McLeish On Weimann - Goals Talk

Alex McLeish has said that Andi Weimann is making it difficult for him to be left out of the side, and he's delighted with the form of the youngster.

Speaking to Sky Sports McLeish said of the youngster:

'Goals talk and it will be hard for me to leave Weimann out. It was a fantastic strike. We needed a bit of inspiration at that time and it was inspirational. It was a wonderful goal from a great young prospect. He's a good finisher and we've seen it again with that goal.'

forum

Speaking a bit more broadly about the game in general, he also added:

'If the players battle like they did today then they'll get some breaks. I couldn't fault any man at all for the effort. Sometimes the quality can be the only thing missing, but the effort was top drawer.'

The thing that gets me about McLeish is just by having a look at the last few seasons he's managed in terms of goals scored v games played. Just for the record - 2007/8 - 38 games 46 goals 2008/9 - 46 / 54 2009/10 - 38 / 38 2010/11 - 38 / 37 2011/12 - 32 / 35 There's a common theme running through all of these seasons and I'm afraid it's you Alex. It's dire. He simply does not know how to produce a side that is set up to attack. I wouldn't mind so much if he tried to recruit another coach who could maybe adapt the style a bit but he seems stuck in his ways. Alex wake up. I don't care whether you are ex Blues and despite the falling attendances it looks like you're going to get another season. But please just take a look at this record. You need to try and do something differently. If you keep on coaching in the same way you will fail and fail again. At least if you're going to be eventually booted out by the club then go down fighting.

RIF, gabby had a 1-1 in the 2nd half. when on form, he could score that goal with both legs tied up. playing in the wings have affected his play badly....thank mcleish

Can we please get it accross to the press somehow that we dont like the way we play under McLeish. If I hear another pundit say its bacause he is from Bham City I will go mad. I couldnt care less where he came from, if it was Barcelona and we were playing this rubbish anti football then it would be the same. Its great the kids are getting a game and we have some great potential but I want to see them allowed to play and not scared to play. Look at Weimanns reaction to not scoring a 2nd yday, he shouldnt be playing with that pressure. Time for gabby to step up and it is this time of the season he usually does

Chelt Villan: I want him to look disappointed that he didn't score. Gabby a goal scorer? Sorry he never has been prolific. He is an enigma, neither winger or a striker of quality, but too good to leave out. Not sure yet what Gabby is and I don't believe anyone else really knows either. Sorry but he ain't a captain either, would prefer Collins or Given or even Ireland, now there's a thought!

Makes you wonder why people want Gabby up front doesnt it? Because he misses chances which should extend our lead, as much as i like the guy his form has been awful at a time where we need him on top of his game!

I said last week on here that I'd love to see Ireland as captain. Again our best player yesterday as he was against Chelsea. I think making him captain would see him step up another level again. He seems to be relishing being the older head amongst all the younger players and enjoying the responsibility. He is a class above and what ever you say about Mcleish (those goals to games stats are frightening btw) he seems to have got something right with Ireland (whether it's more luck than judgement I guess we'll never know).

Gordon - I too want him to be disappointed but he looked far more than disappointed to me. My theory with Gabby is that he is what everyone used to call a fair weather player. When the sun comes out he is great and usually starts and ends the season well but for me doesnt seem to be the same player from mid October until April usually. I may be wrong, I may check the stats to see if its at all backed up! I cant believe no one has ever taught him movement, surely its the easiest skill to learn, if the balls in the last 3rd then you need to be in or around the box to score!! I hoped when Bent signed he would see how its done and learn from it but it just doesnt seem to happen. Surely an attacking manager could get the best out of him
