Oh! So he's definitely off then? :(
Adam Deuce
Yup, out of contract as is heskey and guzan.
The fear
:( gutted, I wish Carlos the best of luck at his next club.
Green Villan
Don't bother giving him a new deal as we have so many players better than him eh?!
juddy
On his day he is a very good defender. Shame he is going, would have liked him to stay, good luck in the future Carlos!
calavfc
Such a waste! Wish him the best!
Astriel
Yeah he's a good squad player. His best game was Man City at home last season. He's obviously one if the 45k a week gang. Id rather spend the money on tying Baker, Clarky and Herdy to long term contracts.
PiperUK
I agree with you piper. Carlos is a good club man but he isn't GREAT. 45k a week is spent better elsewhere - good luck to the king.
VillainYorks
Out of the 3 elder centre halves we have, it shouldn't be Cuellar leaving.
mike_field
No Mr Field they should all go
villan57
45k for what I believe should be a first team starter!?! That's peanuts these days and anyone with half a brain would keep Cuellar, top man on and off the pitch. Huge loss
AdzVilla11
Agree with Adz. If we're to build a new team of players earning less than 30K a week, it's not going to be very good. Give it a season or two and even the kids will be wanting new contracts if they are playing regularly. Cuellar was a solid player and I don't see why we'd just let him walk away. Of course, why would he even want to stay with McLeish still in charge?
Lee282
I'm amazed! Sad to see King Carlos allowed to leave.
Pride of Lions
Agree with piper. What we do not know is what king Carlos wanted in another deal. Maybe the club offered less and he said no. Or even he might know that McMuppet is staying so he wants out?? Either way good luck to you Carlos and thanks. Please take Warnock, Dunne and Heskey with you.
holte ender 1969
The best beard at Villa Park since Olof Mellberg. 45k or not, better than Collins and Dunne IMO, nowhere near the trouble off the pitch that they are...we need to keep him.
Francobaresi13
He should definitely be kept, letting him go is madness with the other options we have available. Good luck Carlos. Good luck to us all...
magicmerson
Gutted to see him go, never complained despite being dropped when playing brilliantly to make way for the other two idiots. Once again the fall guy, can't believe we are keeping Dunne and Collins to get rid of Carlos! Thanks for the service and the respect you have always shown this club. Top man!
Lion Heart
Thasnks Carlos..... has seemed to me to be a great professional, never publicly whinged and, played where he was told to and when . Genuine affection for the club.?...who really knows but says the right things and never (in my opinion) let the club down unlike some others who a probably earning more than he was anyway...Good Luck Carlos and thanks
fatloser
holte ender 1969 - Villa are not allowed to offer a player less than his previous contract. They have to offer the same or more. I suspect Carlos would have settled for the same again but Villa said no. We shall miss him but hey ho on we go.

Nice tweet. With regards to wages it is often overlooked that it was Middlesborough --of all clubs -- who started the wage madness in the EPL. In the late 90's they brought in Ravanelli on a Bosman and put him on 60k a week which was unheard of in English football at the time. Player salaries in the EPL which were generous but not excessive just seemed to spiral upwards and upwards after that. That a journeyman should apparently be earning 45k per week is indicative of the financial madness that has engulfed English football. Where will it all end?
VillaWillRiseAgain
and we'll miss u you to Carlos
eltoro
Lol at the above comments, but well said VWRA - 45k a week for a 31 year old average defender? And thats not meant in a negative way, he wouldn't get into a top six side would he?
PiperUK
Be nice to bring in a whole new wage structure where they all get a 'low' basic of say 20k per week, but have really big bonusses for wins, goals, assists, clean sheets, final league position etc, with the highest profile players getting the most. Structured properly, the big earners could get more than at present (and more than at most other clubs) in a good season, but a bad season would cost relative peanuts.
