There's Only One Captain At The Club

Gabby Agbonlahor has said he is looking to follow the example set by our previous captains, but as far as he's concerned there's only one captain of Villa and that's Stan.

Speaking to the Official Site Gabby explained that he wanted to do Stan proud by leading the boys to a strong finish in the league this season, and although it's an honour to lead the lads out, he admits captaining the side has never been something he's thought seriously about.

'Olof Mellberg was the man with the armband when I made my debut, and since then we have had Barry, Laursen and, of course, Stiliyan. I've learnt a lot from all of them and I've also matured as a player so the prospect of being captain isn't as daunting as it might have been. I had an idea of what to expect, it's obviously a big thing for me, maybe it's not something I imagined when I broke into the team but it's a privilege to be following some great Villa captains.'

Gabby goes on to explain that he's more than happy to do the job and wear the armband for as long as is needed but his greatest wish is that he can hand the armband back to Stan as soon as is possible.

'I'm willing to do the job for as long as required, although as far as I'm concerned there's only one captain of this club. I am honoured to be wearing the armband and I just wish it could have been in different circumstances. My biggest wish is that Stiliyan will come back and lead us again.'

Fans seem torn at the moment on Gabby as captain as well as his current form, but there's no way McLeish is going to make a change now so hopefully it's a role Gabby will grow into quickly.

Hope he does grow itoit DOUBLE QUICK! He certainly doesn't look or act like captain material. Yet another calamity in a season of calamity!
