McLeish Expects To Stay... I Think NOT

I asked last week of Alex McLeish Where is your dignity?

I think in the press since he has answered very clearly. He hasn`t got any. Or is he really deluded enough to think that it can now ever work at Villa?

Virtually ALL of us didn`t want him, that is a given. PLENTY of us, once he came, had the good grace to say we`d give him a chance, albeit, lets be honest, with doom filled heavy hearts!!!!

The season has - in my football expert opinion - not actually been very good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He blames injuries, fine, they have stacked up - much like they did at Blues, is that a coincidence? - but we weren`t winning before the injuries when he had a full squad AND he set us up to roll over many times this season.

Anyway, I`m not sure why he thinks we care what his pal says but he told press yesterday, as quoted by Neil Moxley in The Daily Mail what Sir Alex Ferguson thinks. Sir Alex Chewalot, the man who recommended McLeish to Villa? Well, he`s not going to tell his pal what a hash of it he has made is he? THE WORST HOME STATS ON RECORD... That is reason enough to resign - but you need dignity to do that.

This man is seriously dangerous if he thinks nothing is his fault and that he deserves to stay. Surely he is just posturing for a pay off?

'I spoke to my ex-boss last night and he thought some of the squads below us were stronger than us,' said McLeish, 'that's a measure of where we are at the moment and the number of young kids we have."

Really? Blackburn, Wolves, Bolton and QPR are stronger than Villa? REALLY?

Numptie.

Dave Armitage in The Daily Star has more quotes.

"I`ve been in charge one season. Did anyone expect me to win the league? Come on - I think people have to be more understanding."

Just how disrespectful is this man? NO, NONE of us expected you to win the league, we expected a bit of fight, not the negative anti-football you have produced though. I only have to think of the Spurs away game to want to cry! Top ten would have been fine, but fighting relegation?

He added, "I anticipate being here next season. Yes, we have underachieved for a football club like Aston Villa. But I think people know there have been extenuating circumstances."

The extenuating circumstances are having you as the manager.

He is right, we have missed Darren Bent, he is a £24m striker, but as John Barnes pointed out all that time back v Man Utd, we left him up front, on his own, isolated and the formation didn`t work for the player. We were NOT winning even with a full squad, he has forgotten that fact. We have not done one back to back win all season, he has forgotten that as well.

Anyone remember this? Kevin Keegan Shocked At Awful Performance YOU HAVE GOT A MORAL OBLIGATION TO GO AND TRY TO WIN A GAME AT HOME... In the first half they were inept.

Anyway, if you are looking for crumbs of comfort right now, Mat Kendrick stands by his story that McLeish is off and we also have the Mirrors Villa correspondent James Nursey on Twitter: 'McLeish's views on his #AVFC future will be in Saturday's Mirror after today's presser. Heard and saw nothing to change my view he's doomed'

He is going. He is going because he has to go. There are so many fans holding out for this decision before renewing, so many fans enraged by this season and even more hurt by it. A fresh manager and a new approach can unify this club again, if he remains, next season will be very ugly. Very ugly indeed.

I effing hate him.
Stig
Well said fear, he is gone there is no doubt about it. All he's doing is having a few digs at us and trying to make every excuse under the sun so that maybe just maybe he'll get another job. But I don't think we will ever see him in the prem again, lower league in Scotland would do him fine. Sick of hearing from him, sick of looking at him, sick of everything about him and his poor negative naive attitude. What a waste of a season, bring on Monday.... There's the door
AdzVilla11
I have said during the season that i dislike him as a manager and not as a person. Well now i dislike him as a person. He is an excuse making coward who is out to take his pay off from this club for almost getting relegated. He is a *****.
lerneravfc
you don't need 2 seasons to make a success... bad workmen always blame their tools.. you do the best with what you have got. if you go out to draw... thats the MOST your going to get.. better put to NOT LOSE a game. all he thinks about is how NOT TO LOSE a game...what he hasn't realised is this best way not lose is to go out to WIN. you talk with the football your team produce.. he's produced absolute rubbish for more than one club.. its his style that is absolute disgrace to football. i don't care how nice people think he is - he aint nice.. if he was nice he would realise that villa isn't the right place for him and the fans are making it clear and he should leave. with such an appointment you ONLY have a season to get the fans on side and thats what we gave him... he didn't fail.... its was a TRAIN WRECK!! i still have my doubts he is gone.. hopefully the media gets this one right
villa4life87
I too think you do need more than one season but the fans need to see the green shoots that show there is something there. A way of playing, some hope some encouragement. There is nothing and there's been nothing this season. The football has been appalling at times and his post match blaming of the players practically inept. However I don't blame him on a personal level for not resigning. At the en of the day we were stupid enough to give him a 3 year contract and I'm afraid that needs to be honoured. That's a few million at stake so I suspect there's no way there's going to be any hint from McLeish of anything else. The media soundbites look to me as if his agent has advised him to keep talking to ensure it is completely a Villa decision to leave and that maximum compensation will be payable. Don't have any fear though. He's gone. Absolutely nailed on certainty.

