'If It's Football, It's Vital'

'Pedal for Petrov'

From official site... reproduced for obvious reasons:

Two members of Villa's backroom team will display their pedal power by embarking on a mammoth fundraising cycle ride in support of skipper Stiliyan Petrov.

Masseurs Alex Butler and Andrew Smith are looking to raise £250,000 for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research by cycling to Villa Park from Petrov's former club Celtic.

The 400-mile journey will begin at Celtic Park in Glasgow on September 3, with several stop-offs planned en route to B6.

Alex and Andrew have dubbed the challenge 'Pedal For Petrov' and it has already captured the imagination of players, supporters and club staff.

The duo - known affectionately as Big Al and Smudger - were devastated by the news that club captain Petrov had been diagnosed with acute leukaemia in March.

Having grown close to the Bulgarian midfielder since his transfer from Villa to Celtic in 2006, they decided to show their support by taking on this incredible fundraising challenge.

'When the news came out, we just couldn't believe it,' said Alex.

'We were all devastated so Smudger and I decided we would like to do something for Stiliyan.

'We came up with the idea of doing something for a charity in his name because Stan has been so good to us while we have been at the club.

'He has a lot of fans at both Celtic and Villa so we decided to do something incorporating both clubs.'

Alex and Andrew have already raised over £20,000 through their Just Giving page and they have also set up a text message donation service.
