Whatever Doesn't Kill You Makes You Stronger

Ciaran Clark believes our young Lions will have benefited from the rigours of this season, and will show their best in the next campaign.

Speaking to the Official Site as we gear up for the season closer against Norwich, Clark said the experience gained by the youngsters will stand them in good stead for the future.

If we are looking for some positivity from the season, I suppose this is something we can be thankful for?

'I think everyone has been strong and shown a good attitude. Hopefully the club can be stronger from a season like this, we can use this experience in seasons to come and build on it and push forward. There are a load of exciting players, Albrighton, Bannan and Weimann and we've all played together since 15-16 and know what each other can do and we bond well. It can only be good for the club.'

Some of our best moments on the pitch have come when the team have been predominantly made up of our ex reservists, and I've already said on the forum I would go with youth for the Norwich game. Give as many of them as we can 90 minutes, and see how they handle it.

Can't be much worse than the dross the seniors have served up this season!

'You have to grow up quickly in a relegation fight. It's a big learning curve and experience for us and I think it can only be good for the club.'

been a baptism of fire for them, won't hurt them in the long run I'd suspect.

Think AVBornandbred puts his finger on the most important point when saying "en masse" Putting one or two in a game surrounded by good solid pros they would I believe look a lot better he had the chance to do this earlier in the season before injuries struck it might have given those kids some confidence for the latter stages had he done this. The one thing young players will do is follow orders which just goes to prove how poor the tactics are.

I think most of the kids have gone backwards in development under McLeish. Anyone who says they are not good enough should watch the Utd home game from last season. If the fonz hadnt come on I think we would have won that game! Sure there are inconsistent preformances. My main issue is that all the players hide in this team which is not acceptable but is maybe the result of McLeish! Thats why Carruthers looked so hot when he came on as he wanted the ball against Lpool & Utd. Also whats it do for their confidence that McLeish plays them in games he thinks we cant win and then drops them for the likes of Bolton at home where I would have said, go prove to me what you are made of!

As for the talk from our Ciaran i fully agree with Villan444 the negative losing 'headless chicken' mentality mclueless has instilled in them does not bound well for the future its very damaging if it continues. Mclueless tried very hard to instill the same mediocrity accepting mentality in us villa fans all season but failed. He expected villa fans to be singing his name for keeping us up the man is deluded completely on his own planet.

Clark and Poyet are serious? Clark got sacked you could argue it was unfairly but fact is their club hierarchy felt he had taken the club as far as he could . He has to prove himself we are not a training ground for failed championship managers however promising he may be he has not even proved himself in the championship. As for poyet the man talks more than he deliver you lot see him on skysports news giving it large but have you actually followed his all campaign this season. He failed at the crucial moments to motivate his team otherwise they would have made the play offs. Owen Coyle achieved it with Burnley so there is no excuses with Poyet he is just a talker.

AVbornandbred - I also agree with every opinion you've offered there, if only slightly more positive on Weimann.

i watch the reserves and youth team regularly.. These kids HAVE been coached in an 'Arsenal type' of football and definitely have the control and awareness to be excellent at this style as witnessed by the performances in the NextGen series and the reserve matches..The difference is that KMac philosophy is 'how can we hurt the opposition' whereas McLeish is 'how can we stop the opposition'..Gardner has been playing while not fully fit. I believe he will excell next season under new positive management..Carruthers is a super prospect, but so are another six or seven 16-18 year olds those who don't follow the kids won't have heard of...With the RIGHT manager (Lambert, Martinez, Poyet, Clark etc) the future WILL be very bright

Agree with bornandbred on all of them. Whether any of them will make it depends who is coaching/managing them at this CRUCIAL stage though. Clark is just using cliches. We've developed a losing mentality and the players have been so negative and they've been taught that this along with the style and results is OK and acceptable. They MUST develop a winning mentality and forget about this anti-Barcelona style that we play. It's literally, everything that they're used to doing day in day out which is so so wrong. Barca and Arsenal concentrate on the beautiful game. Our lads are being brainwashed into Eck's strange tactical non-genius and are having the football coached out of them to play some strange thing that only exists on planet Eck, ( a place where you never do something wrong and it's always someone else's fault, being a good player is ONLY about how far you can kick the ball away from goal and you play territorial football as if it's rugby. )
08/05/2012 21:13:00
as if you come out and blame the players once safe - you have to motivate a team as a manager. and to be honest who wants to play for him? i wouldn't id tell him to get lost if he told me to keep defending.. id say jog on ginge I'm pushing forward you clueless (unt

this is the same bunch of reservists and youth that have failed everytime they've been tried en mass, not just by this pathetic manager but by his rather more capable predecessors. I'd say Clark, Lichaj & Herd are ready to start. Baker and Weiman have potential. Albrighton looks like Peter Whittingham to me and the fonz is Luke Moore mark two. Of the rest Gardner hasn't done anything since he got a chance and only Carruthers excites me.
