McLeish On Darren Bent

Alex McLeish has said that Darren Bent should be fit for the Euros if Roy Hodgson wishes, but as expected, he definitely won't be involved against Norwich.

Speaking to the Official Site when giving us an injury update (which I'll do shortly), McLeish said of our record signing:

'Darren has no chance, he's not fit for Norwich. He's working hard in training, but he's not joined the group yet. It's important that Darren gets a good summer behind him and regroups for the start of next season. I think it's 19 games the big fella has missed. God knows how many goals he'd have got us and maybe took us into that little comfort zone. Hopefully he makes a full recovery in the summer and he's ready all guns blazing for next season.'

Commenting on the European Championships, he added:

'Roy would have a better idea in terms of Darren. If there were six weeks of the season to go, he'd certainly be back within those six weeks. But whether he goes to the Euros would be Roy's decision. He could be fine and available, put it that way.'

Based on the service he was getting i'd say he'd have got around 5 goals, been so hacked off with life he'd have been off in the summer. So hopefully now McLeish will be off, Bent will stay and we can get a manager who will at least try and set us up to try and score goals, take a few risks and entertain the fans a bit.

Yep, sounds like he perhaps could have played Spuds and Norwich, but wanted to save himself for the Euros and a transfer. Real shame if he does - don't for a minute think we'll see that sort of marquee signing again while Randy's here, more likely to be a McSheffrey than a Messi.
