Lawro v Mystic Mug Faceoff... Man Utd v Villa

Blimey, Lawro is very talkative about Man Utd v Villa! You can see the full quotes: www.bbc.co.uk/sport

The BBC pundit, who was wrong at the weekend with Mystic Mug guessing the right score and result ... is saying 3-0 to Man Utd this time around.

He admits Man Utd were poor v Wigan but... well, it is Villa they are facing now! :o"

'...... you very rarely see two successive under-par performances from them, let alone back-to-back losses. And, having seen quite a bit of Aston Villa recently, I just cannot see them posing Manchester United any problems."

He adds again on Villa, having said (rightly I think most agree) a few times: "Villa's tactics have generally been negative all season. Manager Alex McLeish always seems to play one too many defensive-minded players. They have got loads of young players coming through, which is fantastic for them, but that does not mean anyone would realistically tip them to get even a point here."

He does say that although in another relegation battle for McLeish, Villa should just about be ok.

"They play Sunderland and Bolton at home in their next two games and they have to be looking for four points from those fixtures, which would be enough to keep them up."

Aye, get this game out of the way, those two are the crunch games for Villa. Gulp.

You can also see his thoughts on the summer here: www.bbc.co.uk/sport He says it will be up to what Randy thinks of the job McLeish as done and argues we are still an attractive club to come to (manager wise).

Mystic Mug has very little to say apart from 2-0 if Man Utd want a canter, more if they are up for it.

What say you folks? Win/lose/draw poll is live (right hand bottom of this page)

Can anyone see a Villa win?

Its amazing how many times a team backes really heaviliy to lose, doesn't. So on that basis I say a draw at least. OK its no great vote of confidence but if we aren't going there trying to get something, why bother at all? (OK I can hear the comments heading in my direction now!)

Regarding the negative manager comments, Lawro is of course correct. The issue as I see it is whether McLeish has taken that tack acknowledging that for resources resons this was just a season to survive to ensure that other issues could be blown out of the system or whether even if he was managing Barcalona he would still play the same way. If the latter that Randy should say thanks and ta ra, if the former then he has done what he was asked to do and needs to change the situation this Summer. Over to you Randolph.

Can't see nothing better for us than a 2-0 to Manure, but I'm going for 3-0 to Manure.

Funny how he says the owner has decided he's not going to spend 25mil every season to come tenth, I thought we came 6th 3 seasons in a row and were in 3rd around Xmas. Get it right mate! Anyway I don't care if Randy cuts the budget I care who is the manager and making the footballing decisions. We all know Man U will win this one easily

be delighted with a draw Gordonsleftboot, Mystic was tempted because Lawro is one ahead of him in predictions, but think this is a home banker really!
The Fear
I'd settle for 3 - 0 now . I'm afraid we're going to get a real right thumping when instead of having a go ala Wigan, Mcleish parks the bus & Young does his Tom Daley impersonations around the area

post-match press conference.......well i do think that 100-0 flatters them a wee bit but ye canna expect ta come ta a place like this and tak anything except a lovely prawn sandwich - especially when the big mon got me in to this cushy number with his bull*****e!
griffgriff
lol @ griff. Nice to hear Lawro talking some sense, and giving some positive comments towards us re: the infrastructure / setup etc, and the youth. We finished 6th though for 3 seasons, not 10th, so the last comment was a little un-necessary. Gordon - i'm afraid to say Mcleish will be in the latter category... he'll never play attacking free-flowing football despite his lies, oops i mean claims! Watch pretty much any game this season, and despite the opposition, we're always awful to watch.

A few years ago if we were playing Utd after they had been deservedly beaten by Wigan I would seriously fancy us to get at them the way Wigan did and win. They must feel jittery with the title theirs to lose? If we got out the blocks fast we could give them a real scare. However im sure we will sit back and allow them to rebuild their confidence and win with ease. Unfortunately Lawro is right in that Utd very rarely turn in poor performances back to back. Plus its on tv and we never play well on tv. 4-0 Utd.
Lion Heart
Yes, quality griffgriff!! Gordon, I think that you've hit the nail on the head. Eck goes to places trying to draw, we either draw or lose. If we went to places trying to win we may even WIN!!! Regardless, it is so obvious that 3 draws = 1 win and 2 losses points wise. If someone could only get this into Eck's thick ginger noggin, he may go for a win every time and just might pull it off 1 in 3 times!!!!! Can't teach an old dog new tricks and Eck has never looked like working this out throughout his career. If every game to him was a cup game then he'd be the perfect manager (mentality wise anyway!!!!!!)
