'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Alexander Hleb Rips Into McLeish 'Tactics'.

Just read this: http://en.rian.ru/sports/20120419/172911969.html which I noticed via Steve Wollaston at The Birmingham Mail

The site quotes former Blues on loan (from Barcelona) player (he played 19 times) Alexander Hleb about his time at Blues under Alex McLeish.

"At Birmingham, the team played the long-ball game, practically bypassing midfield. To get into the game you had to play up front or linger at the back with the defenders to get hold of the ball, which more often than not flew right past me.'

He says Alex McLeish wasn`t 'not a bad bloke' but ..................! On tactics:

'The day before a game he would come onto the pitch and show us what to do: 'You stand here, the goalkeeper will give you the ball here, kick it as far as you can and don't pass to anyone nearby. And we all run.''

Ahem.

OUCH.

He`s not the only Blues player to say such things but I can`t repeat the other bits as they were said privately!!!!

Embarrassing though. Wish this situation had never transpired, not for him, not for us.

We are doomed.
Dumble
Just sums up exactly how he plays, and exactly why every sane villa fan wants shot of this failure
thorpyuk
is David O'Leary available? I'm that desperate to get rid
bigolbear1970
should suit Dunne down to a tee
AVbornandbred
Then blame the true villain of the piece - Martin O'Neill!! We should be grateful there was someone out there who wanted the job after O'Neill had acted so disgracefully!
godzvilla
Anyone surprised?
Trekker
just read this from a quote from mcnegative in the birmingham mail.... "And Martin has come in there and he has god-like status already – that’s something I am going to have to earn here" ROFLMAO!!!! hahahahahahahahaha maybe if he walks off the stadium roof during the half-time oranges????
thorpyuk
yeh the god like status remark did cause my coffee to shoot down my nose Unfortunately, seen an article in the Sun saying that the rumour about him going and a DofF coming in is tosh too
bigolbear1970
thorpyuk, yeah I ROFLMAOed too! Satan's a kind of God... you're already there in my eyes, Beelzebozo!
Rawlie
This is kind of a dutch style.
lerneravfc
lol, yes, was a good one that... he could do stand up!
bigolbear1979, DOL was a twerp for sure, but he was working under bad circumstances and no money etc, think the first season we played decent enough football and finished the same as the Messiah, 6th. I think he'd have been better suited, with the money we had at the start, than MON who proved he wasn't able to buy that well. Bad timing eh!?

'You stand here, the goalkeeper will give you the ball here, kick it as far as you can and don't pass to anyone nearby. And we all run.'' Ah Yes. I thought this rang a bell. This is exactly what Rinus Michels used to shout at Johan Cruyff from the touchline in 1974.

Isee he's linked with moses - is that in keeping with the god-like status?...............lets face it he won't even get dog-like status at VP do one useless!
griffgriff
hahah! the second quote is brilliant, I can certainly imagine Mcleish saying that, walking away /training session over. See you tomorrow boys!
callum_ws
Linked with Moses - our defence needs no more encouragement to part like the Red Sea!
McGrath4Pope
It certainly comes as no surprise to me.......
Pride of Lions
Lerner's the one to blame
M5villa
lol@ McGrath4Pope! Very droll!
The Fear
I'm really surprised, I thought he was a tactical genius.
jonah
Thank you Alex you have confirmed what we all said about McLeish before he was appointed, get yourself a pint on me.
