Villa Boss Set To Keep Head Down At Villa Park

This is quite sad really.

Alex McLeish has told Mat Kendrick at The Birmingham Mail that he knows he`ll have to keep a low profile tomorrow for the Spurs game at Villa Park.

He 'hid` on the bench at the Hawthorns last week saying it would have been a chore ( A Chore For Alex McLeish.. A Chore For Villa Fans ) and now he will keep his 'head down` at Villa Park.

Such a shame they didn`t, after it became clear after the Bolton game that his position was (surely???) untenable, call it a day and put the reserve set up in charge for the remaining games. It would have saved the manager facing protests and all the anger.

He can`t stay next season, he just can`t, all this is so negative for us, for the team, for him, for the Club. Just wish they`d ended this for all involved. On a human level, imagine walking out to this much hostility? Must be awful for any manager and yes, I know they are well paid and do an awful job and let down fans etc (not just this manager).

Mat asked him what he`d do and he said:

"I`ll probably keep my head down and let the fans concentrate on supporting the players. It`s a new day. The last game was snatching a defeat from the jaws of victory so the fans are never going to be happy with that. So I accept that night and I take it on the chin. But I`ve no fears of walking back into the arena. I`m passionate about getting the right results at Villa Park." Adding, "We are looking for a siege mentality and getting about Spurs."

Despite some not being sure about the traditional lap of honour at the end of the game, it is planned to go ahead and probably rightly. I`m sure it will feel awkward for the players and the fans, but that doesn`t mean they shouldn`t do it does it?

McLeish confirmed he thinks the players will want to thank the fans.

Our latest poll asks your opinion, should there be a lap of honour? For me, I think they should come out and say thanks, but it will be a strange one won`t it?!?!

Totally agree Fear,i think the board should have acted before now knowing what will happen again at VP tomorrow. It will be a strange mood at VP tomorrow after getting thumped by Spurs, players getting an applause and chanting AM out at the same time, going to be odd..

Very sad and a crazy situation when a manager cannot do his job. One strange aspect is that as far as I know there is no threat to protest at him during the game and so really no need for his reaction. That said though I would not like to be in his position. Makes me wonder if he has already resigned and is simply seeing the games out.

Yes, I said, with 6 games left and little prospect of many more points, that a sabbatical for AMc from Villa Park and putting KMac and Sid in charge was the best option. It would at least be best if he 'managed from the stands' this Sunday.

I personally do not want the players to come out on a 'lap of honour', win or lose they can all go back to the dressing room with that spineless man Mcleish. The players deserve no praise, they deserve no awards night, as much as i dislike Mcleish it's been the players fault this year also...Big changes are needed this summer, we need to take a page from Newcastles book and get back to actually being 'decent'.

The lap of honour is actually not a lap of honour. It is for the players to salute our support. And salute it they should. We have still turned up in reasonable numbers and for a majority of the season have given McMuppet every opportunity to succeed. We have endured some of the most turgid football in living memory and are still not safe from the drop. So let the players face the fans and for once they can show their appreciation of us.

sod a lap of honour, they should come out and do a lap of shame. They can make signs saying sorry.

P.AVFC: Agreed. Lap of honour is a bit of a joke. The players get the chance to thanks us for our support at the end of each game and most can't be bothered to walk more than half the length of the field. Frankly I just want the season to end ASAP. Yes I'll be at Norwich but it'll be good to have a break from this lot for a while after that. All so different from the end of Randy's first season. The board needs to get a grip in the Summer - and quickly not spend many more weeks thinking about things, they have the time for that now.

"We are looking for a siege mentality and getting about Spurs." That's a contradiction in terms, a siege mentality is where you sit back with eleven men behind the ball and wait for the final whistle. People under siege generally defend, not attack.

So he thinks having a siege mentality will be the way to go against Spurs. He's done it again, they've got the upper hand before we even kick off. Does he not see that those words are so negative, this has been the problem all season. It was what he did at sha as well. We need a win and that doesn't usually happen when your defending.

Well P.AVFC sums it all up for me, and i think the same and agree 100% what he says, I do not want the players doing a lap of honour? Lamp of bleedin Honour? for what ageing us scoring own goals conceeding goals constantly from set pieces even not being able to stop a 5foot6 player Benayoun for Arsenal scoring a free header etc nah they can pee right off aint getting no plaudits from me, Mcleish go now m8 im sorry for the personal abuse and stuff your getting but just be a man and walk away!

We could have had 40,000+ fans right behind the team and caretaker manager, singing in full voice. Instead we are probably going to have the saddest day at Villa Park in many. Randy really has no clue huh!?!?!?! Eck is a deadman walking so why not put him out his misery before it came to this. RANDY YOU DID THIS WAKE UP
