'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Big Ron, many of us Villa fans love you, but on this one... you are wrong sir!

Villa did not treat McLeish harshly, McLeish treated Villa harshly.

a) He should have known better and not made the trip over the city
b) The SHOCKING Facts For Villa's Season
c) for the above link alone, he should have made it easy on the board WHO STUCK THEIR NECKS TOTALLY OUT FOR HIM and resigned.
d) The majority of fans were fair with Eck, some were abusive and some to a level that isn`t healthy for him, the club or the fans to have to hear but most tried their level best to put up with the anti football and all the excuses in the world re: injuries won`t wash, we weren`t winning with a full squad either!

Big Ron told BBC Sport that McLeish was never given a chance.

13 internationals, Darren Bent up front? Gabby who has also played for England? (Who he promised not to put on the wing then put him on the wing) Given in goal? Zoggy (HIS player) on the wing (shame he put him on the wrong wing and fell out with him) need I go on? Probably not. I am NOT trying to lay the boot in (although I do think he could have left with some dignity if he had resigned for the mess to be fair) but if the press keep reporting this sort of thing, the fans have a right to talk back.

Where was the fairness to the Villa faithful?

'From day one, he's been swimming upstream,' Atkinson told BBC Radio 5 live. 'I think there's a big hangover from the fact he came from Birmingham.'

NO NO NO. Ron, please, you are meant to be 'one of us` you are meant to understand! This is just lazy press ignorance and you`ve fallen for it like the rest. It is insulting to us fans.

An illustration as to why it is nothing to do with Blues?

People in the Vital Villa forum have said they would be more than happy with Chris Hughton! Click Here

Read this again press/Big Ron/anyone else thinking we were anti due to Blues: The SHOCKING Facts For Villa's Season

Also, as stated to the Press Association: Villa fans: McLeish tactics to blame

'I don't think he's been given a fair crack of the whip. If he'd come straight down from Rangers, everyone would have said he's a great signing for them.'

Not sure. There is a Rangers forum thread that absolutely slates Eck. Eck has a 23% win percentage in the Premiership. TWENTY THREE PERCENT.

Come on Ron, you were / are a winner, you`d be embarrassed by that win rate?

Ron right adds that there is some re-building to do and adds, 'They need some stars there, because the fans love that - they want to see players that add a bit of glitter to their weekend."

But is this totally fair? 'All they've seen this year is a manager having to work with some very ordinary, mundane players. It's the most bereft Villa team I've seen since the start of the Premier League."

When I along with 4 or 5 other fans met Alex last summer, he said he was excited to work with our quality squad AND the youth players coming through. EXCITED. He promised attacking football 'because I have the personal here to do that`. He knew Ash was going and Downing was not that big a loss as he brought in his own £10m man in his place.

Sad thing, the old boys network seem to believe that Eck isn`t to blame and so does he. Baffling. I just look at the teams above us and wonder how many of their managers would like some of our players in their mix. We aren`t world beaters, we all know we aren`t going to win the league (despite Eck thinking some of us do) but come on, this squad is top ten at the very least.

Need I remind anyone of this: Kevin Keegan Shocked At Awful Performance

With that said, I'll let you off Big Ron, still some of our best days were under your good self! ;o)

Yep, much love for BFR, but wrong on this one, our season really does speak for itself.

Old boys network indeed. Football reporters on Sky all said 'McLeish is a good manager' ... WTF? Where? When? SPL surely doesn't count

media also saying martinez shrugged off links... to me he didn't do very well shrugging it off.. was more of deflection and avoiding it lol.. he is defo favourite i think. regards to ron.. completely wrong and people are saying this because people like him. a whole season is enough to see where you are going.. how many seasons do you need??? if he spent money and failed (very likely) we would be in a worse state of affairs. Lerner has been spot on with this decision

Its sad to say that everyone outside of Villa fans think that this is the case and that he is a good manager? Amazing, I hope he gets another job in the EPL, myabe for whoevers manager we take? We have a better squad player for player than the likes of Swansea, Norwich, Fulham etc. We are not a team that should have survived by 2 points in a league that I believe is of a lower standard than it has been for a long time. Clearly if you watch Villa you would think its the players are not good enough but all of them have proved under other managers that they are better than this!