This man is a delusional comical bad joke. Move along you muppet and make way for a real manager
Randy bollox
I hope none of the big teams try to poach him from us.
SchoolBoyError
Sorry Fear but next season is going to be ugly anyway. We are clearing out even more players... Not a single out of contract player has had his contract renewed. Right now which manager in their right mind would come here? We have established a history of selling our best players and our "financial problems" have stopped any chance of us investing heavily. I can see Lerner keeping Mcleish just because there might be no other option.
Astriel
Our squad is far better than those below us and a fair few above. Tactically mcleish has been appauling. The only defense he has is he had little to spend and petrov, jenas and bent had serious injury, illness. By that time we were already struggling. I know Lerner hoped we'd grind this season out and move on but it was worse than that and he must know it.
thekentvillan
This man has absolutely no shame whatsoever! Its a pitty he wont walk... the fact is he will be there next season, most likely till xmas when poor results will mean the sack. If he gets the sack Monday I will gladly streak at Villa Park 1st home game of the season, whilst wearing a ginger wig!
Timmsy
"I`ve been in charge one season. Did anyone expect me to win the league? Come on - I think people have to be more understanding." That is so disrespectful, it just astounds me.
The Fear
Don't think I've ever heard you this angry JP. Agree with every word you say though.
Beovilla
Do one you useless muppet McLeish, really can't stand this joke.
Green Villan
look if its soo difficult to get a new manager I'll do the job for £100,00 per year...seriously.. I might fail but at least I'd blame my own inadequaces for it... I'd also be a damned sight cheaper too...lol...
Metalvillan
I haven't finished reading yet but does anyone else feel so strong in hatred that you wish someone would beat this man until every bone in his body has turned into dust? Sorry to be so violently minded, I had a moment.
Avfc94 we do
Mcleish is full of it, abslolute waiste of space time and money for this club, i still think there is a chance Randy may keep him on due to the cost in sacking him but im hoping he's gone enough is enough now fans have suffered enough don't you think Alex?
clivethevillan
Though I have always felt that his appointment was absolute stupidity, I also have to agree with a few people inc. Fergie in saying that you have a really weak squad of players, who lack depth, experience and quality right throught the team. This isn't a dig at Villa, and anyone who knows me will agree that I don't come on here to take the *****, but it is absolutely true, and though Mcleish could have done far better, a weaker or more attacking manager might have actually got you relegated
Oxfordspur
When he took over, he was asked what his aim for the coming season was. He said to improve on last seasons 9th place finish. By your own admission you've failed, so f!_!ck off. Please! Pretty please with hundreds & thousands on top! And if i hear another pundit say he's the nicest guy in football then i'll explode. If that's the criteria for a good manager then we might as well go for Stacey Soloman or Nelson Mandela as our gaffer. They seem like lovely people. Pr!cks.
tebor1978
Fergie said that teams below us have better squads Ox!!!! Our defence was third best in the league in MON's last year and they're all still here ?? Taarabt is the only player that I'd take from the bottom 3 teams but Eck would still not let him attack. Very few could've done worse, SOOOO many could have done better. Eck should be a bus driver. Or more accurately bus parker as that's all that he's good for. Saying that, he can't even do that properly. If you'd read all the postmatch rubbish and endless excuses that he makes then you'd know exksactly where everyone (eckcept McCock and his mates who just feel sorry for him and don't believe or mean what they say) is coming from. He's only piped up with the latest Eckscuse as Fergie said it. If he'd been saying it all season then he might be more believable. He is looking for any slightest way to worm his way out of doing the honorable thing and falling on his sword. In Japan, he would've committed seppuku years ago for failing miserably. The man is ripping off our club and therefore all the fans by draining money out of us by not doing what it said on the tin that he presented to Randy and then all the fans at the start of the season.
Villan444
