Gus Poyet Wanted By Aston Villa?

www.dailymail.co.uk say that Brighton manager and former Chelsea player Gus Poyet is wanted by Aston Villa, West Brom and Wolves!

The Mail say that Poyet has combined 'attractive football with success`.

Funnily enough, Vital member voiceoftheholte said he was wanted with Zola as his assistant weeks ago!

Would love Poyet & zola, wouldn't say no to Gregory either, to be honest right now I'd be excited if you were manager JP.
eltoro
and Harry Redknap is going to be England manager..... oh no wait a minute. Can see Poyet going to Albion but we already have somethning, sorry someone, in the manager's position and that isn't going to change any time soon.
AVbornandbred
Yes, like the idea. Poyet has a good football ethos.
Pride of Lions
even if there was the remotest chance that Randy was going to make a change (and there isn't) everyone should know by now that the media will be the last to know and he certainly wouldn't make any overtures to clubs or managers before getting shot of Mcleish. Its just not his style
AVbornandbred
LOL@ eltoro... steady on! Big Badlie Fear's Claret and Blue army does have a ring to it though!
The Fear
think you are wrong AVbornandbred, we shall see, but had an Acorns bet with a few ... if he stays I've got some donating to do! lol
The Fear
Fits into the category of manager I think I'd like. As Prep says in the forum thread, young, ambitious, hungry and if he plays attractive football as well, cool. Also, voiceoftheholte had this rumour weeks ago and suggested that Zola would also be brought in as part of the team. OMG (with funny hand waving around face emoticon!!!!) Zola is a football God!

The Fear
think Gus would be a good option, but he is one of several very promising young managers around at the moment, though I assume he would perhaps come easier and cheaper than someone like Rodgers or Lambert and he would certainly see Villa as a step up and challenge for his next step and it would be a great job for someone
oxfordspur
John Gregory would be ace... :-)
Metalvillan
This would be good news, as some identify its not just the manager we could do with some great characters and quality in the back room staff too.
Chelt Villan
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer..... just putting it out there. Did big things with Man U kids (no biggie) but then won league in Norway.... Young, right pedigree, He'd want a chance in Prem....

