool before us. Think Randy might be just keeping us on the back burner. Being suspicious of the way he and Faulkner have performed over the last couple of years, it is more likely we'll be getting someone from he lower leagues.
AVFCinOz
Regarding the ego's apparently he's not averse to dishing out the treatment. Probably been at the receiving end of the hairdryer at some point.
cynicalone
Any room on that fence cheshire villain? Lerner and co must have been looking around and thinking about this for some time, and hopefully taking some advice. This is a real gamble, and one I support in principle. But how long will the fans give him (me included of course)? It's huge gamble for him too. His career could be over before it starts if he messes up at Villa.
144wittonlane
Nice guy AND good manager. Has Randy learnt his lesson after only getting half last time.
Villan444
Like many, I am not too sure what to think about this. Certainly a surprise. But there is a (big) part of me that is quite excited about it all. Just somehow feels right.
Beovilla
What a suprise, 'OxfordSpur' is on here again, giving his valued opinion!. Mate, we don't give a rats ass what you think. I reckon you are a secret Villa fan, who is feeling a bit left out of any decent banter in your own area. Stick to your own site, your opinion is about as valued as that of alex Mccleish!. Personally, i think OGS is well worth a punt, the vast majority of Villa fans will be right behind him and ready to roar the Villa on next season. Come on you Villa boys!!!