The ramblings of sir chewalot are just another ploy to back up his mate and ensure his team get their customary six points next year should the Muppet stay in charge. No villa fan is suggesting we have the greatest squad of players but we would have to be on a par with at the very least with Wigan, Norwich, Swansea, wba, Sunderland to name a few. That said the manager who could be likened to the equivalent of starting each game with a handicap is where our comparable squad then looks inferior to the others mentioned above. This is because the manager we have likes to put 9/10 players behind the ball Has no plan b,c,d or anything other clue other then trying to nick a 1-0 Does not know how to make substitutions Does not know how to train players to retain the ball He also rather bizarrely and delusionally thinks that his teams play dynamic football. As well as thinking that the silent majority are in favour of him. All of which tell you he needs some sort of psychiatric assessment and one way accurate way to not describe him is call him a football manager because he is anything but. If Sir Chewalot thinks he is so great perhaps he can take him on to the coaching staff at his club or better still write a letter recommending him the hierarchy at Old Trafford to be the man to take over once he steps down
Randy bollox
About the squad i really don't quite know what to say as i almost have to agree that we are actually very weak SQUAD wise. I think our 1st eleven without injuries is certainly stronger than many but that was not the quote from Fergie & i think some are confusing the two. Yes our 1st choice 11 is decentish with everyone in form etc but just 1 or two injuries & we are struggling to compete. As a squad i would have to agree that we are as weak as any side in the Premier League. As a 1st eleven i would say we are top 8 to 12 ish. I think this is what Fergie was getting at.
danceoftheshamen
We had the fixtures at the beginning of the season that we all knew where there for the taking, did he? I think not! One of the greatest saying i've ever hear is "the greatest form of defence is ATTACK" i wonder if he's ever heard of it. Continually playing Bent up front by himself was never going to work but he couldn't see it, playing Bannan on the wing just restricted his passing, did he see that? No. Heskey on the wing? Come on Wake up McClueless. Heskey up front by himself, no supporting player for him to link with, let me think, oh yes it ain't going to work. Zonal marking at set pieces wasn't working but did he change it, NO. Just some examples of what i think shows McLeish for what he is, only interested in himself and his own glory. Well his selfishness has done nothing for him or OUR CLUB. I seem to remember earlier in the season he came out with he never quit on any of his jobs. But as far as i can see he's quit on ALL his jobs, Lets hope he keeps up this record and quits at 5pm Sunday 13th May. I'd be on the club website renewing my season ticket within minutes. I don't think i'd be the only one either.
onlyoneteaminaston
oxfordspur, you are often on here. You sound reasonably balanced. But you are always so wide of the mark. You have as much idea about the Villa as I do about piloting trains and driving a plane. Please stick to your site unless you are asked for an opinion. As for those worried that McMuppet will be here next season, please relax. He is gone on Monday or Tuesday. His record should have seen to that, but it is the Season Card sales that have done for him. The fans have spoken and the sound of 20,000 wallets slamming shut woke Randolph from his slumber. We can then only hope that Randolph has learned a harsh lesson. Giving McMuppet a three contract was his error and one that is going to give him a financial kicking. But keeping him would cost more and that is why he is going at the start of next week. Unfortunately the pay off to him and his cronies is with money that should have been going on new players. We then need Randolph to show he can make a good managerial appointment to compliment the rest of the brilliant work he has done for our club since his arrival. As the custodian of our club he has a couple of bridges to build, but nothing that will not be achieved by employing a positive, young, attacking manager and giving him a little financial flexibility. UTV. The 19th minute. Prepared.
voiceoftheholte
it'll be very quiet at villa park if he stays!!!!!
walsallvillan
Oxfordspur you either haven't watched the Villa this season or purely enjoy watching us suffer because that's total tripe mate. Hang on.. You must have watched Spurs v Villa yeah? The game where Eck had the brilliant idea of playing two right backs (Hutton & Cuellar) to tackle the in form Bale?? Brilliant management. It was also that game where we disrespected football in its self for the way we went about our business, poor lackluster negative give up style crap, lost 2-0 should have been 10. Sad thing is we had approached many more games like that. Yeah a new manager will need some funds but NZgogbia, Hutton, Given, Keane, Jenas didn't arrive for free either. The worst manager in premier league history and the worst appointment in premier league history. Eck is gone, Monday will be the day the big ginger cloud over Villa Park will blows away
