Reserves Take South Title Once Again

Reserves Take South Title Once Again

Our next generation are living up to the standards set by their predecessors after they secured the Barclay's Premier Reserve South title today.

MacDonald

This means Kevin MacDonald, his staff and the second string have now taken the title four times in the last five seasons, and will now most likely face Manchester United in the National Play Off.

Gardner

With so many of the core of the second string being promoted up to first team level, it's an even bigger achievement for the younger lads, many of whom made their reserve debuts this term before becoming regulars and most of them aren't out of short trousers.

Daniel Johnson

New names to watch for, Grealish, Drennan, Burke, Taylor and Graham are five obvious ones that have come to the attention of fans following their performances but they are certainly not alone. Known quantities such as Carruthers, Cameron, Johnson, Siegrist etc have all also continued to show good development this season.

Progressing well in the inaugural NextGen series was another bonus this season aswell.

Anyway enough babbling!

Well done lads, for some it's another medal, for others it's their first at this level. The first of many hopefully!

Our final game of the season is against Fulham, but it's an irrelevance as neither Arsenal nor WBA are in a position to catch us at the top of the table.

Well done all round. Behind facade of the first team, the club have got round pegs in round holes. We now need to put a round peg in the round managerial hole of the first team and employ a man who can help these youngsters make the transition from reserves to the first team. As fans are never going to accept McMuppet this pressure will destroy young confidence. Lets not waste the obvious good work of the academy.

astvil123?? So the club has to find a new man to do do the job that we have got somebody doing brilliantly already?? Kev Mac doesn't want the first team job and the 6 0 kicking by the Barcodes last season showed that he isn't the man needed at the top level. In my opinion we must keep the people doing good jobs, in the positions where they are doing good jobs. Stability is key. We simply need to find the right man at the top of the tree.

As we congratulate these Villa pups and wish their Villa futures to be bright ones, I hope there will be no more comments from wise sages on this site such as " Baker will never make the grade in the EPL" "Herd is just average" "Gabby is a waste of space" etc etc. These guys are the future of the club and as fans we have to be supportive as they make mistakes in their development and hopefully they learn from those mistakes. Four titles in five years shows that they have the talent to succeed. Fans must have the patience to wait for maturity to join that talent.

One lad I want to tell people to watch out for is Daniel Devine Been injured all season. But was U18 skipper the season before, not sure if its good or bad but looks and plays like Richard Dunne. Not sure how he will get back and improve on that level since this injury thats kept him out for most of the season. Josh Webb .. Right back, been with englands youths too from what I have been told. So might be some potential there. A couple of defenders as they dont get much attention. I try to watch as much of reserve/academy games as I can, across region.

Well done the Young Lions! Fantastic work by the staff as pointed out, half the reserves are now in the first team so it put extra pressure on the younger members of the reserve squad. What an achievement!

VOTH - he took his time to decide admittedly, but he then said he was interested in the role. The 6-0 was a tough defeat, but he at least had the balls to admit it was his fault, and he got it wrong (something the current incumbent is completely unable to do). Never judge anyone on 1 game alone - at least half a season bare minimum - even McNegative got that much from me! (Well, at least until i saw the team sheet and lineup for spurs away) grrrr gets me annoyed even now!

I have to take issue with those who knock KMac's time in charge. The football and team selection was refreshing. Neither the club, nor the fans gave him time or respect. (Rather like with Peter Crouch)
