'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Norwich Draw Their Lines

Norwich City have reacted to speculation about both their players and manager potentially leaving following their success this season and have said the following.

Speaking to BBC Radio Norfolk, CEO David McNally said:

'We would not welcome any enquiry for our football manager or any of the clubs football players. We will do everything we can and fight this as hard as we have ever fought. If I was at another football club and I was looking for another manager he'd be top of my list.'

With Lambert the bookies favourite at the moment, their CEO could well be busy over the summer.

Good. I'd like to think we had our sights set a little higher than Lambert.
You can't blame them and anyway, it talks up the compensation.
thomas holte
LOL all there CEO is saying is if you want him we will fight tooth and nail to get as much compensation out of ya we can lol, jonah why would you not like Lambert m8? He has proved he can work miracles on a tight budget or no money i should say and get Norwich promoted twice in 2 seasons and keep them up in the prem above us easily, i would welcome him as many a Villa fans would lets not get too carried away with expectations here if we get a big name manager great but if we get a Martinez Lambert Rodgers etc lets also get fully behind them and the board and show we just want Villa having a go to try and win football games not to win the league or qualify for the champs league as a gimme we need togetherness and support at Villa know im buzzing and i luv this club and have rekindled faith in Randy and Faulkner not to make the same mistakes again.... UTV!!!!
I'm not sure about Lambert either but lets face it a) any appointment is a gamble even sir chewalot b) anyone is better than the idiot we've just had. Whoever is appointed will get my full support and I'm just glad that I can get my season tickets again
Here Here clive. I just want a quick appointment so we can sort the midfield out!
Yes, a quick appointment is needed. Lambert is the man for me.
Lots of speculation that Villa are ready to pounce....although paddy power have Martinez as favourite, then Lambert abnd Benitez as third favourite
you draw the lines and we will cross them.
Lambert has done well at Norwich, Colchester and Wycombe, but Martinez is out of contract, I think, so no compo.......and he has more PL experience. However, would AVB or Capello be worth going for????
people anyone after McClueless will be a godsend. never again do i want to see us set up to roll over!
Randy bollox
Madirish, I don't think Cappello would be a feasible option but I agree he would be worth considering providing of course he could be persuaded to vacate his position as Postman Pat's stunt double.
Rowley Villa
I hear Dean Saunders is interested. Please no!
Martinez has consistently over- achieved with whatever he has been given. Other names I would support too, but Martinez has the most Premier League and managerial experience of the favourites. Please come and over-achieve and entertain at Villa!
Surely it's inevitable. A couple of years working with Delia is enough to drive anyone away.
back to back promotions is the hallmark of a good manager. Not easy to do.
If we appoint Capello does he bring his black and white cat with him or? Only problem with appointing Capello is he is up early in the morning when the day is dawning sorry coud not resist the postman pat them tune.
Brendan Rodgers for me
Either Lambert, Rogers or Martinez would get me excited. AVB would be also worth a shout. I'm not so sure about Benitez though - seems to me to be a bit of a chequebook manager, and thats not exactly what we want right now, although i'm certain that this summer there will be a significant budget available to a potential manager, particularly now we're rid of quite a bit of dead wood!
Not Martinez please! His record in the premiership is s hite !
What do you expect Norwich to say? "Yeah, take our manager with pleasure"?
Lambert please back to back promotions with little money he must have a gift plays good football too
Gregory and MON were at Wycombe so bring lambert through after the same schooling. Piper lol. Rogers?? Thought that you were an Eck personal fan club man. How quickly you've changed your tune you deserter Lol.
No sorry, I meant sheep piper. Lol.
Brandon Rogers please
Why do people want Martinez ? He is just one small step above McLeish. Quoting from Wikipedia "On the 28th April, Wigan beat Newcastle United 4-0 at the DW Stadium to move a step closer to ensuring Premier League safety for the seventh time." and the last 2 seasons they have scraped through just like we did. Not exactly a Manager with recent success under his belt. My worry is that it will be a rerun of last June when we had to accept what appeared to be the only candidate. No, I want a Manager who is hungry for success not someone year after year fighting of Relegation.
I cannot believe the negativity towards Martinez. Sure Wigan struggle every year but they are the size of Walsall yet they play great football but have a goalscoring problem because they will never have a 24m striker. Just keeping them in the Prem is a miracle year on year despite having to sell any decent players they find. Martinez simply goes and finds another star for Manure or Spuds to poach. Martinez has a superb scouting network in Spain and South America. His teams always entertain and he laid the foundations at Swansea too for Rodgers to build on. Same style of play, exciting, entertaining never sets out to draw. Whoever we get will not be everyones first choice. Time to unite behind whoever it is.
couldn't agree more Telford.
I have two problems with Martinez Telford. 1/ He's alreasdy refused an interview with us before. 2/ If he can get his teams to battle out of the relegation positions every season, why can't he get them performing like that at the beginning of the season. If he could, they'd be pushing for Europa League every season.
Pride of Lions
So TelfordVilla what you are saying we should hire Martinez so we can continue to struggle and sell our best players to the successful clubs ? Norwich is about the same size as Walsall so on that basis Lambert would be acceptable. Wigan struggle every year because the Manager and his coaching staff , who no doubt he would bring are not up to making Wigan a stable Premiership side. Just because we have gotten rid of McLeish it does not follow that the new manager will have millions to splash around. Martinez is a Manager of a poor side and if he stays at Wigan then they will be favorites to be Relegated. If he comes to the Villa then we may as well have kept McLeish. Just my humble opinion.
Pride, Martinez refused to talk to us last year because he is an honourable man and loyal to his favorite club, the club which bought him to England and gave him his chance. Good qualities I would have thought. The situation may have changed slightly now as I heard he was out of contract this summer and he did have a small fallout with his chairman a couple of months ago (quickly patched up though). As for only performing at the end of the season. New players take time to bed in to their system and as they have new key players each year to replace the 'stars' of the previous season this is a repeating problem. He may hope to stay at Wigan with the current squad and they should be comfortably mid table if they all stay. Villa have no such stability so we should all be very grateful if he decides to risk it and join Villa. No negativity 100% support required.
Martinez or Lambert will be acceptable to me. Both very good managers on small budgets, just what the Villa job will be. McLeish was never a good manager and should never have been appointed. Both Martinez and Lambert have excellent track records.
Before we get carried away on the manager merry go round, does anyone remember what Alan Pardew was doing in November 2010? Worth thinking about that before any candidate is dismissed out of hand