I think the good thing about the next manager is that whoever it is will be really popular by virtue of NOT being Alex Mcleish!! I'd be pretty relieved if my Gran got the nod to be honest!
jvilla
Good grief: the is no positive news on this and we are already dreaming of success under Poyet. IF McLeish is relieved of his duties, then is it not likely that the baord will use the same criteria as before: i.e. the manager must have PL experience? Poyet has no such management experience. I am not saying I personally think this is necessary just that the board has used those criteria in the past. Its also interesting to see thoughts that this appointment alone will solve our problems: we still have some over paid players eating up resources, still have too few experienced players in the squad and little cash to buy. Any new manager is going to have to move forward slowly and will, no doubt under-achieve in the eyes of many fans as a result. Can we have more realism please?
Gordonsleftboot
Why would you believe anything written in the Forgers' Gazette?
chocolate teapot
We can dream nice dreams surely GLB ,much better than the nightmare of reality as is now
AstonBilla
I think the board would have to re-think it's strategies of appointment this time round. Both Rodgers and Lambert have shown that a good footballing philosophy and good management are enough to do well in the league. I thought it was ridiculous that we needed a manager with premiership experience in the first place, overlooking brilliant candidates such as Sanchez Flores. Poyet, Martinez or Lambert would be great but lets not get our hopes up. I won't be able to rest easily until idiot has gone and we appoint someone exciting.
Thom85
Oh and doesn't anyone else think it's strange that Mcleish was appointed because of his "Premiership Experience"? I mean I would hardly call it that, it was more sort of "Ive been in the premier league, hung around for a bit one year, had a a good time but then had to leave, but then came back and had a really good time actually but then left again" (Sighs)
Thom85
I do hope this is true... At the moment I just feel a little bit depressed thinking of the Villa. We need some injection of life into the place to make everyone 'excited' again... Come on villa do the right thing and get in Poyet and Zola!!
maigrait
Poyet or Lee Clark. Unless Pep Guardiola fancies a real challenge...
onlyteaminthemids
Wonder what Mcloser's next Eckscuse is going to be when we lose to norwich? Bet he tries to blame leaves on the half way line!!
thorpyuk
Happilly have another little acorns bet with you Mr fear. I would love this to be true, but just can't see Mcleish leaving. I will joyously say I was wrong and will happilly give money to acorns before renewing my season tickets, if a miracle happens.
AVbornandbred
Like the Scots famous shirt "anyone but England". Basically I would take anyone BUT McCleish!
villa_de
ABM t-shirts the weekend????
ljkal
what about dimatteo? tim nice-but-dim will get rid of him for sure. he wouldn't know a good manager if it came and punched him in the face!!!
walsallvillan
Can't see him leaving Brighton to be honest. He said he was totally committed to the long term project.
thekentvillan
Poyet could not even get Brighton in the play offs. he has not proved himself in the championship yet alone the premiership he is a loud mouth who defended Suarez despite him being charged with racial abuse on Evra he lacks integrity in my eyes he would be a bad appointment
Shane Villains
And Lee clarke is a failed championship manager how can some of you think he is good enough for Villa come on lads do your reasearch or actually follow up on some of these managers before blowing their trumpets
Shane Villains
Now this is more like it!
coeur_de_lion
Shan, Poyet only just won the league below and hasn't invested much as their money has gone on the new stadium and so basically has a 1st div team. Wouldn't expect any to make the playoffs under that. Heard the same interview RE: Suarez. He was just saying that Suarez was ignorant and not racist. Don't start up with the race card rubbish, you can't tarnish someone with the same brush because they come from the same country and are mates. What about the whole Liverpool team and Dalglish????????? Evra is a nasty piece of work who gives it although not suggesting Suarez was politically correct.
Villan444
Gus and franco live a few miles away from me would you like me to pop along and see if i can "sell the job to them"?..... Mind you Cascarino lives around there as well !!!
fatloser
Sadly I don't think McLeish is going anywhere
paintnothing
For all those who do not think McMuppet is leaving, have you had your call yet asking about Season Card renewals? The clubs panic from a few weeks ago has gone in to overdrive. I had a call yesterday and behind the scenes the panic has turned into absolute meltdown. It now looks like the club are looking at less than the original 4000 renewals that frightened them to death then. Please look at those figures. With McLeish in charge we are expecting less than 4000 Season Card holders. 4000!!!! Get in Poyet and Zola and that will be in excess of 20,000. Do the maths all you none believers. Sunday is McMuppets final day.
voiceoftheholte
Of course McLeish is gone, don't be daft. I think we will go for Martinez but Poyet would be my back up

Villan444 listen all footballers give it on the pitch i been in matches in school and amateur to know the boiling points they can reach but they are limits that should not be crossed. A thorough investigation was carried the FA and the evidence was over too overwhelming against Suarez reason why he was charged. Yet no brain Poyet still decided to come out and defend. And however much i dislike Fergie for landing us Mclueless i agree when he came out in response to Poyet and called him naive and stupid to make the comments he did. But moving on to his managerial credentials he is still not good enough he is unproven. He has to show he can at least mix with the big boys in the championship by making the plays at least. The he has to prove himself with a small club in the premiership and prove his worth then maybe then you can blow his trumpet depending on how he fairs. Poyet will be another Paul Ince at blackburn, some of those lower league managers tend to be to opportunistic to use common sense. Poyet needs to prove himself in the championship to further his development.

where are we in the league? who are we to say that any manager unproven is beneath us. i for one think lambert is above us at the mo, not with norwich but he will get more attractive offers than us, martinez could choose west brom over us, it hurts to say but until we are back around mid table or higher, why would anyone above us even look at us? yes we have this fantastic history of being 'ever present' yes we have won trophies european cup (81) fa cup(57) league cup(96), yes we had a top six team (that has financially crippled us) but for the here and now we have a small squad of young players. fresh and exciting, why not get a fresh, exciting manager to come in and we can all move forward together. the foundations at villa are outstanding. we are an interesting project but not to anyone above us as we are just seen as a dying breed. the managers we beg for have no reason to leave their clubs and any manager from across water wants money. i would hapilly take a punt on poyet or clarke, 3 years ago would anyone have looked at lambert and he is the proven article. nigel adkins next season might prove just as good, holloway fantastic, brendan rodgers out arsenaled the gooners. not even newcastle fans gave pardew the time of day and now look so why dont we look to our own revelation of a manager and become great again instead of turning our noses up like the fickle football snobs we sometimes get rightly accused of being. rant over UTV VTID 19th minute
deaf dean
No thanks. Used to like Poyet until he came out and defended Suarez in the race row. He was pretty vehement too - it was pretty disgusting. Next...