I think you hit the nail on the head there stating that we don't believe we're champions league but 10th is a reasonable ask from the squad we have. I'd even go as far to say that 14th would've been fine with the injuries etc...

This attitude from the press has been a huge source of frustration ALL season. From where I sit (Upper Holte) there were NO anti McLeish chants until the Sunderland game where there was ONE chant of "***** OFF ALEX" which followed a chant of "***** OF MARTIN". Obviously the following game was Bolton and we all know what happened there. He was given EVERY chance to prove his doubters (of which there were many I admit) wrong. It felt like no one understood how we felt. That was until this only three weeks ago > > Finally, it seemed, someone understood. Big Ron, I have a huge amount of respect for you, under you we played some really exciting football and you we beat Man Utd at a Wembley Final which stopped them winning the treble under you. However on this you are clearly out of step with how we feel.

This was always going to happen, it's just lazy. If you asked most Villa fans if they would have swapped McLeish for Hughton, the resounding answer would be YES. Like a banner said the other week, 'It's not about where you are from, but where you are taking us'. Let them bang on about the Small Heath link, we know the real reasons.....

agreed - mcliesh is history and very forgettable history at that - Martinez is for sure going to be approached again this time around - and lerner will be more aggressive this season and will offer him enough to come on board. maybe I'm wrong but thats my gut feeling of it

What followed was a mess. Villa invited Steve McClaren for an interview but then cancelled on him after an angry backlash from supporters on message boards. Next they tried and failed to lure Roberto Martínez from Wigan Athletic. And then they made the decision which is still hard to fathom to this day, not because McLeish was with Birmingham City, Villa's arch rivals, but because he had just suffered his second relegation in three Premier League seasons and was synonymous with a negative brand of football that leads to draws and a lack of goals. Stuart James.( Guardian ) This Journalist at least agree's with us, the supporters. You can always rely on the Guardian to get it right. I would give my vote to Lambert.Surely they can't mess it up again, can they? Up the Villa.

Sounds like BFR had just come back from Sir Chewalot's drowning your sorrows party. Either that or he's sadly out of touch with football these days. You were good in your day Ron, but best to keep a lid on it now eh?!........

The 'Voice' made it happen. Credit to those at the BBC... sorry I mean the Holte end and on websites, and with the advert in the paper etc..... credit to those who made this happen. 1-0 to the Villa Loyalty

Ron is entitled to his opinion and we are entitled to disagree with him, but the vile accusations that he is either drunk or suffering from Alzheimer's hardly seem to suggest, that it is reason which guides Villa fans.

I have been banging on to every one with the same more or less as you have stated, thank you for putting this on the web. I heard Shearer the other day saying the same kind of things and nearly every time I turn on MOTD they start talking that us Villa Fans only don't like Big Eck because he is an ex blue nose. But I don't think any of the press tossers have been watching the worst ever football at Villa. UTV!!!

Someone please drag Kevin Keegan in front of the cameras and ask him AGAIN what he thought of us at home against Man Utd. The press and motd can bang on all they like about blues but I would welcome Chris Hughton right now as manager. Someone get the press and motd crew to look at the stats on sky last night and sit through all our games this season then say it.

It's what happens when once great men become pundits; laziness sets in. Also typical of the mainstream media, not just in football but in all aspects of what they call "journalism" - lies, spin and nonsense dressed up as "fact" or worse, "opinion". Anyway - McEejit has gone, he was no good, let's get over it and look to the future. I haven't been this optimistic about the Villa for a long time. As the Chinese proverb goes - may you live in interesting times .. UTV
