Alex Knew We Were Bottom Table Material?

Ok, in looking at the quotes from Alex (see part one: Alex Has NOT Taken The Weight This Season )

The next one that left me angry yesterday is below. I`m only just now at 2:30pm the next day able to write anything for the front page, if I`d tried last night my temper and sadness for this season would have got the better of me, I didn`t want to embarrass myself!

Anyway, he said:

'Certainly when I assessed the squad at the start of the season I thought there was a possibility of being in the lower half of the table. Despite the name Aston Villa, it comes down to depth, strength of squad and quality."

Sorry, that is NOT what he said to the five of us who met him in the summer. He was chuffed to bits to be at a big club, with the facilities and was excited to work with the squad. He knew it was a top eight bunch as he said so. He knew Ashley Young was leaving, so that is NOT an excuse and the departure of Downing was negated with the arrival of HIS signing, Charles N`Zogbia. Now fine, Zoggy has not set Villa alight, but he did at Wigan so surely the fact he was played out of position and fell out with McLeish is a part or all of the reason for that?

He said he couldn`t play attacking football at Blues because they didn`t have the quality to do it, but that Villa DID have the quality and so he would use that to make an attacking team.

scratching head

He also said he KNEW that Gabby wasn`t a winger, but then put him on the wing.

I`m sorry, one by one, your comments just do not add up Alex. It is sad to see a manager face so much hatred, so much bile, so much abuse but to be fair, the Villa faithful (and we are largely faithful) have had to put up with the most insulting season we`ve faced for decades.

You can see clearly the players confidence is shot. Totally and utterly shot. Players who were bright sparks even last season have faded into nothing this year. Coincidence?

It can`t be. When we met him, he actually came over as calm, strong and as said, excited at the prospect of working with the squad he was getting AND with the younger players. Then he has Heskey on the wing instead of Albrighton who you could see as the season developed, became less and less confident. Where is the man management for these 'kids`? We have a great bunch coming through, I fear if Alex stays, he`ll ruin them with his negative anti football style.

Did he say at the interview with Randy that he thought we were a bottom half club? That is what he`s implied all season long. I wonder if that is how he communicated to the owner? Paul Faulkner got slated earlier in the season saying the aim should be Europe but I couldn`t figure out why. IT SHOULD BE. Fine, we let Ash go, we still had a top class striker who was left isolated up front and with little chance (and he still got us ten goals). John Barnes in his slating of our game v Man Utd said the very same before we had even kicked a ball.

Everyone can see the tactics of McLeish are wrong, he`s continued in the negative form despite assuring us (ahem) that he isn`t a negative manager and that is a myth.

I`d say his managerial ability is a myth and if Sir Alex disagrees, maybe he`ll come get the guy for Manchester United and see how long their fans would put up with it? Hey, I`ll even drive him up to you Sir Alex AND throw in the petrol and a slap up meal at the Little Chef.

There are a good few of us who stuck our necks out and said 'give him a chance`... how wrong we were (to be fair, to a man, not ONE fan said they wanted him to be hired!)... he`s let us down badly.

Where is your dignity Alex?

Well said, he seems to be disrespecting the squad he inherited with his latest quotes! We need to keep his comments in the public eye so that people (the press) realise that the issue's about him are NOT because of where he came from, but the garbage we have had to witness on the pitch this season.

I really don't know how you can be so disrespectful Fear. Randy cherishes that letter from Sir Alex, he keeps it in his safe y'know.

if they don't replace him in the summer . lerner and faulkner will have lost their whole fan base... don't see many renewing under mcliesh.. must be mental to renew at this current state.

I've been a season ticket holder for 25 years and a regular attendee before that. I renewed last year with the idea that I would give him a chance. Got as far as the Spurs away game ( 2 right backs to quell Bale) before I gave up on him. I won't be renewing this year if he is still in charge. Villa has been a large part of my social life for a long time but I haven't enjoyed one game this season! McLeish should do the honourable thing and leave now.

You have to have a good memory to be a liar and get away with it. Obviously, he hasn't got a good memory.

It's a worry that the press seem to be now saying that he 'has the backing of Randy Lerner' made a horrendous mistake...dont compound it by keeping the guy...he's proved he's out of his depth....if McLeish is still in charge next year I fear many of us will lose interest....

It's never, ever, his fault! It's the players or the lack of players etc etc. I think his comments this weekend, regarding next season, are very interesting. When asked the same type of questions after the Baggies game he would not be drawn on speculation regarding next season. I assume this was because he was afraid the reaction this may have caused at the last home game? And maybe he is he now starting to dig in to try to put himself into a stronger negotiating position should his employment be terminated? Whatever the reason, he's got to go and soon.

Didn't Faulkner say that we can achieve a top ten finish and challenge for a European place? Yes i think he did, so he has not achieved that, he has not achieved that by a long way...So he has failed as a Villa manager then meaning he must be fired surely? What in any way do people think this disgusting man will succeed at Villa? He has a history of failure, relegated Birmingham twice in three seasons, got run out of Rangers after finishing 3rd in a two horse race, the only achievement he has is a lucky Carling Cup win and that is all...This 'thing' is not a Football Manager, it must hurt young upcoming coaches trying to get into the game to coach or manager but struggle because they are not 'former' footballers. They must look at Mcleish with his disgusting anti footballing ways and it must kill all their confidence, trying to do things the right way, getting nowhere and seeing this tosser in a great job earning millions a year...If Mcleish stays then unfortunately we are going to be the next Leeds/Nottingham Forest, we will slip down the divisions and we will continue getting the blame. Mcleish out!

He's proved himself to be a liar, dilusional and totally selfish. He had me believing there was something wrong with my eyesight & hearing saying he wasn't a negative manager and played attacking football. Both proved wrong by a visit to the opticians and a hearing test. Why can't he just man up and admit he hasn't got the abilities he thinks he has, one look at his career record will show him he's not what he thinks he is.

I have this horrible sinking feeling that Mr Lerner is going to stick his chin out to try and prove a point. His money, his club his manager like it or lump it. And the worry is that he just doesnt realize the scale of those who will say no thanks.
