Still Captain Stan

Barry Bannan has revealed that despite facing his own battle, Stiliyan Petrov is still 'Captaining' the side in theirs.

Speaking to the Official Site Bannan said of Stan's recent visit to Bodymoor:

'It was great to see him, it was fantastic. He is one of my close mates at the club, it was brilliant to see him. He was laughing, bantering and telling jokes - just in good spirits, that's Stan for you. He's going through a really tough time as we all know but you wouldn't know from being around him, he's always positive and looking ahead.'

It is fantastic news to hear that Stan's in such good spirits, meeting up with his colleagues and having a good laugh can only aide him in his battle, but that doesn't mean he's stopped offering support or playing the captain's role:

'I was down after the Man U game and he was chatting to me via text, having a few words for me. He's told us to keep going and get ready for the big games coming up. He's told us we can turn it around and finish strongly, he's told us to keep battling. He may be fighting illness but he'll be following us every step of the way, he'll be pushing us all the way.'

Bannan adds that a huge incentive for the team to finish strongly is so they can ensure that when Stan returns he returns as skipper in the Premier League.

Let's hope they all remember that in the coming games!