AdzVilla11
As one of the McLeish's so-called 'silent majority', I would like to break my silence and call upon Lerner to sack McLeish immediately. His brand of joyless football, with full-backs and central defenders stuffing the midfield, is completely lacking in passion and excitement. He has shown no innovation as a coach (we can't score or defend from corner kicks), and he continues to trot out a litany of pathetic excuses. To quote old purple nose saying that some squads (Wolves? Blackburn, QPR? Wigan?) below Villa were better was a complete insult to his own players, and a delusional denial of his role in Villa's crap and uninspiring season. Take your million or so quid and get a job in the Championship where you belong.
itplowe
Matt B i agree with you on that he is holding out for a full pay out the man lacks integrity and his deluded. From when he quit at the blues by email then blamed his wife for suggesting he done it that way i knew from then he lacked class. He believes he has done a great job and should be rewarded. As for crafty Fergie's support from him his just trying to secure 6 points next season its really that simple and hopes Lerner and Faulkner fall for it again. Fergie would love the premiership to be filled with his love children because they guarantee him points none ever do good against him. COME ON MAN CITY BEAT MANURE TO THE TITLE THIS VILLA FAN BEHIND YOU.
Shane Villains
If Lerner really wants to appease villa fans and come out on top against Fergie he should sack Mclueless. Get Martinez who played a role in denying Manure the title this season, then straight after put in a bid cheeky bid for Rio. Even better go straight to Rio's agent his contract is expiring soon he could be this generation's Paul McGrath for us. That would be one hell of a way to appease us villa fans and get back at devious SAF
Shane Villains
Message to the board: Extend Alex's contract by a further two years, give him £50m to spend on players. Ignore the short sightedness above - anyone who thinks that the current team is good enough to beat Man Utd is deluded. OUR CURRENT SQUAD IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH! THE PLAYERS ARE AVERAGE OR WORSE! (APART FROM SHAY AND BENTY!) This is the problem with you lot, you seem to think we should be turning teams over. You were all enraged when we only drew 0-0 away at Wigan - but look at the run they went on. I was proved right when I said they were a good side. Yes, Wigan's players are better than our players. That's how crap players like Collins, Cuellar, Dunne, Bannan, Albrighton, Warnock, Gabby and Hesk are. I'm sorry but I like the above lads, in the past they have done some good things, but they have proven to be average players. We want top 6 - they are not top 6 players. BTW did you notice something - NONE OF THE PLAYERS MENTIONED ABOVE are Eck's signings....
PiperUK
Piper, dont tell me..... your not one of the sheep!!! I get it, but come on mate, seriously??? I dont want the bloke gone just because im following what other people say. I want him gone because hes pants at his job....Its quite simple really.
GibboVilla
Shane villains, loving the fergies love children comment. It looks like the referred to silent majority are letting you know what they think by not purchasing season tickets u muppet mcleish. A man with no class, no dignity and a liar to boot
Randy bollox
It may cost a lot in compo to sack him but when you deduct the lost revenue in ST sales, merchandise etc. then it wouldn't be that bad. Plus in the long term sponsors ain't exactly going to be climbing over one another.
cynicalone
Why should his current contract hold any water if he hasn't delivered? Surely if we failed at our jobs then we are history, so why isn't this muppet gone already! Whatever his eckcuses the table does not lie. He had some money and some bad luck but no more/less than any other team. He's crap and let us down big time. Please Randy, see what's in front of you and do the right thing. Next.
holte ender 1969
Lol piper. Just when I thought you couldn't make us sheep laugh anymore. Give him another 2 years and give him 50 mil!!!! Randy is trying to get money back not chuck it away. You'll be the only one sat in VP on match days if Eck is here in 4 years and we'll be conference league. You are officially a bloonose or related to Eck. Wigan aren't below us in the league therefore you're not proved right about anything. You must be Eck as you are the only one who is as deluded and detached from reality and what the average person thinks!!!! We don't think that we've got a god given right to beat everyone but we should have the right to attempt a win rather than bending over like you'd like to do for Eck.
Villan444
Ho ho Piper. That really made me chuckle. Good to know that Villa fans retain a sense of humour.

