Carruthers Looking To Push On

Samir Carruthers has said he was delighted to make his breakthrough into the first team this season, but he knows he still has a long way to go.

Speaking to the Official Site after his recent bench experience plus a few minutes on the pitch, Carruthers said he was obviously delighted to have made the step up, but now he has to build on that in order to become a regular in the first team.

The 19 year old Republic of Ireland U19 international said getting on the pitch was an honour he wants to repeat:

'It's nice to get compliments but you can't ease up and say 'that's it, I'm sorted'. You've got to keep going and you want more minutes out there. I have really enjoyed it, it's such an honour at the moment.'

Carruthers added that when McLeish told him he was going on, his legs did wobble as he wasn't expecting it, but he thinks he adjusted well and dealt with the pressure:

'I was a bit shocked when he called me, we had just conceded so we had to relieve the pressure. It was a good experience and another learning curve and it was nice to get out there. My legs turned to jelly and I was really nervous but when I got on there I was really excited.'

Certainly been a bright spark this season and he didn't look out of place when he has got on the pitch. Will be watching him very closely next season, as he could become a very important impact player for us in games if allowed to play his own game.

he should start against Norwich. He looks a superb talent and should be given 90 minutes to get some experience.

Was that when his jelly legs made Gerrard look like he had wooden legs? Should have had an extra minute or two but McIdiot never makes the right subs. Obviously the club knows this otherwise they wouldn't be putting him on the front page.

Give him 90 minutes against Norwich!

Looking forward to seeing lots more of Samir, he looks a real talent. I'd definately give him 90 minutes at Norwich, it would be a good learning experience for him and something to build on next season - with a good manager behind him by then hopefully.

As the only other forward we've got fit is Delfonesu, seems a no-brainer to give him a game vs Norwich.
