'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Performance Key To Reserves Success

Kevin MacDonald has said there will be no change in the ethos of performance over result when it comes to the Play Off Final tonight against Manchester United.

Speaking to the Official Site ahead of tonight's 7pm kick off at Old Trafford, KMac said that when it comes to developing our youngsters it's not a results minded outlook, and he was looking forward to seeing the boys play to their best in the game.

'It's another part of the development, playing at Old Trafford will be a great experience for them. It's been a very good season from the point of view of playing in the NextGen tournament, getting to the quarter finals and travelling abroad and making them understand what the football is about. Now for them it's a great opportunity to go and test themselves.'

Speaking more specifically about how the youngsters are brought up, he added:

'It's always nice to win but if we get the performance regularly then the actual winning comes with that. If we have a good performance and create lots of chances and don't end up taking them on the night, that is a thing that sometimes happens in football.'

It's certainly going to be a big test tonight, but the reserves hold their own - 4 South Titles in 5 seasons afterall - and we just need a little bit of luck on the night.

Good luck lads, we'll be cheering you on!

Pride of Lions
Our whole set up on Youth / Reserves makes me really proud of the club. Less said about the 1st team and manager the better. But if we're looking for a marketing position in the world then it surely has to be as a club that is the very best for youngsters wanting to make their way in professional football. The best for opening opportunities and potential chances for international caps. I think that is a real selling point for us to sweep up the best talent at a young age. Here's my suggestion, make Kevin MacDonald Director of Football and give him complete control of the to set up the club in a similar vein to Ajax. Same style at every level throughout the club and teaching the very best youngsters. We have no chance of competing with Chelsea or Man City when it comes to cash so lets do things that they don't do well. Make the first team manager a coach who is effectively subordinate to a footballing philosophy rather than a complete useless tw*t who's idea of motivation is to slag off his younger players. Remember MON telling Ashley Young he was like Messi ? He didn't actually believe that but it was motivation to get the very best out of a player. I don't have any confidence that Alex McLeish is capable of that kind of motivation or subtlety of thought.