TAXI FOR MCLEISH!!!!!!!!!!
walsallvillan
Ok I said at the start of the season if appointed give him a chance, he had it, sack him and sack him now. Worst manager I have ever had to suffer being incharge of a team I love (being an Irish villa fan I have seen a few awful ones). He does not even deserve to be allowed to quit someone who has made his living for as long as he has doing something they are so bad it deserves to be exposed to the world for the fraud they are. UTV!
Tallaght Villan
I do not think that Lerner will do anything unless a petition lands on his desk saying quite simply that although we still Villa in our blood we will withdraw our support whilst McLeish stays in charge. So all I ask you to do is to email me at pc.biz@btinternet.com stating that 1. whether you agree or do not agree and 2. whether you are a season ticket holder or not. (you don't yet to give me your name or contact details. Thanks-let's do something positive. Unless we do I don't believe Paul Faulkner & Co will do anything.
villacross
Going to forget all about football until the Euro's - Wake me only when Ginger Nuts is sacked.
Lost_In_Ca
By picking such a negative team today eck stuck his fingers up to the all supporters especially the travelling support. With bugger all at stake he could at least have had a go and made the crap journey to east anglia more bearable. Mr Lerner remove this man from from our football club with immediate effect. On your way back from the USA divert your flight to portugal and pick up Aston Villa Boas a man who has the capabilities, has a point to prove in the premier league, can remove the old boy back line and bring some younger talent to the club(sturridge as an example perhaps) and build from there, added to this he has a fine collection of flashers macs and we have always done well with managers with macs like that Ron Saunders, Graham Taylor, Big Ron for example. and it would be onwards on onwards from there AV B for me.
jj184
I will not attend VP agin until this joke of a manager is removed from the club. UTV
WentToRotterdam
Firstly- OxfordSpur, you are a knobhead, you don't care or even know anything about our club or even football at all!! Secondly, for what it's worth, have some decency and just resign McCleish, youre just been greedy and waiting for your big payout, I blame Randy and that useless ***** Faulkener for appointing you, but you are killing us, i don't hate you as a person but as a manager, you are the basil Fawlty of football, just go!!.... there, finished!!
leyhill
jj184, it worked with Arsenal Wenger, why not Aston Villas Boas!!! By the way, the Birmingham Mail(Kendrick) thinks Mc Leish will be sacked today
Madirish
I dont hate Alex Mcleish I am sure he is a hard working family man and a decent guy. I just do not think he is a premiership manager or ever will be his tactics are poor to say the least as for dignity that goes out the window with most humans when a few million quid is mentioned. The current squad are poor about the only thing I would agree with Piper on but compounding it by keeping Mcleish will insure relegation next season anyway. If Mr Lerner fails to see this then I am afraid he will get a huge reminder when those holding out on season ticket purchases fail to renew, but Villa already know this as they have rang most asking if they are renewing or if not why not ?. The meeting today will decide the fate of Villa in future but may also decide the level of support they recieve as well.
