Stephen Ireland has thanked the fans for selecting him as the Supporters' Player of the Year and vowed to do all he can in our final games to put a smile on our faces. Speaking to the Official Site Ireland said he was pleased to have finally won fans over and although he has improved on the pitch, he knows there has to be a lot more coming from him if he's going to convince all the doubters. Interesting comments from voice re: the awards: "Fear, not sure how it was chosen but there are some interesting facts from the actual night. The only players not to attend were Gabi and Stan (obviously). It was probably the flatest awards ceremony of the last 15 years and the atmosphere was at best, muted. No surprise really as there has not been much to celebrate. However the most interesting parts I thought were that McMuppet and his team sat seperate to the the Board and the people associated with the hierachy within the club. Most telling, for the first time that I am aware of, the Manager never even made a speech congratulating award winners, geeing up the supporters and promising better times ahead. I think that tells us all exactly what we need to know. He is no longer in charge. He is just seeing out time until we are officially safe and then he is gone." voiceoftheholte

Wadey: Scream, scream, and scream again! Faced with yet another protest from Villa's revolting fans, this weekend, I am sure that when Randy Lerner woke up this morning and opened his newspaper and read that Edvard Munch's famous painting, The Scream, had sold for $120m (£74m), a wry smile crossed his face, as he concluded that had he bought the painting instead of Aston Villa FC, he would have achieved exactly the same result, but for a lot less money and without the travelling costs.
